“Let me go, you perv!” Dhara snapped at the man.
The same man who answered the door.
The man at the sight of whom a tight shiver curled down her spine.
If only Dhara wasn’t blinded by so much rage, she would have noticed the only man standing in the room had the looks of a sexy sinner. His beautiful pair of hazel eyes brimmed with part boredom and part amusement.
If the annoyance hadn’t obfuscated her brain, she would have realized how her heart couldn’t stop pounding against her chest when he pinched those thick eyebrows and tipped a corner of his lips up.
God, that was so hot.
Even her subconscious couldn’t help but drool.
But that was all happening somewhere in the back of her mind, where her present reality seemed to suppress it all the way. Weird emotions churned in the pit of her stomach were being drowned by the nausea she felt while fretting about her sister.
With her wrist in his skin-tight grip, he sneered. “I’ve been nothing but a gentleman since you walked in.” The man bared his teeth, appearing even more precarious than the monsters underneath the beds.
The thick fog of anger dissolved a little when his lips hovered close to her own. There was no contact by any means. He still felt a mile away. Yet, something seemed to uncoil inside her. As if begging to be unleashed. Set free and take a flight. To make a wish and dive. To float and thrive.
Just when she thought she had everything under control and turned her head away, escaping his bewitching hazel eyes, she felt his hot breath battering against the crook of her neck.
This was the exact moment something unexplainable happened.
For a few pounding seconds, her heart slowed down, and her eyes widened out of pure fear. She had no clue what to expect, but something inside her bled nervousness for an unfamiliar reason. However, that seemed to be the least of her concerns when the anticipation turned to frustration. It tore her skin with sharp goosebumps.
A deep, guttural sound vibrated from the back of his throat—an approval of sorts—and surprisingly, it eased the tight, unyielding knot in the pit of her stomach.
Hot lava-like ferocity was summoned out of nowhere and, before she knew it, her brain thawed all the restraints. Earlier, a war of confused emotions was wreaking havoc inside her. But the second that dark and possessive sound dug through her chest and brushed her heart, a new desire awakened and had her soaked in places she desperately felt the need to be touched.
The man let out a deep growl when Dhara’s fingers tiptoed up his bare chest and sank into his large shoulder.
“Fuck,” he cursed into her neck, releasing her wrist and skating his enormous arms around her small waist.
He was so fucking huge. How the hell did she fail to notice that earlier? Or had he grown several fucking inches in the last ten seconds?
No. That was impossible. She refused to believe something so bizarre could actually happen.
Dhara felt his fingers keeping her closer and crushing her body against his. Normally, she would have fought such forced actions. But she wasn’t the same old Dhara anymore. Her eyes had darkened, and the world she had known since the time she was born had drifted and crumbled away. There was something new in the air. The presence of someone who mattered, whom she needed, burnt for.
She guzzled in a sharp breath when his other hand shot up to grasp her chin and turn her head so he could look into her eyes. The urgency in his actions told her how much he wanted to have this eye contact, and how much she needed it, too.
When their eyes finally met, time stilled, hearts stopped, and the atmosphere crackled with deafening electricity.
She couldn’t believe he was so beautiful. It hurt to even look at him without breaking into tears.
Not able to repress the raw impulse anymore, Dhara threw herself at him. Her frail arms clambered around his neck while her face collapsed into his neck. She breathed him in. Once, twice, thrice. A mix of spice, sweat, and nature washed her nostrils, soothing her spasming lungs.
“God, I’ve waited for you so long,” the man growled, lifting her up in his muscular arms as if she weighed no more than a feather and moving them on the bed.
Dhara gasped, pushing herself up on her elbows. Her brown eyes sparkled with the need to consume this man who felt like he owned her. Her breath turned ragged. Her eyes grew darker and much more dilated. Never had she felt something so lively, so trustworthy with anyone. His hazel eyes gleamed in the dark, defying everything she had known until now. However, a fresh voice inside her head kept whispering he meant no harm. That his broad arms and brawny chest were there to keep her safe. That if he didn’t claim her right then and there, she would lose her mind.
As if granting her unsaid wish, the beautiful man closed the distance between them and hovered over her trembling body. His eyes never flicked away from her own, never leaving her to shiver in the cold. He moved in between her legs while lowering his face until they were inches apart. This man was such a massive thing above her tiny body. She felt like she would die if he dropped even half of his weight. But what a sweet and beautiful end it would be, so much worth it.
Dhara drew her elbows and laid flat on the cool mattress, her palms taking their time to explore his chest, rocky pecs, and tight abdomen beneath her fingertips. He hissed at the touch, suppressing another growl working up his throat. Low-rise jeans hung around his hips, barely hiding that V bone that could stutter any poor heart, and made her whimper with the raw need to feel more of him. His effect on her was like a drug, the one she wished to stay always high on.
Sliding her fingers through his hair, which sent a shudder down her own body, Dhara guided his lips to hers.
“Dhara?”
However, the moment their mouths brushed with the lightest of strokes, a female voice pushed past the thick sensual air and broke the bubble Dhara seemed to have slipped into. Her eyes flew open and the second she realized a strange man was so close to her face, she flinched.
Her panic took root before her stomach recoiled. “What the—”
But the man seemed still in a haze when he pinned her thrashing hands above her head and pressed his lips to hers. And for that destructive second, her entire body froze and melted at the same time.
He kissed her.
Wildly.
Passionately.
Shamelessly.
Like she was the air he needed to stay alive.
Sparks flying.
For a second, Dhara’s head spun with the amount of heat he poured into her mouth. Her insides liquefied while pinpricks attacked at the back of her nape. She was so overwhelmed by everything he was rendering through that kiss—the zap of lust unfurling beneath her chest—her core pulsated and she squeezed her thighs to comfort the sweet ache.
The kiss diluted her thoughts and reservations, raising the wall of fog back around her mind, tugging her in, and keeping her still. Dhara almost gave in to his manipulations when the same voice came again.
“Oh my God, is that you, Dhara?” the voice held a quiver and plentiful accusation.
With something akin to superhuman strength, Dhara broke the kiss and pushed the man off her. Of course, he was still too strong, too heavy for her to move. When he didn’t budge and kept her pinned underneath him, her knee jerked upward in reflex and hit him with all the strength she could muster.
A painful grimace crossed his face long before the growl ripped out of his throat.
“Fuck!” he dropped to his side, dipping with the mattress, clutching his balls with one hand. “Shit!”
Dhara bolted off the bed and scurried away towards the door. The reality didn’t take too long to settle. And when she understood what had just happened, her chest narrowed and embarrassment flushed her skin pink.
Her eyes caught sight of a familiar figure at the door.
Nina.
Dhara ran up to her, engulfing her in her shaky arms. “God, you scared me to the death,” tears leaked through her eyes. “I thought I’d never see you again.”
“Shit!” someone cussed, “Alpha, are you OK?”
Lifting her gaze, Dhara peeked through her wet lashes.
It was only then that she realized her sister wasn’t alone. Another male stood a few feet behind her. Although he seemed to be agitated, fixated on something behind her back.
Or should she say, someone?
“Look, obviously, this was a massive misunderstanding. I was just looking for my sister. And now that she is here—safe and sound—let’s not make a big deal out of it.” After enduring the most embarrassing moment of her life, only Dhara knew the poise and courage it took to sit in front of the same man she had harassed not so long ago, as if her insides weren’t lit on fire. Having no clue what on earth got into her, she found it hard not to chew her lips out. All her life, Dhara had never felt this kind of surge and white electricity begging to be released. She had never felt this unexplainable attraction to anyone. Men had never been a priority in her life, not when she had a younger sister to take care of, not when their parents weren’t around to ease the weight of responsibilities off her shoulders, and not when the stress of next month’s rent and the food they needed on their table for healthy survival inhabited her mind. Her forehead and cheeks warmed with the awareness of his i
“Alright. Good. Try to get some sleep now. You’ve got a long day tomorrow. Oh, and do not open the door for anyone until it’s me. No. Not even for the milkman. I know you’re old enough, Nina. Just…just do what I say, please. OK? I don’t have the energy to fight you right now. Yeah. Fine. Good night. Bye.” Disconnecting the call, Dhara sighed deeply in her chest and allowed her head to fall against the back of the couch. She had never left Nina alone at home. And even though her little sister wasn’t actually all alone, her best friend Poppy had agreed to stay for the night. Dhara couldn’t force down the awful anxiety gnawing at the middle of her chest, making her troubled and nervous. “You know, I can still ask one of my men to keep a watch on your house. I promise they won’t engage until it’s absolutely necessary.” Dhara couldn’t help but scoff at his words. “One of your men? You make it sound like you’re the don of some crime syndicate.” “What if I am?” She could hear the grin in
“That’s right, a witch!”“A what?”“A witch!”“What WHAT?”“Do you want me to spell it out for you?”“No, what I want is for you to make a little more sense.”“Ooh, she is feisty!” Jasmine chipped with a broad grin. “I love her already.”“You have no idea,” Zayden groaned out of pure frustration, forcing the alcohol down his throat and wincing when the bitterness boiled through his chest. He once again turned around to fix that dumb girl with a pointed gaze. “Look. Either you do as she says, or keep up the act, and I’ll drag that sweet ass myself. Don’t force my hands. The choice is yours.” He threatened.Zayden would be lying if he said the girl his wolf was going crazy for hadn’t gotten into his nerves in the last few hours. How could someone be so annoying? Fuck him, he didn’t see that coming. Since the moment she walked into his hotel suite, all he could think about was to bend her over that damn couch and fuck her senseless. And not only because she had a perfect ass that was cre
Jasmine quickly led the mystery girl—who had finally returned to her senses—over to the couch and made her sit. Jasmine’s drunkenness had taken a backseat it seemed. She appeared intrigued and amused. Something Zayden could only roll his eyes at. “I bet you thought I was some crazy voodoo lady about to sacrifice you to some deity,” Jasmine chuckled with humour in her voice, reaching for her purse and returning with a green stone in her hand. “Won’t you?” that was what the mystery girl asked, a frown tugged at the corner of her full lips. Zayden took his seat back at the minibar counter and pushed the empty glass to the side, resting his elbow against the flat surface and watching them with anxious curiosity buzzing throughout his bones. He would have laughed at her conclusion of being sacrificed if he hadn’t been a witness to such gore himself. Even though it didn’t happen so frequently anymore, he knew the witches who practised dark magic still made a living out of it. Of course,
“It shouldn’t have happened,” Jasmine thrust her long, manicured fingers through those ebony locks and tugged hard to get this prickly and icky feeling out of her system. She felt like she was drowning in a pool of thick, red blood and no matter how much she tried to get some air in her lungs, couldn’t find her way up. It was all too messed up. And the entire array of events she saw so vividly in her head was messing her up even more.“What the fuck does that even mean?” Zayden snarled, his entire face contorted so precariously enraged that it fired a shiver down her spine. And that was saying something. Because usually, she couldn’t be bothered to give a fuck about how much she drove him crazy. It was a part of her personality. She thrived on getting on people’s nerves.“It means that you’re a jackass and you need to care about the feelings of others,” she snapped, her head still spinning, her heart ricocheting underneath her chest. She couldn’t push the resentment and frustration bo
During the entire ride, Dhara couldn’t stop thinking about what Jasmine had said.“All your life you’ve tucked yourself away from the crowd, with a fear that you’ll put your faith in the hands of the wrong people and they wouldn’t think twice before crushing it underneath their feet. It’s a constant fear that you live in. But you never let it show.”Constant fear.Never let it show.It was all too personal for someone to know so much about her. It felt wrong. On so many levels. It was as if someone barged into her privacy and left her bare. No one had ever said something like that to her. No one ever read her like an open book. And the thought alone pushed her to the edge. Perhaps that was the sole reason she couldn’t stay a second longer in that god-forbidden place. She felt exposed.Vulnerable.As if someone had broken down the walls built around her heart and now there was no way to protect herself. However, there was also a part of her that wasn’t convinced enough. Perhaps what Ja
The questions leaving her sister’s mouth stunned Dhara to the bones. Of course, Dhara wasn’t about to pretend about whom she was being questioned. It was obviously the man from the previous night. The one her sister had caught her within a super awkward position.Gosh, her cheeks warmed and probably turned as red as a tomato. How was she going to explain something she didn’t understand herself?Tensing the grip of the steering wheel, her knuckles turning pale, Dhara sucked in a shaky breath and gaped ahead. She knew how it would sound if she admitted she met the guy for the first time. She knew it would give Nina a wrong impression, the one her sister might use as an excuse before tossing herself into yet another trouble.“You remember that animal shelter I used to volunteer, right?” Dhara swallowed, aware of the two pairs of curiosities upon her. Pinpricks biting at the back of her nape.“Yeah? So what?”Dhara licked her dry lips. “Well, I know him from there. Nice guy. Helped with t
*An episode from the past life of Dhara and Zayden. There will be more such episodes.*------“What’s the rush, father? Are you so tired of your daughter that now you’re keen to bind me with simply any stranger on the streets?” Selene rebutted, the graceful maiden exhausted and hurt from being slandered by her own family and friends. Just because she hadn’t found her mate yet, didn’t mean she deserved to be treated as a traitor. It wasn’t her fault the moon goddess was taking so much time to match her with her soulmate. Was it?“You don’t understand, Selene!” Her father, the honourable Beta of the Silvermoon pack, growled, irritated and distorted by the outbursts of his only daughter who hadn’t found her mate yet. How shameful was it—did she even know? She had reached the age of 25 and was yet to be mated. How long could he keep her with himself? In the past few months, she had become the gossip of the town and their pack. Everyone looked down at her as if she was stained and curse
