LOGINZayden rejected his mate to marry the daughter of another powerful alpha in his past life. It was supposed to be a treaty of harmony, but it stabbed him in the back anyway. Now, a thousand years later, born again as the Alpha, he's given another chance to do things right this time. But there’s a twist. An intervention of the moon goddess herself. This time, she’s created the mate bond so strong that it would be easier for Zayden to end himself than reject the mate chosen for him. But he cannot accept a Healer as his mate either. In their world, powerful healers are rare to find. They are born out of the pack. As humans. Sterile. And mostly male. But Dhara is an exception. And she is impossible to be claimed.
View More“How can the moon goddess be so vicious?” Zayden thundered aloud, his body convulsing with the blind rage galloping through his bones. “How could she do this to us? How?”
Standing behind the furious man, Dhara trembled with all her being. Her heart raced amok in her chest, and her knees threatened to buckle. Her alpha’s rage exploded throughout the bare room and brought sickness to her soul. Seeing him hurting and on the brink of shattering made her feel horrible about herself and their unfortunate circumstances. But what could she really do? The moon goddess molded her destiny with her own capable hands, or so she was told, and who could ever go against the goddess?
However, despite all the red flags and anger visibly pouring out of Zayden, Dhara sucked in a deep breath and took one more step closer to where he stood. Despite the absence of physical contact between them, she could easily sense the rumble beneath his chest as if it were her own. He was burning up with anger, frustration, and heartache.
As soon as her palm went up to settle on his broad shoulder, to tell him he needed to calm down, that becoming furious at a goddess was going to get them nowhere, Zayden spun on his heels—surprising her—and pinned her to the wall next to the window.
His magnificent, soaring height hovered over her tiny frame.
She felt so small, yet alight with emotions that made no sense to her confused mind.
She gasped.
“Why?” he grumbled lowly this time, eroded under the heavyweight of his crushed hopes and expectations. His voice carried heart-crushing torment, something that stabbed through her heart and twisted it painfully.
His hot breath burned her from within, causing her to ache in places she didn’t even know existed.
“Because it’s for the greater good,” fighting the whimper that threatened to stumble out of her mouth, she whispered to him with just as much tenderness. Searching for his gaze and wanting nothing more than to know that he heard. Understood that she wasn’t any less miserable either. In her entire life, she had never felt something so strong, so magical, so captivating for anyone else. It was only him she wanted, yearned for. But her hands were tied, her destiny literally sculpted into stone.
“For the pack,” he surrendered, whispering those words into the crook of her neck.
Zayden couldn’t deny the soothing effects her delicate voice had on him. It calmed the heck out of him. Whenever she was close, all he craved was to run his tongue over her luscious skin, kiss those puckered lips until she was breathless, and sink his teeth into her flesh, marking her as his own.
But he couldn’t. No matter how much his wolf cried, complained, or growled. He couldn’t.
The moon goddess made sure of that. She made sure that the Alpha of the Bloodmoon pack suffered for his actions in the most excruciating manner.
Not able to claim his mate being her most cherished one.
He was grinning like an idiot. She knew he was.Dhara rolled her eyes as she tried to ignore Zayden’s annoyingly heavy presence in her home. He was hanging out in the drawing room with his other… people. She honestly didn’t know what they were to him. Were they friends? Co-workers? Relatives? Seeing how they always followed his demands like it were the end of the world, they looked more like his cult, and he their cult leader. The mere thought made a strange sensation pass through her spine.Anyway…She tried to focus on her sister instead, the only person who mattered to her the most. She sat straighter than she already was, shifting on the edge of the wooden chair in Nina’s room.“So, we need to talk,” she said to Nina, her sister, who had been sitting on the bed for what felt like forever, waiting desperately for what this way-too-early morning meeting was about.Nina was pretty sure the sun had not even risen yet. And yet, here th
Dhara didn’t know what was worse. To think what he was suggesting was insane, or that she was actually considering it.“Leave for your packhouse,” she repeated, nodding as if slowly—very slowly—processing it. Then she tipped her head to the side. “And where exactly is your packhouse?”“In the mountains, of course,” he said, as if that was the most normal thing to say, as if he was saying the weather was nice and the sky was blue and the roses were red.“What the hell?” She was pretty sure he hadn’t even realized what came out of his mouth. Because why else… why else would he say something so absurd and not feel even an inch of… well, shock, like she was feeling right now?“Mountains? Mountains?” She couldn’t hold back the surprise on her face—or in her voice. “Are you crazy or something? How can you even expect me to drop everything and go to some mountain with you? Forget the fact that we hardly know each other, but straight off to the mountains? What kind of crazy talk is that?”How
Dhara couldn’t sleep all night, but that was expected of her, considering the kind of week she had spent. God, she still couldn’t believe it. Now that she was back in her safe haven—her home—the realization of what had transpired in the last few days started to slam into her chest with a force that made her eyes go round with shock and her mouth drop open in disbelief.Fuck! Who could have thought, though? Who could have thought that creatures like werewolves and witches existed? That they lived among humans with no trace of suspicion at all. That the world was crammed with so much more than she or any normal person understood.Rising from the bed, Dhara quietly moved away and found herself standing in front of the dressing table. She saw herself wearing an extra-large t-shirt as a nightdress and noticed her dark hair piled up on top of her head, making her look even messier than she felt inside. But that was not what she was trying to look at. What she was trying to see was what made
Zayden glanced to his side and found Dhara lost in her thoughts. He knew she was lost because even though they had reached her apartment complex a few minutes ago, she hadn’t made a move. She kept staring out the window, her breathing steady, her body relaxed, but her mind? Her mind was at war with itself. He could tell. He could almost feel it in his bones. And dammit, he wished he could give her a bit of respite from all these overwhelming emotions and the conflict that she was clearly fighting with herself. But if there was anything the Alpha male had learned from his past experience, it was that one had to face their demons alone. He could assure her, support her, and give her a shoulder to worry on for all he wanted, but the truth was that no one knew her better than she knew herself. If there was anyone who could help her right now, it was her own wisdom and her strength. No one else. Quietly, he sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. A part of his was glad and overjo
