LOGINLyra's POV
The warmth was the first thing I noticed.
It wrapped around me like a soft blanket, so different from the old mattress that I had grown accustomed to sleeping on. For a brief moment, I wondered if I had died. Slowly, I forced my heavy eyelids open.
Instead of the dark, damp servant quarters, I found myself staring at an unfamiliar ceiling adorned with elegant carvings. Cream-colored curtains swayed gently beside a large window, allowing sunlight to spill into the room. The bed beneath me was softer than anything I had ever touched. My heart lurched and I immediately bolted upright, only for a sharp pain to shoot through my body.
"Ah..."A gasp escaped my lips as dizziness washed over me.
"Easy." The gentle voice startled me.
I turned my head to see an elderly man seated beside the bed. He wore the robes of a royal physician, while two maids stood quietly near the door. Panic gripped me, and the only thing that came to mind was to apologize.
"I-I'm sorry!" I blurted, scrambling off the bed despite the pain. "I didn't mean to sleep here. Please don't punish me!"
The moment my feet touched the floor, my knees gave out, but before I could collapse to the floor, the physician caught my arm.
"You shouldn't be standing." He said, concern laced in his voice.
"I-I'm sorry," I repeated, my voice trembling. Failing to pay heed to the concern in his voice, "Please... I'll leave."
The old man sighed. "No one is punishing you."
I froze."...What?"
He studied my face for a while and sighed, "You are here under Prince Kael's orders."
Prince... Kael? I widened my eyes in shock as realization hit me.
The image of the silver-eyed prince flashed through my mind, the way he had stopped the branding... the way he had spoken to me... the way he had caught me before I hit the floor, It all felt like a dream.
The way he had... caught me before I hit the floor....it all felt like a dream.
"His Highness ordered us to treat your injuries and make sure you recovered," the physician continued.
I stared at him in disbelief. "Why?""
"Why would a prince care about a slave?" I wondered.
It didn't make sense to me. I immediately freaked out what if he was after my body? That was impossible, and that thought made me calm down a bit. But then the realization hit me.
I couldn't place my hand on what could have been his reason for helping me. I gave up on my thoughts and decided to ask the physician.
"W-Why?" I whispered before I could stop myself.
The physician smiled faintly. "You'll have to ask His Highness that yourself."
My fingers tightened around the blanket, Nothing about this felt real. No one had ever shown me kindness without expecting something in return, not once since my family died. Before that, only my parents and my brother had ever shown me kindness." The door opened quietly, and one of the maids stepped inside carrying a tray filled with warm porridge, fresh bread, and a steaming cup of herbal tea. The delicious aroma filled the room. Without warning, my stomach growled loudly and my cheeks immediately heated up in crimson red.
"please eat." The maid said, smiling so kindly to me.
The smile on her face felt so strange to me, nobody has ever smiled at me... not the maids, slaves like me or even the guards.
"I... I can't." I whispered and immediately lowered my head.
"Why?" She asked....smile faded from her face,
"I haven't been given permission." I responded calmy.
The room immediately fell eerily silent. The physician exchanged a glance with the maids before looking back at me.
"You have Prince Kael's permission." He assured me.
Even then, I hesitated. I still felt very more scared of the werewolves especially the Lycans, being in the same room with them gave me this creepy feeling that l couldn't shake off my mind, years of punishment couldn't disappear overnight. My trembling hands refused to move but the physician gently pushed the tray a little closer.
"No one will punish you." He assured me... yet again.
I swallowed hard, and Slowly but cautiously reached out for the bread. I paused and Waited but nothing happened. No whipping,
No shouting or slapping across my face. With shaking fingers, I tore off a tiny piece and placed it into my mouth. The warm bread nearly brought tears to my eyes.
I hadn't realized how much I'd forgotten the taste of freshly baked bread. The memory of the single bite that had nearly cost me my life still haunted me, but this bread tasted different. It tasted like hope.
The physician watched quietly as I ate, making no attempt to rush me. When I finally finished, he nodded in satisfaction.
"Good,very good!" he praised me.
One of the maids stepped forward with a small bowl containing a strange green ointment. I immediately withdrew myself and coiled up in a corner burying my face in-between my legs, when I heard her gentle and sorting voice reach out to me.
"I need to treat the wounds on your back." She said gently.
Instinctively, I flinched away, not because I intentionally wants to but because I'm still very much afraid of everyone. The sudden nice treatment is scary to me, I really do not trust it.
"I'm sorry!" I cried.
The maid blinked."I wasn't going to hurt you."
"...Really?" I whispered.
She nodded. Reassuring me that I'm completely safe. Within me I knew I was safe at the moment but my inner consciousness is totally against it. She Carefully applied the cool ointment over the whip marks. I bit my lip, trying to suppress the pain I was feeling.
It stung for only a moment before a soothing sensation spread across my back.
No pain or cruelty from them, just... care. It felt so unfamiliar that I didn't know how to react. The physician finished checking my pulse before standing from where he was seated.
"Your body is extremely weak," he said.
"You must rest for several days."
Several days? I echoed.
I stared at him intensively, "Who... will do my work?"
The maids glanced at one another and smiled so sweetly at me. Their smiles only made me more suspicious. Kindness had always come with a price. I was still deeply buried into my thoughts when I heard a voice.
"You won't be working," one of them answered.
I shook my head frantically. "If I don't work... I'll be punished."
"Not anymore." The maid who applied ointment for me said.
I slowly looked up, "What?"
"Those were Prince Kael's orders." One of them said.
My breath caught, he had... protected me?but Why would he do that, I was nothing,Just another nameless human slave. Where was he since all this years? Why now? Why would a prince remember someone like me?
Before I could ask another question, three firm knocks echoed through the room.
Knock,Knock,Knock. The door opened and a royal guard stepped inside and bowed his head respectfully.
"The physician may leave." He said.
The old man nodded before gathering his things into his bags and quietly left the room.
The guard's eyes shifted toward me. "Lyra Avalon."
Hearing my own name from a royal guard made my heart pound, panicking immediately kicking inside me, I clenched my fist so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. I was feeling pain but didn't care about it.
"His Highness, Prince Kael, requests your presence." The guard announced.
My blood ran cold. "Why... did the prince want to see me?"
GAMMA SILAS RAVENSHADE POV The palace had been awake long before sunrise. Servants hurried through the grand hallways carrying freshly washed curtains, polished silver trays, and baskets overflowing with flowers. Knights marched across the courtyard in perfect formation while stable hands rushed to groom the royal horses until their coats gleamed beneath the morning sun. Today wasn't an ordinary day. The Alpha King and Beta King were returning home from their trip. I've noticed Prince Kael spending a lot of time with that human slave lately, and I still don't understand why.. I hope he doesn't fall out with the Alpha king. He was someone who doesn't interfere in anyone's business but he has gone as far as demoting the palace head maid for her. I hope he knows what he's doing. Every servant wore a nervous expression, moving like flashes across the palace halls. Every single being In Lunaris Kingdom feared Alpha Lucien. Every guard stood a little straighter than usual, None wanted
Lyra's POVI was on my way to answer Prince Kael's summons when I crossed paths with Ava. As she brushed past me, she leaned closer and whispered something that made my blood run cold. "You'd better watch your back."My heart pounded in my chest. I couldn't quite understand why she hated me so much, but I knew one thing—I had to stay as far away from her as possible. I couldn't possibly tell Prince Kael. I still didn't understand why he was suddenly being so kind to me. Lost in my thoughts, I failed to realize I had already arrived at the royal garden.I spotted Prince Kael seated on a bench in the garden and I immediately became terrified. I was taken aback....seeing how nice and gentle he was to me. It felt so strange receiving such a kind treatment from anyone, especially not from the wolf prince. I wanted to walk around the garden so badly. I've always loved flowers but I was too afraid to ask for permission to look around the garden. When I finally did, I couldn't have been more
Kael's POV"Impossible..."A strange aura lingered around Lyra. It was faint, almost impossible to detect, but I knew what I had felt. No human should possess such an aura... yet she did. Onyx was the first to sense it. And since then, he has fallen unusually silent. Moments ago, he had been eager to have her by our side, yet now he refused to utter another word. His strange behavior made me wonder if he knew something I didn't. Whatever this mysterious aura meant, I would uncover the truth with time. For now, I pushed the thought aside and focused on having Lyra here.Lyra still stood several feet away, her head bowed, her shoulders trembling slightly. She looked as though she was waiting to be punished rather than being spoken to."Are you still afraid of me?" I asked. She flinched at the sound of my voice but didn't answer."Look at me, Lyra." Her hands tightened around the hem of her dress. Then slowly, almost reluctantly, she raised her head. Her beautiful
Vespera's POVI couldn't bear to look anyone in the eye after the Prince demoted me to an ordinary maid. I cursed myself for being too careless, if only I had secretly carried out my punishment on that b*tch, I wouldn't have found myself in this mess. I never imagined Prince Kael, who never interfered in the affairs of slaves, would suddenly care about one. I was in this mess because of that witch, it's all her fault and she must pay for what she did to me. The slaves no longer respected me. They no longer feared me. And I couldn't do a thing to them because Prince Kael had guards watching my every move. I couldn't even lay a finger on that wretch without being caught...not now that she was under Prince Kael's protection. If only the Alpha King were here, none of this would have happened."I wasn't even given a decent room or proper mattress to sleep on. The Prince ordered that I be moved into Lyra's filthy little rat hole." I yelled angrily. There has to be someone who hates that dem

The silence in the hallway was suffocating. Every servant, guard, and maid kept their heads bowed, too frightened to breathe too loudly. The Head Maid remained on her knees, trembling violently."Your Highness... please forgive me," she sobbed. "I only wanted to maintain discipline," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. The excuse only fueled my anger.I looked down at her without a trace of sympathy, only utter disgust. How can a woman be so cruel? Even if she was a werewolf, she was still a woman. Yet she had the heart to torture another woman—a frail girl who could barely stand. Looking at that tiny body covered in bruises, I couldn't imagine what threat she could possibly pose. "Discipline?" I repeated. "You call starving a defenseless girl for three days discipline?" I said angrily. My fists clenched so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. A slave... punished over a single loaf of bread. No one with such a petite body should have been forced to endure such cruelty.
