Synopsis

Nocturne Ville, as beautiful as the mystery city might be, has always been a magnet for supernaturals in an alternate America. น้ำเสียงที่เต็มไปด้วยอำนาจดังขึ้นพร้อมสายตาที่กวาดมองร่างสูงใหญ่ในชุดธรรมดาตั้งแต่หัวจรดเท้า

"เจ้าค่ะคุณนาย นี่พี่เบิ้ม พี่ชายแท้ๆ ของหนูเอง"

คนเป็นน้องรีบแนะนำพี่ชายเต็มที่ แววตาของเธอเต็มไปด้วยความคาดหวัง เพราะคุณนายดูสนใจพี่ชายเธอกว่าคนอื่นๆ ที่เข้ามาสมัคร

"เคยขับแท็กซี่ แปลว่าต้องคุ้นทาง?"

บิวรีบสะกิดให้พี่ชายตอบ

คุณนายเอ่ยชื่อห้างสรรพสินค้าชื่อดัง

คนขับรถคนใหม่ผงกหัวรับเบาๆ พอเห็นว่าเบิ้มรับรู้แล้วคุณนายก็ไม่ได้พูดอะไรอีก ก่อนหันไปมองวิวข้างทางด้านนอก

บ่ายวันอาทิตย์ใจกลางกรุงเทพฯ รถติดหนัก คุณนายยกแขนขึ้นกอดอกด้วยความหงุดหงิด ขาเรียวยกขึ้นไขว้กันอีกครั้ง แต่ครั้งนี้มันไม่เหมือนเดิม

กระโปรงยาวพอดีกับเข่าเลิกขึ้นสูงจนเห็นขาอ่อน เบิ้มที่เหลือบมองเจ้านายผ่านกระจกหลังพอดีเห็นเข้าเต็มๆ ตา หนุ่มบ้านนอกที่เลิกกับเมียมาหลายปีไม่เคยเจอของขาวๆ แบบนี้มาก่อน ชวนให้ท่อนเนื้อในกางเกงราคาถูกแข็งขึ้นเป็นลำตามสัญชาติญาณดิบ

"นี่ นายเบิ้ม"

เสียงคุณนายเหมือนระฆังเรียกสติ เบิ้มรีบถอนสายตาจากความขาว ก่อนจะร้อนรนตอบเสียงดัง

"ขะ...ขอรับ! คุณนาย"

"ไม่ต้องเสียงดังก็ได้"

คุณนายเอ่ยดุไม่จริงจังนัก แต่ก็ทำเอาคนขับรถคนใหม่หน้าจ๋อยสนิทเพราะมีความผิดติดตัว ที่สำคัญไอ้ส่วนที่ตุงแน่นก็ยังไม่อ่อนตัวลง รู้สึกผิดแต่ก็บังคับร่างกายตัวเองไม่ได้

"ขอโทษขอรับคุณนาย"

"ช่างเถอะ ฉันแค่จะบอกว่าหลุดแยกนี้แล้วเลี้ยวขวานะ เพื่อนฉันเปลี่ยนที่นัดพอดี"

"ไปโรงแรม xxx หรือขอรับ?"

เบิ้มรีบร้องถาม จำได้ว่าเคยไปส่งผู้โดยสารที่นั่นตอนที่ยังขับแท็กซี่หลายครั้ง โรงแรมใหญ่โตหรูหราจนไม่กล้ามองนานๆ ทีเดียว

"ใช่ ดีจังที่เธอรู้ ฉันจะได้ไม่ต้องคอยบอกทาง อยากงีบสักหน่อยน่ะ รถคงจะติดอีกนาน"

"ขอรับ คุณนายพักสายตาได้เลย ถึงแล้วผมจะปลุก"

คุณนายยิ้มบางๆ รู้สึกถูกชะตาคนขับรถตั้งแต่วันแรก
