The storm above us wasn’t weather it was war.

Ash fell like snow, silent and choking. The sky had turned black with a halo of crimson light circling the fractured moon, and through the rent in the heavens, something stirred. The Gate of Ash and Bone was open.

We stood at its threshold Kael, Callen, Lyra, Rowan, Elara, and I staring into the place where the veil between life and death no longer held.

“You don’t have to do this,” Kael whispered, gripping my hand like he could anchor me to this world with his touch alone.

I looked up into his eyes. “I already did.”

Because the Gate hadn’t opened for nothing. It had opened for me.

The Prophetess had vanished into the chasm with a final scream, her Hollowed followers swallowed by the ritual fire. But what lingered in the space she left behind was worse than anything she had promised. The Veilborn were no longer whispers in the shadows they were stepping through, flesh re-forming from bone dust and regret.

Callen drew his blade, but the ste

The earth trembled with a steady rhythm, low and primal. Each thud of the distant drums echoed through the ground, vibrating in their bones, setting teeth on edge and instincts on fire. It was not merely sound, it was a summoning. A calling from something buried too deep and ancient to belong to the world of men or wolves. The pack gathered in a loose circle around the remnants of the Hollow Throne, their gazes fixed on the strange light still emanating from Aria. She stood barefoot on the broken stone, runes glowing along her arms and collarbone. Her long hair drifted around her as though caught in invisible wind. Her eyes, once soft and familiar, now held the weight of prophecy and power.Kael didn’t move.He could barely breathe.“Aria?” he whispered, stepping forward. “Is it really you?”She turned to him slowly, the energy haloing her body fading slightly but not disappearing. When she spoke, her voice was layered, one tone her own, the other not. “I’m still me… but not only me.”

The ground trembled beneath their feet as the throne split open, casting shards of obsidian across the ancient altar. The true Hollowed Queen stood tall in her heart, her presence commanding the sky to darken, the wind to bow, the very light to flee from her gaze. Her voice, when it echoed, wasn’t heard, it was felt. Deep in the bones. In the blood.Aria couldn’t breathe. The Queen’s eyes bottomless, starless locked with hers, and every instinct screamed for her to run. But her legs wouldn't obey. Her feet might as well have been rooted in stone. Elara and Rowan hung suspended in the air between them, wrapped in silver-blue threads like marionettes dangling from a cruel puppeteer.“You carry her light,” the Queen said, stepping forward. Each movement sent pulses through the ground, causing cracks to spread through the stone circle. “You carry her sacrifice.”“I’m not her,” Aria managed to say, though her voice came out thinner than she intended. “I’m not your vessel.”The Queen’s smil

The storm had passed, but the earth still trembled beneath their feet. Smoke curled from the remains of the shattered Bonefire. Crimson ash floated through the sky like embers from a dying star. Aria’s breath caught in her throat as the Prophetess’s final cry echoed in the air, swallowed by the rift that had split the battlefield apart.Kael knelt beside her, his arm wrapped protectively around Elara. Rowan stood motionless, his eyes fixed on the vanishing glow that marked the Prophetess’s demise. The rift had closed, but the scar it left behind pulsed faintly like a sleeping wound. No one spoke. The silence was a vacuum.Aria felt the tension coil inside her bones, not relief but dread. Something was missing.Something was wrong.“Where’s Callen?” Kael asked, scanning the fallen. Blood painted the field in streaks. Warriors from both sides lay still, some groaning, others beyond saving.“I saw him fall,” Aria murmured, forcing herself to her feet. Her limbs ached, and her belly tense

The moment the third toll of the temple bell echoed across the land, the wind died. Trees froze mid-sway. The stars blinked out. It was as though the world itself was holding its breath.Aria gripped Kael's arm to steady herself. The Thorn was silent within her, and that terrified her more than any shadow or Rift. It had become her compass, her sword, her shield. Without it, she felt exposed no, *unfinished.*"We need to move," she said, voice tight. "Whatever that temple is, it wasn't meant to be in this world. And now it is."Lyra nodded. "The scouts said it was floating?""Hovering," Callen confirmed, unrolling a hand-drawn map freshly marked with red ink. "Above the Black Hills. Just appeared out of nowhere, like someone dropped it from the stars. It's not natural.""No," Aria murmured, staring at the map. "It's not. It's a memory. A forgotten place the Dreamer pulled from beyond the Veil."Kael leaned over the table. "What would it gain from making this temple appear now?""It’s

The air roared in Aria’s ears as she plummeted, the shattered cliff face vanishing into swirling black above her. Gravity yanked her down toward the ancient heart of the Forgotten Vale, toward the pulsing shard of the Thorn buried in the roots of obsidian. Below her, the Scourged One descended like a spear of vengeance, his body tearing through shadows as if they fled from his very presence. She didn’t think so. Didn’t plan. There was no time. She twisted in the air, calling on the last remnants of her magic. A faint silver aura licked along her limbs as she threw a barrier under herself. It cracked as soon as it formed, barely slowing her descent, but just enoughAria slammed into the cavern floor, rolling over jagged stone, her breath stolen, ribs screaming. But she was alive. The Thorn was just ahead. Embedded in a knot of roots that seemed to writhe and resist the presence of anything unworthy. It pulsed with violet and gold light, like a heart cut from divinity. Shadows recoiled

The wind tore through the clearing where they had last seen their children, the beings their children had become. The howls of the Rift Hounds had faded, but the damage remained: scorched earth, shattered stone, and the lingering ache of magic twisted too far from natural law. Trees bent unnaturally, as if bowing to something older and crueler than time.Aria sat still in the center, her hair tangled, fingers clutching the spot where the twin-voiced figure had vanished. Her heart ached like it had been pierced anew this time not by loss, but by a choice she knew was coming. A choice that would break her no matter the outcome.Kael knelt beside her, resting a firm hand on her shoulder, grounding her.“They’ll come back,” he said again, but the conviction in his voice had dulled. The images the twins had shown them still burned behind his eyes cities unmade, skies devoured, wolves and humans reduced to drifting shadows.Callen paced the edge of the clearing, sword still in hand. “We can
