Chapter 16 Before heading out

Before heading out he stopped to fill up the gas tank, he didn’t want to have to stop on the way back. Going inside he pays for the gas and a couple of bottled water. “I’m sorry your trip was cut short,” he said, handing her one of the bottles.

“Sometimes I wish I could live a normal life with a regular father, one who doesn’t have so many enemies. I hate having so many armed guards walking in and out of the house and watching every move I make.”

“They’re there to protect you.”

“I know,” she said, leaning her head back on the headrest. “When I was younger I used to dream of my Prince Charming coming to rescue me. He would break down my door, scoop me up into his arms and carry me away to a new place where we would live happily ever after.”

“That’s a lovely dream,” he said, keeping his eyes on the road.

“Yes, but that’s all it is, just a dream. No man is going to want to marry a blind woman or have children with.”
