Chapter 17- the promise

When he got back he was told Anastasia was in the library so he went to see her. She was curled up on the sofa reading, he went over and sat next to her. When she dropped her book and went to kiss him he stopped her.

“Jake, what’s wrong?” she asked, feeling hurt that he was rejecting her.

“We have to be careful now that we’re back here, no one can know that something happened between us.”

“So are you saying it’s over between us?”

“I think it’s best we cool things, there are too many eyes around here, watching us. I also have to focus on my job, I can’t do that if I get anymore involved with you than I already have.” He felt terrible, knowing he was hurting her but did he really have any choice?
