Chapter 9-Forced marriage

"What was that all about there between you and Mr. Millbrook?" Jake asked when they got to her bedroom.

She opened the door and walked in, he followed her inside. "It was nothing," she said, going over to the bed and sitting down and lowering her head.

He went over and grabbed her arms when he saw the red mark on her wrist. "It didn't look like anything to me and he left a mark on you, I should go down and tell your father that he got rough with you."

"It won't do any good, he's my father's friend," she said.

He sat down beside her. "Tell me what you two were fighting about."

She leaned back on her hands. "I was just informed that my dear old dad had informed Mr. Millbrook that I would marry him. He said I have no choice and that once we are married I am to behave and be a proper wife. I'd rather die than marry him."
