The first thing I felt when I woke up wasn’t the stiffness in my neck or the aching weight in my back from sleeping in the same position all night.

It was her.

Still lying there.

Still asleep.

Emily hadn’t moved.

I blinked slowly, chest tightening as I shifted just enough to glance down at her. She was curled into me, her breath ghosting soft and even against my hoodie. Her skin wasn’t as cold as it had been last night. Her forehead was still warm, but not burning.

That was something.
