LOGINSTERLY'S POV
The ink on the marriage certificate hadn't dried, yet the weight on my chest felt decades old.
This had never been my plan. I had always wanted to wait.
When my parents discussed my marriage with me, explaining to me how frustrating the marriage alliances they received from various families, intending to match their children with me was, and made me promise them to bring home a partner, I had thought things would go awry.
I intensified my search, hoping to find Nate as soon as possible, but things never worked the way I wanted. Even with my power and status, Nate was still nowhere to be found.
It had been six years since he left... and he never returned.
Nate was a thorn in my heart, pricking and persistent. I could never let go of him.
Six years of yearning had turned hope into a ritual until fate played a cruel joke and sent me a man that looked like him... Jared.
He had stood by the roadside, eyes fixed on the road, and sweat damped his body in an uncomfortable glow. I'd stopped my car beside him with a racing heart, silently praying he would be Nate. But this hope crashed ruthlessly when I got closer and saw him clearer.
Jared was younger. Nate wouldn't be so young anymore. And Jared was fairer.
He looked too delicate.
Nate was never like that...
I felt my heart broke in a way that made me shiver, but in this sea of darkness, was a bit of light that kept me barely composed___ The boy looked almost identical to Nate!
Remembering how my parents wanted me to get married, I immediately considered hiring Jared for the role, but I was cautious. Jared might look innocent and young, but what if he was only pretending?
I decided to silently watch him from behind the scenes. But he was bolder than I ever expected.
He approached me first. That wasn't too surprising until I found myself inclined to play along with him.
His gaze. His smile. His tender words, and his hot touch. They reminded me of the pleasure I used to own. Jared reignited a feeling I thought I'd buried too deep, and before I knew it, I found myself lost too deep into the night.
I let out a deep breath and looked at the silent boy beside me. His gaze was lowered, the wedding certificate held tightly within his thin fingers.
He looked dazed. Seemingly unable to comprehend how fast things went.
I never intended to confuse him either. I just had no choice___
To continue waiting for Nate without arousing people's suspicion, I needed a substitute, and Jared perfectly fit that role...
My jaw tightened. I drove silently down the lane to the new apartment I recently got. Mainly for the purpose of using it as our 'matrimonial home.'
Right then, my phone rang.
The sound snapped me out of my thoughts, and Jared also stirred.
His dark green eyes held mine for a moment, and he looked away. Lips pursed slightly.
My eyes lowered, settling on my phone, and my eyes twitched when I saw the caller... Dad.
I hesitated for seconds before answering the call. "Dad." I called.
"Sterly, where are you? Drake told me you got married today!" My dad's deep and excited voice boomed through the phone's speaker. He always sounded too happy... like a man who'd never taste the sweetness of silence.
My brows creased, and annoyance brewed in my chest. "That damn Drake." I cursed calmly.
"Stinky boy. He's your older brother." My dad warned.
I rolled my eyes. "Like he ever acted like one." I mumbled.
My dad chuckled. A sound came through the phone, and without doubt, I knew it was my mother demanding the phone from him.
"Wait, you can call him." I heard my father say. Seemingly to my mother. "Son, are you coming over?" He asked warmly. The deceit in his tone was obvious.
It was funny the way he often treated me like I was ten. Like he could cajole me to do things.
I stopped being a kid a long time ago... but sadly, no one ever told my dad this. No, no one ever told my family this.
"I'm not." I firmly replied and raised a finger, intending to end the call.
He seemed to have expected my reaction, "Wait!" He shouted. "You really won't come? We need to see your partner!" His voice grew agitated.
My lips curled. "No." I replied and ended the call.
I glanced at Jared, whose eyes lingered on my phone's screen with a puzzled expression on his face. Awkwardness washed over me.
He must have thought I was childish... right?
"That's my dad." I decided to explain. "He's always like this. Don't mind him." I added.
Jared raised his eyes, and his lips parted: "You ended the call on your dad..." His expression screamed: wrong!
My lips twitched. "He doesn't mind." I mumbled. I had no other way to explain, and considering how socially awkward I was, I knew explaining would only complicate things.
"Oh." I heard him exclaim.
The car plunged into silence.
I drove without a glance to the side, and by the time we got home, my mind had settled.
However, my home wasn't.
Standing at the gate were my mum and dad... with Drake and Linda wagging their non-existent tails behind them as they stared at my car with eagle eyes.
For the second time in a few hours, I wished the car would vanish with me in it.
JAREDI glanced at Sterly, who nodded reassuringly at me. The first few pages of the diary were filled with Kane's encounters after we separated. He documented his daily life when he fell into depression and how he even felt bad for his omega partner. I skipped all those and ignored the love confessions in this book. I was getting impatient. I didn't come all this way to read Kane's love confessions. What exactly did his mother mean when she talked about his diary? She couldn't have wanted me to realize her son's heart, right? Even after she knew I was married...I raised my head to look at her, and seeing the patient expression on her face, I decided to continue opening the pages. It didn't seem to be what I thought. She wouldn't call me to the funeral just to read love letters. Maybe I was being rude. But I honestly saw no reason to keep my emotions in check after everyt
JAREDA week passed by, and it was finally Kane's burial day. However, I hadn't been able to say a word to Sterly about it. The days had been peaceful, and my life with him had been filled with nothing but sweetness. I felt reluctant to break that by telling him about what Kane's mother said. I sat in bed, wrapped in a bathrobe as I stared at my phone's screen. It was past 8 in the morning, and the burial was scheduled to begin by 10. Two hours more. If I wanted to know the things Kane kept secret from me before his death, I only had two hours more to let Sterly know. But I couldn't help but wonder if it would be worth it. Whatever Kane left behind in his diary, was it worth my effort?I rubbed my brows lazily as I sighed. The bathroom door opened, revealing Sterly with a towel wrapped around his narrow waist. He swept his wet hair to the back as he glanced at me. "Is something wrong?" He asked casually. My heart skipped a beat. I dropped my phone and flashed a smile at h
JAREDWe arrived at the family house, and Sterly took my hand as we leisurely walked in. We had only gotten to the entrance of the inner area when voices entered my ears. "Mum, don't keep that there. Wait for me.""Wait, Linda, what are you doing?""You told me brother Sterly and brother Jared like to eat cake." The voice was bubbly and filled with vigor. "No. Sterly doesn't eat this." Another voice rang. It was feminine but filled with coldness and a hint of exhaustion. "Oh. Mum, let's prepare brother Sterly's snack then." My brows creased. The house was much livelier with the owner's voice around. Without a doubt, I knew she was the fiancée who was to be introduced today. Sterly and I exchanged glances, and he slowly shook his head. "I guess this place has just become even more tiring." He said helplessly. I covered my mouth and giggled. Sterly opened the door, and we stepped in. The eyes of everyone inside the house immediately fell on us. There was silence for a mo
JAREDThe next day came, and Sterly woke up early to arrange our things. We hadn't been able to tell Stephen and Cindy about our schedule, which made it impossible to go with them. So, while Sterly was preparing our things, I was also arranging questions for Cindy and Stephen. I would give them an ultimatum and ensure they answered all the questions. When Sterly was done, I was also done with over fifty questions and knew it was enough for the day. We would return early tomorrow so we could all read together. Sterly lifted me up from the bed and carried me toward the bathroom. He removed the bathrobe, leaving behind an unclothed body standing before a mirror. My eyes settled on my reflection inside the mirror, and my eyes drifted to my belly, which wasn't any different from when I wasn't pregnant. I tilted my head to look at Sterly, who was adding soap to the water inside the bathtub. "When will I have a baby bump?" I asked with a curious light in my eyes. Probably because
JARED Stephen followed his gaze to his belly, and his eyes turned cold. "Do you think I'm pregnant?" He asked coldly. Ryan shivered. He immediately stood up and walked a few feet away from Stephen. "He's not. He's not pregnant." Stephen rolled his eyes. "He dare not impregnate me." He said lowly. Cindy and I exchanged a glance, and we both laughed. Indeed, the agreement between the two of them was that they wouldn't have another baby for a few years. Stephen needed to build his career, and Ryan was in full support. Perhaps that might be what Sterly and I would do in the future. After our first child, we would wait a few years before having another. Moreover, Jarelle wasn't even a year old yet. After a few seconds of banter, we walked out of the house to take a stroll around the compound. Everyone played and talked. Even Sterly contributed whenever it had to do with something impactful. We played around until 8 in the evening before we returned to the house to sleep for
JAREDGetting downstairs, we saw Sterly and Ryan setting the table. Ryan was chatting vibrantly while the others retained a cool disposition. Nodding whenever possible. But no one found it strange as everyone was used to Sterly being cold. Well, the only exception was whenever he was with me. His movement paused as he raised his head, and his gaze locked with mine. The coldness in his eyes melted, revealing a warmth that stirred the soul, and he wiped his hand as he walked over. "Baby." He called. A smile appeared on my face. I approached and hugged his waist. "What's up?""Are you good?" Sterly nodded. He planted a gentle kiss on my nose and tousled my hair. "I'm good.""Come with me." He said and took my hand, leading me toward the kitchen. I tilted my brows, feeling a bit confused. Sterly seemed to want to tell me something. We went into the kitchen, and he calmly cleaned the table. "Linda called." He said. "Oh." Linda always called him. Well, Drake and father include
JARED'S POV I tried to stand only to realize my legs were too weak even under the comfort of Sterly's pheromone. I blinked, let out a deep breath, and raised my head to look at Sterly. "Can you take me away from here, please?" I pleaded. I wasn't oblivious enough to think I would continue being
JARED'S POV The banquet continued, but fortunately, no one disturbed us again. Sterly still had his cup in hand, not having changed it since we came in while I clutched my hand around the empty cup in my hand, lips pursed as I waited for him to notice it. I felt too embarrassed to call him and l
STEPHEN'S POVI grinned as I watched the beautiful Mr Sterly leave the coffee shop. I turned my attention to Jared and nudged her shoulder. "Don't you think he's so awesome?" I asked, winking. Jared's cheeks reddened, but his eyes held indignation. "What do you think? Will I fall for someone simp
JARED'S POV I rested my back against the cold wall. My breathing became ragged, and my legs felt like they weighed a ton. Sweat dripped out of my body without stopping, and I gasped softly. My pheromones had completely gone out of control. Each breath contained the floral scent, and I really did
