CHAPTER 1
Atlanta, Georgia
~Ariella~
"If you move your head, you will die, so you better stand still, woman," Emily said, as Luis stood next to her without saying anything. I am not sure how a wife and lover can live together.
Examinations were quickly approaching, and I had not yet paid my outstanding examination fees. As a law student, things have been difficult, but holding onto the hope of one day making my father proud has kept me going. I know things would not have progressed this far if my mother, the only person who truly provided me with everything I needed, was still alive. A brave and supportive woman who had always fueled my desire to become a top lawyer left when I did not expect her to, and now I am stuck in a mess I do not know how to get out of.
I took on a serving job for the night because I knew the money I would make would be more than enough to pay for my exam and buy a gift for my father's birthday. I had never served before but was eager to do so because I did not have any other option, but when the worst happened, all hell broke loose. I was kidnapped and awoke to confront my worst nightmare in person. I was terrified and had already entered the lion's den; we all know what the Delucas are capable of, not to mention their heir Luis, the last man anyone in Atlanta would want to mess with. When I saw him for the first time at the party, I knew it was over. I was still wondering why he had not killed me yet.
I was in a dark room for about a week, and only delicious meals were brought to me; I had no idea how I was going to survive because death was the only fate that those who messed with them faced. I heard footsteps approaching, and I realized I had failed my parents. When the door opened, Luis Deluca walked in; I still did not dare to look up, so I remained looking down. "Sign these damn papers," he said, and I looked up in alarm.
I could tell which papers I was signing just by looking at the color. ‘Marriage?’ When a drop of blood landed on the paper, I said at the back of my head, unsure whether to sign.
"Look here, young lady, it is either you sign that paper and go get tortured out there, or you stay and let me send you back to your family, OK, in a body bag," Luis said, his voice commanding and fierce.
"No—I will sign, sir," I responded, signing the paperwork.
"Please keep that lame excuse to yourself; it must have been your plan all along to take my—”
"Emily, you, of all people, should know that we do not kill our assets," Luis responded to the woman.
“Seriously, you're taking her as a wife?”
"Come on, you know that is not what I want her to be. But since she is valuable I am sure Enrico will love this news when it reaches him," he said, and I could not believe it.
I looked up and was about to say something when I realized I could not because of the blood on his face, which appeared to be the result of a violent fight. "Hello, little Miss, I hope you are ready for what is coming your way; nobody except me rules the devil's heart, so you might as well cooperate or have your days cut short as a result of messing with me," Emily said, roughly freeing my chin.
“Oh," I said softly, as Emily had not yet left my room. I would never have heard of her, but the way Luis spoke to her suggested they had a deeper connection. I am not even sure how I became an asset to Luis. "I will send the maids to bring you some clothes, but do not be overconfident because Luis is mine," Emily said before walking out.
I freed my hands and wondered, if she could hear herself, what would I want to do with a murderer like him anyway? When I get out of this mess, she will undoubtedly be the first person I get locked up. I was deep in thought when a woman dressed in white approached me and bowed. ‘Goodness, what is happening here?’ I questioned myself before they both greeted me and invited me to follow them to my room.
I was going to ask them a lot of questions, but I could not because I needed to process everything that was happening. How on earth did I get a room in the Deluca mansion? "Madam, this is your room. Please let us know if you want us to make any changes," one of the women said, placing some clothes on the bed.
“No, it's OK you may leave," I said.
They left, and I took a deep breath before deciding how I was going to get myself out of this mess. I had not taken a shower in days, so I went for one right away, and it was extremely comforting. I got out and went to dress up when I noticed Luis sitting on the bed. "Impressive; I did not know lawyers could look this good," he said, looking me over from head to toe.
“Why did you marry me?" I asked in a serious tone.
"Ms. Johnson, please look around before saying anything you might regret later, okay," he warned.
“Look Mr.Deluca I'd advise you to let me go before —"
"Before what? Hmm, I admire your courage but keep in mind that this is not a courtroom. OK, get ready. Your father is waiting for you downstairs, and I believe you do not want him to find out about our marriage being forced, given his health," he said as he walked out.
"What!” I exclaimed shocked that my Dad was here.
CHAPTER 125Ariella Annie left and I was alone. I neatly packed my room and was about to go take a shower when I heard a knock on my door. I didn't have to ask who it was or anything. I knew it was him— Luis.“Come in," I said before turning around.“Are you free?" he asked, trying to sound neutral but I could feel the pain in his tone.“Yeah. Do you want to talk about something?" I asked."I'm sorry…I'm sorry for keeping you in the dark Ariella. I thought pretending to love Emily would make her lead me to Neil but it didn't work,” he said when I lifted my brows."Pretending? Luis, you chose her child over mine,” I said."Yes, I did, but the truth is now out, and I don't want to keep you in the dark anymore. I meant it when I said that I loved you, Ariella,” he started, and I could feel myself getting nervous.“Luis, please, you're not fine. Try getting some rest," I suggested, trying to stop him from continuing, but he didn't want to.“I've to say this Ariella. I know I've been a fo
CHAPTER 124Ariella Emma had gone back to her place while I was busy preparing my room when Emily walked in with a disgusted face. It was as if she were looking at someone who was rotting or something, but I wasn't in the mood for her drama. I'd already made it clear that I wasn't going to be nice if she tried me. “Well, look at the runaway girl, I knew you couldn't live without Luis' wealth, Ariella. You indeed are just the gold digger I thought you were," she smiled, probably expecting that to hurt me but I was mentally prepared. “I actually don't mind digging for gold, especially when it's from my husband's pocket. But wait aren't you the one carrying a married man's child?" I asked when embarrassment covered her entire face. “Don't push it Ariella you're nothing compared to me OK I'll—”"Shhhh Emily. I don't have enough joules to waste on an attention-seeking bitch like you. Stay the hell away from my room because I'm nothing like you OK,” I said before pointing to the door.
CHAPTER 123Enrico I've been waiting for Marcus for about 4 hours now but he hasn't gotten here yet. It was as if something more important than tonight's meeting was taking up his time. I asked my man to contact him but his phone wasn't going through. “I think Neil is here," Monica rushed to tell me before I made my way outside to welcome him.Gosh, he really seemed like the devil himself. I could tell that I had a lot to learn. Darkness covered the entire atmosphere, and I could tell Lucia and Monica were both uncomfortable, just like me.“Lucia, you seemed like someone with all the potential to get back into Luis's life,” Neil said when I looked at her in shock. "You two know each other?” I asked, looking confused. “Yes and her return was no coincidence. I wanted her back into Luis's life so I could destroy him from the inside but she failed so badly," Neil replied, his voice deep yet powerful.“And you didn't bother to tell me?" I looked at Lucia.“Some things aren't meant to b
CHAPTER 122Luis My heart is the biggest traitor I've ever had to deal with in this lifetime. The moment I heard Ariella's voice from that backseat, it started beating fast, and I could feel myself wanting to pull her into a hug. When the cafe closed, I was so upset because Ariella didn't show up, but after finding her in my car, I was shocked. I had so many questions to ask but the safety of our children was a priority. We drove to a different location and had a little confrontation before I noticed a red mark on the window. My heart felt out of place as I asked Ariella to bend her head.Somebody was about to shoot at us. I quickly drove away. There's no way I was going to let Ariella go back to her apartment. She was stubborn about going back to the mansion but we had to do all that for the children's safety. When I found her in Hope's room I just couldn't help but imagine what it would have been like if she had taken my little girl with her— Maybe she would have been alive.Ariel
CHAPTER 121Ariella We got to the mansion and I was about to jump out of the car when Luis asked me to wait. He walked to my side of the car and opened the door. I wasn't happy at all. This was a place I wanted to be far away from but somehow I keep bouncing back.“I'll meet you inside," he said, going to talk to his men.I looked at the gate that was closed and then shook my head before going into the mansion. I had slippers on so my steps weren't that loud.“I've been telling you to stop the act and get out of here already," I heard someone whisper from the living room.“I know but one of us needs to stay. You know the mission is close to being finished. Now all we need to do is get rid of Emma," I heard Kendy responding.I knew her voice well enough to recognize it. I moved a little closer just to see who she was talking to when Emily was about to walk out, but froze looking at me.“You?" she said, looking at Kend, who was wondering whom she was talking to before coming to take
CHAPTER 120Ariella I have a lot of explaining to do. I was certain that I would be far from Luis and all the drama in Atlanta but guilt just couldn't let me wait for the plane to take off.I changed my mind and got off before it could take off. Since Luis was going to look for me I didn't want to be in contact with Emma. But after what happened to Hope I just didn't know how to react anymore. That child was the most beautiful thing that ever happened to me in that mansion. Even though Luis and I weren't her biological parents, the chemistry she made us build was more than that of family.I just don't know why one would target an innocent child to get back at someone. I knew Neil was behind everything. That day, after I left the airport, I was in a cab with one of his men. Since I was in the back seat with a veil on, he didn't recognize me, so he kept telling someone over the phone about my and Luis' divorce. The person on the other end was telling him how badly Neil wanted me take
