CHAPTER 4

Shantelle washed the dishes and cleaned the house after she had gotten back from school. School had been boring because she wasn't always paying attention. She didn't quite even understand why she's been feeling really strange these past few days.

She cooked dinner and set her sister's dinner. She took hers to her room and ate.

When she was done, she did her project works and watch a soap opera in her laptop.

Soon later, she was bored and tired of waiting for her sister to return, she finally fell asleep on the couch in the sitting room.

"What the hell!" Lia yelled crazily while Nick laughed. "Why would you say such a thing?" She added, clearly shocked.

She didn't even know how she's gonna react. She was expecting him to say such words. How will her best friend even take that shocking confession.

"What? Why are you reacting as if I told the biggest lie in history. I just helped you out okay?" Nick didn't see anything wrong in what he said, in fact, he found it amusing. "Really? Of course you told the biggest lie in history. You should even be awarded." She scoffed and hit his arm playfully.

"Wait, did you just hit your boss?" He asked playfully. "Oh! Sorry boss." She said with sarcasm. Nick chuckled lightly.

"You find this amusing don't you?" She asked with a pout. Nick hummed and winked at her, "of course I do."

"You're not helping matters. Clara's gonna bombard me with questions when she calls or when she sees me at work tomorrow. What am I supposed to tell her?" Lia grumbled and sighed.

"Simply go with the flow. Just agree to what I said and you'll thank me later." He replied with a smile playing on his lips. "No fucking way am I gonna doing that! It's only gonna complicate things more." Lia disagreed. "Then, suit yourself."

"But you know we didn't have sex right? I didn't even give you a blow job. We only kissed." Lia huffed, her face going all red from embarrassment. Nick only shook his head and laugh. "You're so annoying." She mumbled and backed him, faking vexed. She wrote invisible things on the window while Nick just drove and hummed nothing.

*********

"Thank you very much boss, the ride was great." Lia smiled as her boss stopped in front of her apartment. "Okay. See you tomorrow and good night." Nick smiled as he stared intently at her. "Bye. Goodnight." Lia said and opened the door. She alighted from the car and waved at him while he waved back.

Nick waited till he was sure Lia had entered the house. He smiled as he looked at the house one more time before zooming off.

His phone started ringing and when he checked the caller ID, it was Alice. He rolled his eyes and kept his phone back. The phone continued ringing and ringing, and it was starting to annoy him.

He turned off his phone and drove faster into the night. He wasn't ready for any of her tantrums tonight.

********

Lia got inside her house. She turned on the light and wore pulled her shoes then wore her slippers. She saw her sister, Shantelle sleeping soundly on the couch with her body folded up.

She sighed and ruffled her sister's hair playfully. Even in her sleep, she was still very pretty. She walked to her room and pulled off her clothes. She had her bath and wore her nightwear and went to the dinning room. A sweet aroma welcomed her.

"Such a considerate sister." She smiled and took a quick glance at her sister.

She sat down on the chair and uncovered the food. It was spaghetti and meatballs. It smelled nice and she couldn't wait to dig in. She said a short prayer and began eating.

Few minutes later, she was done eating. She drank a glass of water and then took her dishes to the kitchen. Since there was no plate in the sink, she washed hers. She wiped her hands and left the kitchen.

She walked back to the sitting room and turned off the plasma TV. She tapped Shantelle lightly on her shoulder.

Shantelle being a light sleeper, woke up with two taps. "Huh? Lia?" She rubbed her sleepy eyes and yawned lightly.

"Yeah, it's me." Lia smiled and helped her get up from the couch. "You got home late. I was up waiting for you, I couldn't wait any longer so I slept off." Shantelle said, her eyes were clear and she could see her sister clearly.

"I'm sorry, had a lot of work to do at the office." Lia smiled and patted her sister's shoulder. "Okay, hope you aren't very tired stressed out? Have you had dinner yet? I made spaghetti and meatballs." Shantelle said all at once – Lia was just smiling all through. "My day was stressful but I'm better now. And I did eat your spaghetti and meatballs, it was delicious. Thank you sis." Lia smiled.

"Okay. I'm still feeling sleepy, let's go to bed." Shantelle yawned. "Yeah," Lia nodded and they both started for their various rooms.

"Goodnight Shan."

"Goodnight Lia." They both said goodnight to each other as they entered their respective rooms which were beside each other.

******

Grandma Nadia and Alice waited impatiently for Nick to come back. Grandma Nick got tired and finally went to bed. They had both decided to go to Nick's penthouse to wait for him – it was also like surprise visit.

Alice gave the idea because she thought that Nick might give an excuse not to visit grandma Nadia so, instead they paid him a visit.

Alice has the code for the door so it wasn't a problem getting inside the house. Alice was still up and she was very upset that Nick was still out late and grandma Nadia was already asleep.

But then again she thought, there's always a tomorrow. Sleep had eluded her as she continued to wait for Nick who was yet to arrive. She paced to and fro restlessly.

"Why did hell is he taking long? He didn't even take my calls." She grumbled.

***

Nick smiled all the way home. He was smiling sheepishly like one that has been given a smiling pills. He looked really enthused. He can't wait to see Lia the next day.

He got home and he was surprised to see Alice's car parked at the parking lots.

He parked his car, took his briefcase and suit jacket and alighted from the car. He locked his car and walked into his penthouse.

Just as he got in, he saw Alice already waiting impatiently for him at the door.

"What happened Nick? You didn't take my calls and you switched off your phone." She ranted with her hands on her waist, demandingly.

"Drama queen." Nick scoffed and brushed passed her.

"Where are you going Nick? We need to talk." She yelled at him. "Goodnight Alice." Nick waved at her tiredly and took the stairs to his room.

"Ah!" Alice yelled angrily and stomped her way to the stairs. She walked to her room and slammed the door shut. She has her own room in his penthouse while grandma had hers too and there was an extra room for visitors – the guest room.

Nick pulled of his clothes and got under the shower. As the cold water cascaded down his naked self, he thought of Lia – he found himself kissing her and making out with her in the bathroom and under the shower in his head. Just with that thought, he had a hard on. He groaned and splashed water on his face.

He quickly had his bath and got out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist. His hair was dripping wet down to his broad chest.

He wore his pyjamas and got into the bed. He had this urge to call Lia as he held his phone but he resisted. He smiled and laid on the bed. His stomach grumbled noisily. "Ah! So hungry!" He murmured and got up from the bed.

He made his way to the kitchen.

********

The next morning, Shantelle and Lia got ready for school and office respectively. Lia made breakfast and packaged Shantelle's lunch for her. They were both ready and they left the house together.

Shantelle got to school and as the quiet teenager she is, she walked to her class. She was a popular girl at school for being very intelligent and pretty. She's more reserved to herself after she got betrayed by her friend. She doesn't need a friend in her life – just herself.

******

"Oh my God!" Nick yelled in shock as he stared at his grandma who was sitting beside him on his bed. He didn't know she was around.

"You've seen a ghost right?" Grandma Nadia chuckled lightly and hit his head playfully. "I'm so surprised to see you grandma. I didn't expect to see you. When did you arrive?" Nick smiled and hugged her lightly.

"Yesterday evening. You got back from work late yesterday, I guess." She said.

"Yeah." He nodded his head. "Did Alice perhaps bring you here?" He asked with a creased eyebrow.

Grandma Nadia just nodded her head.

"Hurry up and come downstairs. We need to talk." She stated and started towards the door. She walked out of his room and locked the door behind her.

Nick grumbled noisily and hit his legs on the bed with his pillow in his face. "Goodness!" He murmured.

**

"Alice told me everything that happened at your office yesterday between herself and your secretary." Grandma Nadia started, as her, Nick and Alice sat on the couch.

"Well...she started it first." Nick defended. "Not another word from you Nick." His grandma admonished him calmly.

"Alice is your fiancee and you should always take sides with her and protect her. Soon, you two would be married. So, that's why I came to a conclusion..." Grandma Nadia said and paused. She darted her eyes from Nick and then to Alice.

Alice felt glad. Whatever grandma Nadia is gonna say is gonna be in her favour.

"You have to fire your secretary." Grandma Nadia finally broke the bombshell.

"What!" Nick screamed.
