"Can I spend the night, please?"
His brows raised.
"I mean…my rent expired, my stuff is outside and I have nowhere to go. If you could just let me stay for a few days…or I'll be gone by tomorrow."
He squinted and stared at me with a hard expression. Silence followed. The rain was still hammering outside and I was dripping water onto his doorstep.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have bothered you." I turned to leave.
"Just for tonight."
His voice came from behind me. My eyes brightened. I turned back around.
"You're letting me stay? Thank you so much." I smiled and dragged my suitcase in. He locked the door behind us.
His living room was like a football field. They were expensive dark furniture, portraits lined on the walls, everything arranged with the kind of quiet precision that said this man lived alone and liked it that way.
Everywhere smelled just like him. Cool and icy. I stood there for a second just breathing it in before I caught myself.
There was one problem though. This was clearly a bachelor's apartment. And a bachelor's apartment meant one bedroom.
This was going to be very difficult. I'd have to be very careful from now on. He was dangerously handsome but I had a boyfriend and I wouldn't get entangled with my neighbour on top of everything else already going wrong in my life.
"The bathroom is on the left in case you need to take a shower." He looked at me briefly then sat on the edge of the bed.
"Thanks. I'll need that."
I picked out my towel and went in. The shower was hot and good and I stayed under it longer than I should have. When I came out he was on his side of the bed. His back to me, already done with whatever conversation he'd decided we weren't having. That was fine by me. I changed into my pyjamas, climbed onto my side of the bed and stared at the ceiling until I fell asleep.
Victor's POV
For the next few days we barely spoke to each other. Only when it was necessary. During meals, directions around the apartment, brief exchanges that died before they became anything. She stayed on her side of the space and I stayed on mine and it worked well enough.
It was best that way. I didn't want to get entangled with her. She was a complete stranger. Someone I barely knew.
Then one evening I was watching a horror movie when she stepped out of the room.
"Woah, you watch horror movies too?"
"My favourite genre," I said.
"Same here. I prefer it to sloppy love stories." She smiled and dropped onto the couch next to me.
Something about the room felt different with her in it. It felt ess quiet. The movie played for about thirty minutes with both of us watching without talking, but it wasn't uncomfortable the way our silences usually were. It was the first time since she moved in that the apartment didn't feel like two strangers tolerating each other.
"Do you take alcohol?" I heard myself say. I never watched movies without a drink.
"Of course. I'm in." She raised a thumb up.
I poured her a glass of champagne and one for myself. The bottle was nearly empty not long after and I felt that looseness in the chest, the edges of everything was going soft. I felt lighter and more present than I'd been in a while.
She was smiling more too. Laughing at things in the movie, tucking her legs under her on the couch, her red hair falling over one shoulder. She looked completely at ease and it was doing something to my focus that I didn't really want to examine too closely.
"It's hot in here. I'll go take a shower." She stood up and stumbled slightly on her way to the bathroom, catching herself and laughing quietly.
I switched off the TV and sat there for a moment.
Then I stood up and walked toward the door. I was losing my mind. I knew that. But I opened it anyway.
She was sitting on the edge of the bathtub, legs spread, her pussy in full view. Her fingers rubbed slowly back and forth then in circles, her head was thrown back, lips parted, moaning softly. My dick was throbbing just watching her like that. The way she slid two wet fingers inside and pressed slowly, then picked up speed, arching her back, completely lost in her own body.
Then her eyes opened and locked with mine.
I swallowed hard. She didn't move. Her pussy was still wide open and her chest was rising and falling fast and her eyes didn't leave my face.
Her gaze dropped slowly to my crotch.
I stepped back and pulled the door shut and walked straight to the kitchen. Maybe cold water would sort out whatever was happening in my head.
It didn't.
She came out a few minutes later, changed into a flowery pyjama, and walked to the cabinet without looking at me. We said nothing. I could feel the awkwardness sitting between us like a third person in the room. Her head was still a little loose from the alcohol. I could tell from the way she moved, slow and careful. But she'd seen what she'd seen and I'd seen what I'd seen and neither of us was going to be the first to mention it.
I was staring at the counter when I felt her eyes on me.
I turned. She was looking at me with that expression . Not quite bold, not quite unsure. But somewhere in between.
"Feeling bored?" I said.
"Yes. Just bored." She smiled lazily.
I looked at her for a moment. "Then let's play a game to help you fall asleep."
"What do you have in mind?" The enthusiasm in her voice came out before she could stop it.
"Roleplay."
Arielle's POV I couldn't stop thinking about what Stella had said.I think you need to go see Victor. Right now.I sat on the edge of my bed staring at the wall.Could she be thinking that I...I was turning into what Victor was?Was that even possible? And if it were, how did I turn? These were questions Victor could answer. He would know what was wrong with me.I grabbed my jacket and headed downstairs.I almost made it to the front door before Martha spotted me."Going somewhere, dear?"Forcing a smile, I replied, "Just getting some air."The old woman narrowed her eyes. Clearly she didn't believe me, but thankfully she didn't stop me.A few minutes later I was in my car heading toward the police station. The closer I got, the stranger I felt. My pulse kept speeding up. My palms were sweating.I couldn't deny that seeing him again was something I'd been looking forward to.The realization annoyed me."Get a grip, Arielle. You're only going there to ask questions, not spend the nigh
VICTOR’S POVThe concrete floor of the holding cell was freezing, but I barely felt it.I sat with my back pressed against the stained wall, my wrists loosely bound by heavy steel handcuffs. The noise of the police station. Phones ringing, distant shouting, the rhythmic clacking of a typewriter were supposed to be deafening, but to me, it was just background noise. My mind was entirely occupied by the haunting image of Arielle’s face. The last time I saw her was a blur of flashing red and blue lights. The look she gave me before the car door slammed shut was permanently burned into my mind. She looked worn out from the trauma of her abduction, but hurting even more from the disappointment of the truth. That I killed her mother.A heavy wave of guilt wrapped around my chest, making it hard to breathe. I closed my eyes, the memory of that horrific night flashing behind my eyelids. The weight of Selene's blood on my hands was a curse I carried willingly, but seeing that same horror
Arielle’s POV I woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck.Every part of my body hurt.I groaned and slowly opened my eyes, staring at the ceiling above my bed. For a moment, I couldn't remember what had happened. Then, flashes came rushing back.Golden eyes. Pain. So much pain. It felt like my bones had been breaking apart, one after another.I sat up carefully, wincing as soreness spread through my muscles. "What the hell happened to me?" I whispered. The room was quiet. Sunlight poured through the curtains, making everything look normal. But nothing felt normal.A knock sounded on the door before one of the maids entered. "Miss Arielle, the doctor is waiting downstairs."I frowned. "The doctor?""He has been coming and going since you passed out" I noticed how she stood by the door without entering.“How long was I out?”“Three days miss Arielle” That long? The maid added “your father called the doctor immediately you passed out” Of course he did.A few minutes later, I foun
Arielle’s POV Some days passed after Victor's arrest and my rescue. Very long and exhausting days. The kidnapping was everywhere on the news. Every channel talked about Simeon Kane’s arrest and how he had orchestrated everything because my father planned to expose his illegal dealings. Reporters crowded outside our mansion daily. Police officers came in and out constantly. And somehow, despite all the chaos around me… Victor remained the only thing on my mind. I hated it. I hated that after finding out he killed my mother, part of me still couldn't let him go. My father noticed it too. That was probably why he hadn't asked me about my relationship with Victor. Like pretending he didn't exist would somehow erase the contradicting feelings I was having. But it couldn't. Because every quiet moment brought him back into my head. Especially at night. Every single night, I dreamed about Victor. Sometimes I dreamed about the night we slept together. His han
Arielle’s POVThe warehouse stayed painfully silent. Even the officers looked confused. My father kept staring at Victor with pure hatred in his eyes.Like he had waited years for this exact moment.I looked toward Victor so fast my neck hurt.“What?”Victor said nothing. And somehow his silence hurt more than anything else.“No,” I whispered immediately. I couldn't have possibly slept with my mother's murderer could I?My father laughed bitterly.“I saw him that night,” he snapped angrily. “Your mother died because of him.”I turned toward Victor desperately.“I can't,” he admitted quietly.Everything inside me broke apart.I slowly stepped backward.“No…”“Arielle,” he said softly.“Don't say my name.”Tears burned my eyes instantly. My father moved protectively in front of me immediately like he was afraid Victor would suddenly attack.“That animal killed your mother seven years ago,” he continued harshly. “I saw him shift after attacking her.”Victor clenched his jaw tightly.“I
Arielle’s POVAnother growl ripped through the warehouse. The sound was so loud the walls almost seemed to shake with it.Another growl followed.Closer this time.My heart hammered violently against my chest. Then suddenly, the metal warehouse door burst open with a deafening crash.Everything happened too fast after that.A huge dark wolf lunged at the first man near the entrance and threw him hard across the room before anyone could react.Gunshots immediately exploded everywhere. The wolf moved impossibly fast. One second it was near the door. The next it was tearing another man away from me before he could even raise his weapon properly. The glowing blue eyes landed on me briefly before returning to the men surrounding us.I stared in complete shock.Blue eyes. Was that Victor? The same man who touched me earlier suddenly grabbed my chair from behind and dragged me backward roughly.“Stay still!”I gasped painfully as the ropes dug deeper into my wrists. The wolf growled lowly an
