MIA

After Dilan left, I didn't bother trying the door that led outside. I knew it would be locked. And even if it weren’t, where would I go?

I'd decided to accept whatever happened next. I was too tired to cry—too exhausted to think.

So I did as he advised. I first went up to my assigned room to bathe. I spent minutes dragging chairs into the bathroom, climbing on them to rub my hands along the walls, searching for cameras. I doubted Dilan would go as far as putting cameras in the bathroom, but it wouldn’t hurt to check.

He had surprised me too much in such a short time. His actions were so unpredictable that, even though I witnessed them myself, my brain still found it hard to follow.

When I was sure there were no cameras, I bathed, forcing away the thoughts that tried to come as soon as I closed my eyes. Bell was still unresponsive, but maybe that was for the best. If she were awake, she’d be reminding me of all my problems.

After bathing, I picked a simple dress I found in the

KHALIDI dragged the camera away from the spy as soon as he finished sending the new videos to his boss, who he called “Victor.” He had told me he had to send regular reports to Victor about what I was doing at the moment.I let him send Victor the video he made of me: when I exited the car, when I walked to bring the shovel, how I had carried her body, and how I buried her. Literally every single thing I did when I came back.I'd only ordered him to cut the part where I blurred towards him. This was all so Victor would think everything was still in place. He wouldn’t know he had been rattled out.We were sitting on the grass under the tree near the grave I dug since there was no other place to sit. “How many do you say you are?”He didn’t meet my gaze. He had been shaking and flinching since the moment I caught him, and his fear was starting to annoy me.“I—I don’t—”“I mean, apart from you, how many people follow me around?”“M-maybe around five… I’m not really sure. I’m just the on

Dilan was outside his house, talking to someone on the phone. He was checking his watch as he spoke, leaning over his vehicle. Victor's voice was triumphant through the speaker.“I did just as you asked me to, boss. Only burnt half the house. And the house-help was taken care of too.”Dilan nodded his head, a satisfied expression spreading across his face. “Levi called to tell me my brother’s reaction to the rumor. He said Khalid’s pride was bruised and he might have passed-out from the pressure and humiliation. Apparently, the Alpha also clawed his face.” “What?!” Victor sounded shocked. “That means he really isn’t having the best time of his life right now. He really would kill you if he set his eyes on you.”Dilan let out a low chuckle, then he entered his car. “He’ll never set his eyes on me unless I want him to. Your men say he’s still sniffing around to find me and his mate, right?”“Yes, he is, boss. As a matter of fact, he’s running around in circles. He didn’t sleep last nig

MIA“She didn’t say anything!” I insisted, though I knew it was too late.“Mia… If things are going to work out, you have to tell me the truth.”Dilan was too close now, his gaze burning into my skin. I regretted not running into the bathroom earlier, just as I'd considered. He reached me, then grabbed my waist, pulling me forward. Fear leapt from my chest. I tried to push him away, but he seized my hands.“Let’s forget about how much she told you. I’ll get that from her myself. Now, about what we were saying. What is your decision?”My hands shook in his, and I shivered with both pressure and want as our eyes locked. His were empty—cold and unwavering. I was sure he saw fear in mine. I felt the towel begin to loosen from my body.“Dilan… the towel. If you don’t release my hand, it’ll loosen.”“Maybe that’s what it’ll take for you to give me an answer,” he replied sharply.I looked away from his eyes, afraid he’d see what they said—afraid he’d see that I wanted him.Bell suddenly grow

MIA“I… I… Dilan mostly grew up with me and my family.”The revelation stunned me, though I tried not to let it show. If this was my chance to learn even a bit about why everything was happening, I wasn’t going to scare her off.“Okay. And…?”“We were very young then. Too young,” her eyes looked distant, the last of her tears still glistening. “And he was always quiet. But his eyes… they were always filled with pain. He used to say his family was busy—and wouldn’t like it if he was around. But it kept going like that for years. Eventually, we had to ask the obvious question: Just how busy is your family? And what exactly are they so busy with?”I shook my head slightly, wishing I could convince her to come inside without interrupting her train of thought. Her standing there in the doorway was risky for too many reasons. Someone might come out from their room… or walk through the sitting room and see her.And worse—if Dilan wasn’t asleep, he might hear her. His senses were sharp. If he

MIAWe returned to the house just after midnight. I stepped out of the vehicle as Dilan parked it. I’d moved to the back seat because Eva had joined us.Both of them came out as well. Dilan still had a frown on his face—annoyance carved into his features. He looked like he wanted to argue when Eva insisted on coming back with us, but in the end, he didn’t say a word.I felt more relaxed now, genuinely pleased to have Bell back. After we’d all run and shifted back to our human forms, I thanked her—but she didn’t respond. I’d talk to her properly when I got back to my room. The chill of the night grazed my skin as Eva linked her arm through Dilan’s. She was smiling, her face lit up with a kind of joy I hadn’t seen in her before. Dilan, on the other hand, looked stiff—like her touch was suffocating him—and he didn’t hide it in the slightest. But Eva didn’t seem to care.As we entered the house, I was still smiling. I liked how chaotic the two of them were together. Like a pair of cats an

KHALIDBile climbed up my throat as I slowly approached her body, every bone in my body vibrating. The fire didn’t kill her.Her throat had been clawed out, revealing raw flesh—red, torn, brutal. Her eyes were open, still wide with terror. She’d died in fear. Violently. Alone. My pulse raced. I couldn’t breathe. Who did this? Why?The pain in my chest this time was different—sharp and cold, biting at the corners of my eyes, inviting tears I didn’t want to let fall.If someone had a problem with me, why would they take it out on innocent Lady Velvet? “Why…” I muttered, crouching beside her. I touched her face. Her body was still warm. This had been done not long ago—right after I left the house this morning. With a trembling hand, I gently closed her eyes.Guilt and rage boiled inside me.Lady Velvet had been in my life for years. She was the closest person to me. The only one I respected deeply. She was kind… calm… everything I wasn’t.And now she was gone. And my soul seemed to have
