What is this?” he whispered, his voice suddenly quiet and shaky. He pointed at the tablet, then looked at Chloe, his chest rising and falling fast. “Chloe what is this?”

Chloe closed her eyes and let out a broken sob. She kissed Scott’s hair gently, knowing the secret she had protected for seven long years had just shattered in a single night.

“He… he likes puzzles,” Chloe whispered, her voice shaking as she held Scott close. “George, please. He didn’t mean to. He’s only six.”

George didn’t seem to hear her. His eyes stayed fixed on the boy, his thoughts spinning fast. The truth hit him hard, crashing over him like a wave.

He had a son.

The tablet’s bright green light filled the tiny closet, making strange shadows dance on the walls.

Scott looked back and forth between his mother’s tear-stained face and the towering man standing in the doorway. He didn't understand the complex web of adult history binding them, but he did understand his tablet. On its screen, the words from Boss Industries kept flashing, showing that something had gone wrong. He looked up again and met George’s sharp, grey eyes.

"You have the same encryption key," Scott said suddenly, his small voice incredibly clear in the tense silence. He wasn't crying. Instead, a spark of pure, intellectual fascination lit up his face. "It’s like a big puzzle. I had to use a triple-nested exploit to bypass your handshake protocol. Your mainframe is really smart. Did you build it yourself?"

George stared at the boy, his formidable mind completely short-circuiting. "I... yes. I built the foundation," George managed to say, his voice rough and uneven.

"Scott, shh! Sweetie, please don't say anything else," Chloe said, her voice shaking, her hand gently covering her son's mouth. Then she stood up quickly, pulling Scott up with her and stepping in front of him to physically block George’s view of him. Her fear turned into something stronger, a mother’s desperate need to protect her child. “He didn’t mean to do it, George. He thought it was just a game. You have to understand, he’s only a child!”

George stepped back out of the closet into the bedroom, his shock instantly hardening back into a dark, volatile anger. "A child?" he echoed, his voice rising as the gravity of the situation hit him. "A child just breached a multi-billion-dollar security network, Chloe! But that isn't the issue here, is it? He's six years old. six."

Chloe pushed past him into the bedroom, keeping Scott tightly glued to her side. "Don't you dare raise your voice in my house!"

"Your house?" George shouted, spinning around. His face turned red with anger as he pointed at the broken bedroom door and the wooden stairs "You’ve been living a lie in this house! Look at him, Chloe! He has my eyes. He has my jaw. He just hacked my company using a modified toy! You hid my son from me for six years!"

"I protected him from you!" Chloe cried, her own voice cracking with a mix of shame and rage. Her cheeks burned with a fierce, hot blush, the painful shame of being caught in a massive, six-year prolonged deceit, but deep down she still felt proud that she had given her son a peaceful, normal life up until this exact second. "Look at what you did tonight, George! Look at your lifestyle! You swarmed a quiet suburban neighborhood with black SUVs and men carrying assault rifles because of a digital anomaly! I didn't want this life for him! I didn't want him to be raised in a fortress surrounded by bodyguards, always afraid!"

"He is a Boss!" George roared, slamming his fist onto the wooden dresser so hard that the jewellery boxes shook. "He belongs in that fortress! Do you have any idea what his digital signature just did? If my competitors or foreign intelligence agencies trace that breach back to this house before my team erases the servers, he won't just be in trouble with me. He will be a target!"

Scott sat quietly on the edge of the bed, watching them, his head tilting curiously. He wasn't accustomed to shouting, but he wasn't crying either. He looked at George's furious, breathing-heavy stance, and then down at his own small hands. "Are you my dad?" he asked, his voice calm and direct.

The question hit the room like a thunderclap, sudden, sharp, and impossible to ignore.

The shouting instantly died. George froze, his chest heaving under his well-tailored suit jacket. He looked at Scott, the anger completely draining from his expression, leaving behind a raw, vulnerable look that Chloe had never seen on him before. He opened his mouth to speak, but for the first time in his life, the powerful George Boss had absolutely no idea what to say.

The silence in the bedroom grew so heavy, it felt like it might break. George stared at the little boy sitting on the edge of the bed. The powerful billionaire, usually cold and untouchable, seemed smaller now. The anger drained from his face, and the tightness in his shoulders slowly eased.

Slowly, deliberately, George unbuttoned his suit jacket. He took a few steps forward and sank onto one knee, bringing himself exactly eye-level with the six-year-old. Up close, the resemblance was undeniable.

"Yes," George said, his voice dropping into a low, gentle rumble that Chloe had never heard him use before. "I am your dad."

Scott’s eyes widened slightly. He looked down at his modified tablet, then back up at George’s face. "Your encryption key is a prime number sequence. It’s smart. But the third node has a delayed response time. That’s how I got in."

A faint smile appeared on George’s lips, a rare, genuine expression that softened the harsh lines of his face. “I know,” he said quietly. “I wrote that code myself ten years ago. You’re the first person to ever exploit it. You’re very smart, Scott."

"I got it from Mommy," Scott said flatly.

George glanced at Chloe for a brief moment before turning his eyes back to the boy. “Clearly,” he said. He placed his large hand gently on Scott’s small shoulder. “Because you solved that puzzle, some dangerous people might try to look for you now. My job is to make sure they never find you. Do you understand?"

Scott nodded slowly, sensing the gravity in the man's tone.

Then, just as quickly as the gentleness had appeared, it vanished. George stood back up. The soft, paternal warmth was gone, instantly replaced by the cold, commanding authority of a CEO under threat. He turned to Chloe, his eyes flashing with urgency.

"Pack your bags," George ordered, his voice clipping each word sharply. "Both of you. You have five minutes. We are leaving right now."

The transition from the neutral house to George’s primary downtown penthouse was swift and silent. They were driven in an armored car with tinted windows blocking out the city. When the elevator opened straight into the top floor, Chloe could feel how rich George was; his wealth seemed to fill the air. The penthouse was huge and sleek, built with smooth concrete, dark metal, and tall glass walls showing the city below. It felt less like a home and more like a high-tech corporate command center. Sophisticated security panels blinked silently beside every door, and biometric scanners hummed near the entryways, making the place feel both impressive and intimidating.Chloe walked through the space slowly, her footsteps echoing. The air smelled clean, almost too clean, like a hospital. Scott did not cry or cling to his mother. Instead, the moment his small sneakers touched the shiny floor, his eyes lit up. He dropped his gaze to the integrated touchpads on the walls, tracking the subtle p

The morning sun rose, cold and sharp, casting long shadows through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the neutral house Chloe had chosen as their temporary neutral ground. The glass and steel surrounding them did nothing to dull the noise of the legal storm crashing through the front door.By 8:00 AM, the living room was flooded with George’s high-priced legal team. Three lawyers in immaculate, dark suits sat across from Chloe at a table, their leather briefcases open, revealing thick stacks of legal motions and custody petitions.George stood by the window, his back turned to the room, calm but commanding. He wore a dark charcoal suit that probably cost more than what Chloe made in a year. His presence seemed to control the space, cold, powerful, and impossible to ignore. Looking out over the city skyline like a general surveying a battlefield. His cold, unyielding posture made it clear that the brief moment of fatherly softness from the night before was completely buried under corporat

"We are not going anywhere with you," Chloe said, her voice shaking but resolute as she stepped directly between George and the bed, physically shielding Scott once again. "Chloe, look around you," George snapped, gesturing to the shattered doorway. "Your perimeter is completely compromised. The digital footprint of Scott’s hack is sitting in a global cache right now. My tech teams are scrubbing it, but if a single foreign agent or corporate rival gets a piece of that data, they will trace it to this house. You can not protect him here. We are going to my compound in the city." "Your compound is a golden cage, George! The second I step foot in there, you'll use your lawyers and your money to lock me out and keep him forever," Chloe fired back, her heart hammering against her ribs. She was terrified of the threat outside, but she was entirely re-energized by the threat of losing her son to a man who always got what he wanted. "I don't have time for a custody battle in the middle of

The vibrating sound from the refrigerator was the only sound keeping Chloe grounded in the quiet, heavy stillness of the night at about 11:00 pm. In front of her was a table with a laptop on it, and beside it was a cup of coffee. She stared at the bright light emanating from the screen of her laptop. Freelance coding contracts paid the bills, but tonight, the rhythm of her typing was just a distraction from the sleeplessness that always seemed to find her. In the bedroom upstairs was her six-year-old son, Scott, who was fast asleep. The floor started to vibrate. Chloe froze and stopped typing on her computer. It wasn’t thunder from the sky; it was the deep, growly sound of several big cars waiting outside her suburban driveway. Slowly, she stood up, with her heart beating very fast. She tiptoed to the window, parting the curtains by a fraction of an inch to peep outside of her window for her to see what was going on. Three midnight-black SUVs were parked outside her house.
