Chapter 84: He Wanted to Kiss Me

~ Willow ~

My heart started racing, my mind got fuzzy. I want this, I do, but I can’t. It’s not right. Oh God! I need to breathe! I broke away from him and swam back to the surface. I have to put distance between myself and Brax. Once on the surface I started swimming back to the riverbank. I heard Brax come up just after me.

“Willow, wait!” I didn’t even look back. I can’t, not right now. I twisted my hair in my hands to force some water out. Then I pulled my swimsuit cover back over my head. I picked up my sandals and started walking back toward the caves. I heard the sound of someone running up behind me. “Willow, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to overstep. I just can’t…” I turned to look at him.

“Brax, I am seeing someone back home.”

“I thought it wasn’t official.” He replied to me. How did he know that? Seeming to read my thoughts. “Mona told me.” He said. Of course, she did.

“Well, that may be changing soon.” I replied to him. He growled out and ran in front to face me.

“Willow, stop walking.” I didn’t listen. He was walking backwards now, just to face me. He sighed and ran his hands through his black hair. “Let me walk you back to your tent at least.” He said, then moved to begin walking beside me.

Once we made our way back to the caves The sun had started to set, and dusk was upon us. Most everyone is still at the river swimming. I walk toward the fire and sit down on one of the logs that had been positioned around the fire. Brax took a log next to me. The heat from the flames felt good on my damp skin. I moved to ring more water out of my hair and placed it into a messy bun on top of my head. Brax was still sitting shirtless next to me. He had his elbows placed on his knees and his head was resting in his hands.

“Look, Brax… I don’t want you to think that I don’t like you, I do. It’s just that… I have never seen us being anything other than good friends. Now… you are like a completely different guy, and I’ll admit I am attracted to you. I am just talking to Drake right now. Until I clear things up with him, it’s not right to lead you on…” Brax moved to look at me.

“You are not leading me on Willow. You have made your feelings for Drake Cinder clear to me. I just don’t give a damn about him. You though… I respect you. If you want me to stay away… I will, but it will be hard.” He looked toward the ground again. “I like you Willow. I feel a need to be with you, to feel you and hold you. I can’t explain it. We are two different races, but if I had to guess… I would compare this to the beginnings of the mate bond.” My eyes grew wide.

“What?!” I know what he is talking about. I feel the same thing. Hearing it said out loud was heart stopping though. Dragons and werewolves both have mates. It all works differently between the two races though. Never have I heard of a Dragon and a werewolf mating or being fated mates. I am not only a werewolf, I am the first born Lycan! What is happening? “That’s not possible Brax. It wouldn’t work, we are just confused.” I said to him, he raised his head to look at me. This time he focused on my eyes.

“So, you’re saying you feel it too?” He said not really a question. Realization hit me. Maybe I do feel it too.

I didn’t answer his question. I heard my phone start ringing inside the tent. I quickly ran to answer it. Brax stayed seated on his log.

“Hello?” I said into the receiver. Not even thinking to see who was calling. I guess I assumed it was my parents since I haven’t spoken with them today. I walked back over to my log and sat back down.

“Hey baby, how’s your day going?” Drake… I was happy to hear from him, but nervous at the same time. Brax is right next to me. I am sure he can hear what Drake is saying. Supernatural hearing is common for supernatural beings.

“Uh… it’s been great.” I sounded a little too suspicious, which was exactly what I didn’t want right now. I could see that Brax’s jaw started to clench and unclench. He knew I was talking to Drake.

“What’s wrong?” Drake asked me.

“Nothing, we are just camping out. What have you been up to today?” I tried to change the subject.

“Honestly, nothing. It’s been boring as hell here without you. I miss you and that tight ass of yours.” My face grew red. I didn’t know what to say back to Drake. I heard Brax give out a low growl next to me. Shit!

“Who was that?” Drake said. I didn’t say anything. I looked at Brax and swallowed hard. “Willow, I said who the fuck was that?” Drake sounded angry now.

“Drake, don't you dare talk to me that way. I am not the type of girl that you can talk down to.”

“It’s that fucking dragon prince, isn’t it? Your fucking him, aren’t you?” I can’t believe him right now. Is he really accusing me of sleeping around? I was nice but he has pissed me off past my boiling point.

“You know what Drake? You and I aren’t official. Since I have been gone, your true colors have started to shine through. I think you and I should take a break. I need some time to think about things.”

“I knew it. You couldn’t help but spread your fucking legs for him, could you?”

Shock overtook me. I felt a ting of hurt and anger all at once. I heard things breaking in the background. He was throwing things. Brax grabbed the phone from my hand.

“You listen here you piece of shit. She is with me. Regardless of my advances, she has been nothing but faithful to you. I don’t know who you think you are, but you will not talk to her like that and let me find out.” Brax said to him.

“Oh yeah, and what are you going to do about it lizard?” Brax’s crystal blue eyes started to glow.

“I can’t wait to fucking kill you.” Brax replied.

“I can’t wait for the day you try.” Drake said back to him.

I snatch the phone back out of Brax’s hand. He roared out really loud and walked off. I have had it with Drake disrespecting me.

“Drake, I should have listened to everyone who tried to tell me better. You and I may not have been official, but as of right now, what we did have… is over.” I said this while tears fell from my eyes.

“Willow, wait… Please, don’t do this. I’m sorry. I was wrong.” I cut him off.

“Don’t even try to apologize this time, Drake. Don’t call me ever again.” I hung up the phone. I sunk down to the ground. The tears were clouding my vision now. The heart ache was consuming, but it wasn’t as painful as the feeling of regret, and disappointment. I can’t believe I let myself become so reckless.

I walked over to my tent and stepped inside to change out of my wet clothes. I only brought one change of clothes with me. Some night shorts and a tank top. I stepped back outside to see if I could find Brax. He’s still gone. I felt more tears coming, and I moved to quickly wipe them away. Mona’s back from the river.

“Willow, what’s wrong?” Mona ran over to me. “Did my cousin do something to you? Where is he?” I shook my head.

“No, Mona. I just broke things off with Drake. He was being an asshole to me again.” I saw anger and hurt crossover Mona’s expression. She leaned down and wrapped me into a big hug.

“I know it hurts, Willow. This is for the best, you will see.”

I stood up and walked with her back over to the logs that were placed around the fire. I had a seat on the log I was sitting on earlier. More people started returning to the campsite from the river. I still didn’t see Brax. I wonder where he went. He defended me… again. Everyone started gathering around the fire. Mona brought me a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket.

“Thank you, Mona.” I wrapped the blanket around my shoulders and tried to distract my mind by listening to some of the scary stories that were being told. I was pulled away from the stories when I heard some girls to my right near the caves talking.

“Where is Brax? I saw him walk away with that Lycan girl.”

“I know, I saw him walk away with her also. I wonder if they are seeing each other.”

“I hope not. I don’t know why he would want to see her. He needs a dragon heir.” Gur… I just want this trip to be over.

Out in the distance I notice the physique of a man walking up. That must be Brax.

“BRAX man! Where have you been.” A guy ran up to Brax. He and Brax did one of their guy handshakes.

“Out for a walk, man.” I heard Brax say with a raspy voice. Every time I am near him, he manages to jump Infront of a fight for me.

“That’s because he is a good guy, Willow” Yeah, he really is.

“Too good for us, Nola.” I said back to her. “Good guys don’t do it for me anyway, Nola. You know that.”

“Just because he is a good guy, doesn’t mean he always plays by the rules, or that he is weak. You will see.” Nola said back to me.

~ Brax ~

Cam ran over to me.

“BRAX man! Where have you been.” He asked.

“Out for a walk, man.” I said back to him.

“Dude, the girls have been itching to get ahold of you tonight. You could take your pick.” He said back to me. I just shook my head at him.

“Nah, I couldn’t. The one I want isn’t one of them.” I said back to him.

“Oh, you mean that hot little Lycan over there?” Cam motioned toward Willow. “I don’t blame you. She’s a fiery one, I bet she would be a hell of a lay.” I stopped walking and grabbed him by his shirt.

“Shut the fuck up, Cam. Don’t talk about her that way. She’s better than that.” I growled out at him. He raised his hands up in submission. I let him go and continued walking toward the group of people surrounding the fire. No one else but Mona knows how I feel about Willow. I admitted a lot to Willow earlier before that mother fucker called her and interrupted things. I didn’t tell her everything. Yes, I feel pulled toward her, but I have felt that my entire life. It was only recently that I felt the pull in an intimate way. I guess it’s like a coming-of-age thing. After Drake called her, and I heard the way he spoke to her, I saw red. I want to rip his heart straight out of his chest. Damn, even if she doesn’t want me… she deserves better than him.

I made my way over to Mona and Willow. I was relieved to find that the log next to Willow was empty. I sat down next to her. She looked toward me.

“Are you okay?” She asked me. She’s asking me that.

“Are you?” I answered her question with a question.

“I will be… I can’t believe him. He has never spoken to me like that.”

“Willow, if I find out that you go back home, and get back with that guy….” Her expression turned to that of anger.

“You will what, Brax?”  She spat the words out at me. “I am tired of men trying to tell me what to do.” Willow jumped up to walk away. I stood and grabbed her arm. She turned and looked me straight in the eyes.

“I’m sorry, Willow. I guess that makes me no better than him. I just… want you to be okay.” her features soften.

“I am a big girl, Brax. I can take care of myself.” I surprise her by pulling her in for a hug. Even more surprising, she returns my hug. I could hold her like this forever.

Then Music started blaring and everyone started dancing. Cam started passing out drinks, and things started to loosen up. Willow smiled at me and took my hand to lead me over to where everyone was dancing.

“Dance with me, Brax.” She said, I watched as she walked in front of me. Her hips were swaying from side to side. Damn, she’s hypnotizing.

It’s a shame that it took me putting distance between us for his true colors to shine through. I grabbed Brax’s hand.“Dance with me, Brax.” I said. I led him over to where everyone else was dancing. The music was a nice smooth beat that was perfect for close and seductive dancing. I turned to face Brax. I looked up into his piercing blue eyes. He placed his bottom lip between his teeth and grabbed my hips to pull me closer. My heart rate instantly sped up. Now that I didn’t have the lingering thought of doing Drake wrong stopping me from advancing things with Brax, I was a little nervous. I tried to seem as confident as possible. He placed one hand behind my bac

He immediately shifted back into his human form. Dragons were lucky, their God Typhon gifted them the ability to be able to keep their clothes after shifting. I let my eyes linger on Brax a little too long. He caught me and gave me a cheeky grin. I rolled my eyes at him.“Don’t flatter yourself.” I said. His grin grew wider.“Oh, I am.” He replied to me. Then he proceeded to let his eyes roam the length of my body. My face instantly turned red. Was I really embarrassed right now? He obviously wanted me to watch him check me out. Wow! This guy… When did he get so… damn sexy? I feel so confused. My emotions are all over the place right now. Thank Goddess for Mona.“How was the flight down the cliff?” She asked me.“It was good.” The reply didn’t come from me, but from Brax. I stopped myself from rolling my eyes once

Each one caused me to feel heart ache worse than the other. I want so badly to call him, but I can’t right now.I was awakened by my phone ringing. I groaned and rolled over. The clock says it’s 2:00pm. When did I fall asleep? I pick up my phone and without looking I press the answer button.“Hello?” I said into the receiver.“Willow!
