Chapter 85: Firefly

I decided that I wasn’t going to let thoughts of Drake consume me. I have let him hurt me enough. It’s a shame that it took me putting distance between us for his true colors to shine through. I grabbed Brax’s hand.

“Dance with me, Brax.” I said. I led him over to where everyone else was dancing. The music was a nice smooth beat that was perfect for close and seductive dancing. I turned to face Brax. I looked up into his piercing blue eyes. He placed his bottom lip between his teeth and grabbed my hips to pull me closer. My heart rate instantly sped up. Now that I didn’t have the lingering thought of doing Drake wrong stopping me from advancing things with Brax, I was a little nervous. I tried to seem as confident as possible. I wrapped my arms around his neck. When I touched his bare skin, I felt something… different. It was like little pings of static electricity. Brax felt it also, I could tell by the look in his eyes. He placed one hand behind my back and pulled me flush against his chest. Our noses are now touching as we sway and move to the music. It’s the perfect setting. The sun has completely set now. The only light was from the moon and the fire which was casting dancing shadows over the cave walls. To our left, right, and straight in front of us was nothing but fields of grass and wildflowers. There were no clouds in the sky, so I was able to see every shining star.

A light breeze picked up and blew some strands of my hair down from my messy bun that was on top of my head. Brax laughed and moved his hand to comb the loose hair behind my ear. He didn’t move his hand off my face. He let it linger, and gently stroked my skin. He then used the knuckle of his index finger to lift my chin so our eyes could meet. He lowered his head and our lips touched. Neither of us let the kiss go any further than that.

“I want so badly to kiss you, Willow. I know now is not the right time,” Brax whispered into my mouth. Then he let his hand fall back to my waist and he kissed me on my forehead. That tiny gesture simply melted me.

We continued to dance and move to the music. A guy came by with drinks. They were tiny shots. I didn’t really feel like drinking, but one shot couldn’t hurt.

“Hey Brax, you know it’s not a party without dragon’s blood.” Said the guy. Huh.

“Dragon’s blood?” I asked. Brax looked at me and grinned. He tossed his drink back and spoke.

“It’s what we call this drink. It’s a lot more potent than anything else you can find. Our elders usually keep it locked away from the younger generation, but Cam here has connections that can get him into the cellars.” Brax laughed. I turned my shot glass up and let the green liquid flow down my neck. It stung while going down. Wow… my eyes were watering. Both the guys laughed. I looked at Brax and then to the other guy. “Willow, this is my best friend, Cam. Cam, this is one of my oldest friends, Willow.” I leaned in to hug him. Our hug was only brief because Brax stepped in between us.

“Yeah… don’t go getting cozy with this one, Cam. She is off limits.” I looked at Brax.

“Off limits?” I said while raising one eyebrow and crossing my arms. “Who says?” I don’t have to wait on his response.

“I say…” I pull back. Now who does he think he is. I didn’t get the chance to protest before Cam chimed in.

“Oh, so is she already claimed by a certain dragon prince?” He asked Brax. Brax stepped toward me and grabbed my waist. He pulled my body into his and placed his forehead against mine. He was answering Cam’s question, but he was talking straight to me.

“Damn right she is.” I am pretty sure my heart stopped when those words left his lips, because it felt like all the breath had been knocked out of me. I am not the type of girl that can be bossed around. The way he just said that, and the way he just touched me set my body ablaze. I looked into his eyes, and unconsciously licked my lips. I am sure he could hear my rapidly beating heart this very moment.

“That can’t be true.” I looked toward the voice coming from behind Cam. “You can’t claim her as your mate. She is a Lycan.” The same voice kept getting louder. I looked over Cam’s shoulder. I heard a low growl roll through Brax’s chest.

“No one asked for your opinion, Layla.” Brax said while pulling away from me to look toward her. Hmmm… This may be just the type of distraction that I need. Nola grinned in my head.

“You are the dragon prince, Brax. You have to produce an heir to take your place. That has to be done with a dragon.” Said the blonde. She looked agitated now. She stopped walking when she was only three feet away from Brax. Brax kept himself between the blonde and me. I stood on my tiptoes to get a better view of her. Oh, that’s why. It’s the same bitch who flipped her hair and caught me in the face with it from earlier.

“Who said that can’t be done with a sexy Lycan?” Cam asked Layla. Layla growled out in frustration.

“That just wouldn’t work right.” The girl was raising her voice to a level that was pissing me off. “This bitch only came here to steal our prince away from us. None of this is right. What would their kids be? Hairy dragons?” Bitch… She just called me a bitch.

“That bitch just called us a bitch.” Nola said. I let Nola come forward only enough to grow a bit taller and let my fangs and claws extend. My eyes turned into a glowing amber color. With my back pressed against his, I slid my hands around Brax’s waist and up over his abdomen to his chest. I tore his shirt down the canter and began to trace his abs and chest with my claws. I laid my chin on his shoulders while I sexually rubbed his body in front of this loudmouth bitch. I heard Brax’s breath catch, and I felt his heartbeat pick up. I looked Layla straight in the eyes, but I was talking directly to Brax.

“Brax, take me to our tent. I can’t wait to feel… all of you.” I said, then licked from the curve in his neck to his jawbone. Then I took his earlobe between my teeth and pulled a little. Layla was looking at me with her mouth hung wide open.

“DAMN!” Cam mouthed out.

Layla screamed and stomped off. Brax turned around and grabbed my hands. He was wearing the sexiest smirk I had ever seen. I giggled when I saw his shredded shirt clinging for dear life off his shoulders. I looked up into Brax’s eyes. I know he is about to scold me for that, but I don’t care. That loudmouth cow has more than that coming to her. Brax started walking me backwards to put distance between us and Cam. His eyes were completely black right now.

“Willow, if you want to keep me from having my way with you, you may want to reconsider using me for revenge next time.” He was still walking me backwards. We were enveloped by the darkness of the night now. Away from the flickering light of the fire. We could see each other by the low glow of the moonlight.

I watched as his gaze moved over my body. He moved his hands over my thighs. I shifted nervously when his hands passed under my swimsuit cover and over my ass. I had to stifle a moan that begged to escape my lips. He kept moving one hand further up and over my ribs. He stopped to rub his thumb just under one of my breasts gently grazing it. I can’t think right now. His touch is like fire on my skin. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. His chest was rising and falling rapidly. A look of lust blended with his beast was visible in his features. He was close to losing control. Black scales were rolling over his skin, then quickly disappearing as fast as they came. We both wanted each other. The sexual attraction was undeniable, but there was also something else there. Something I couldn’t easily explain. Brax lowered his head down to my marking spot. Shivers came like waves over my body. I took a deep breath and stepped back away from Brax. I looked down at my feet.

“Brax, I…” He lifted my chin so that I was looking directly at him.

“I understand, Willow. I would never want you to do something that you were not comfortable with. I am sorry I nearly lost control of my beast just now. You’re so damn…. tempting.”

“I am sorry I teased you. That girl… Layla has it coming.” He laughed at me, then grabbed my hand to lead me back to the group.
