Nadia

The car rumbled with movement for what felt like forever. Then, finally, it stopped.

I heard the crunch of gravel under boots.

And then the trunk popped open.

Greg's shadow loomed over me and when his face appeared above mine, there was no remorse or fear. Just… indifference.

He bent down, grabbed me by the arms, and dragged me out like luggage. The gravel and sticks bit into my back as I was pulled deeper into the woods.

Then, he dropped me. I landed in damp soil. It smelled like decay.

Greg stood over me for a moment. I saw the faint outline of his face in the moonlight.

“At least nobody will look for you and even if they do? We never met,” With that, he turned and walked away without hesitation, leaving me there to die.

I stared up at the sky, the edges of my vision blurring. Everything was fading to black.

I had no self-healing ability or an inner wolf to save me. Nature would take what Greg left behind.

Tears dropped from my eyes, and my lips trembled with one last whisoered desire.

“I don’t want to die…”

Just then, I heard footsteps. They were getting closer and I could feel the vibrations in the ground.

“Help…” I croaked out with effort. It came out broken. I tried again. “Please…”

There were more footsteps and then a sudden quiet. Had I been abandoned? Did they not hear me?

Just when I was already losing hope, strong arms scooped me up in a princess carry. I was pressed against a broad, warm chest, the scent of pine, smoke, and something wild and electric wrapped around me.

My vision allowed me one last look at the world but I was too weak to scream for help.

I would know those red eyes anywhere, that allure for danger. That bloodthirst.

But my vision was dimming finally giving in to the exhaustion.

“Mate.” That was the last word I heard, then darkness.

~

Women screaming for help.

Children crying.

Blood everywhere.

I bolted upright and cried out as my head exploded in a dizzying pain.

I was panting, realizing that it had only been a dream that the infamous Varic the terrible known for his crimson eyes would save me much less call me his mate.

“You shouldn’t move,” a low, husky voice said.

I froze. Slowly, I turned my head and let out a small cry of panic.

A man was sitting in a dark wooden chair by the fire, watching me.

He was big and muscled like a soldier. He stood slowly and stepped toward me, and the fire’s glow finally touched his face.

My breath caught in my throat.

It hadn’t been a dream…

No. No!

Ren eyes like hot metal. A scar across one brow. A reputation I knew too well. Too close to home. A history that had haunted every wolf tale whispered across the territories.

Varic, The terrible.

My pulse spiked, and I scrambled backward on the bed instinctively, ignoring the pain ripping through my skull. He noticed but remained unfazed. His eyes narrowed slightly with something I couldn't identify.

“So, you know who I am,” he said quietly.

“Good,” he finished and turned back to his seat.

Stories flooded my mind. Stories of the Alpha who tore down enemy packs. Who refused the Council’s rule. Who vanished into the woods and came back with stronger powers without a source.

“Wh-why…” My voice trembled. “Why did you…?”

“You were dying,” he said simply, folding his arms across his chest. “I smelled your blood in the woods. You called out for help.”

My mouth thinned as the bits of memory flickered through me.

I swallowed hard.

Something sharp passed through his gaze. A ghost of emotion too fast to catch.

“I was supposed to kill you,” he said bluntly, stepping closer to the fire, and away from me. “You crossed into my land. That alone is reason enough. But worse…” He tilted his head, watching me. “I smelled Greg on you. You’re his wife.”

My heart sank. He knew Greg?

I was supposed to be on my knees, face on the floor in fear but something about him…

“So why didn’t you?” I asked, stunning myself with courage I have never had.

He was silent for a moment, then looked away toward the window.

“Because you’re just like me” His eyes found mine again. “Your pain needs no curtains.”

Something inside me twisted. I looked down at my hands, weak and useless.

“I don’t want your pity,” I snapped, the remnants of the fear curdling into something bitter. “I don’t want your help. I’ll go back.”

“To what?” Varic’s voice cut in, low and harsh now. “To the man who tried to bury you in the dirt?”

I flinched.

“You’re dangerous. Everyone knows what you are. I’d rather take my chances with the monsters I know than stay here with one I don’t.”

He hardly exhaled or inhaled. Hardly made foot sounds, but when he moved with lightning speed towards me, his figure towering over me in an instant, I didn’t flinch.“You think I’m your biggest threat?”

A dark chuckle escaped his lips while My spine stiffened.

“I don’t care,” I said, stubborn and scared. “There’s nothing anybody else can do to me. I just want to go home.”

He gave me a long, grim look. “Home to meadow pack?” He asked and my brows furrowed.

How did he know my pack name?

A stiffness overcame his face as he looked at me with pity “you didn’t know,” he asked with a shocking concern.

I blinked. “What are you talking about?”

His voice dropped as he explained. “Meadow pack. Five years ago… someone wiped them off the face of this earth.”

My breathing halted. “What?”

“They're gone,” he said flatly. “Your parents. Your bloodline. All of them. Greg killed them.”

What?

“You're fucking kidding.”

*I'm certainly not.” He looked at his fingers.

Varic's pov “Is Nadia back?” My voice came out hoarse, weaker than I intended. The maid lowered her gaze, shaking her head. “No, sir. If she were, I would have informed you immediately.”A heavy sigh escaped me. I tried to push myself up, but my limbs trembled, my strength threatening to give out. She rushed forward, slipping an arm beneath mine to steady me.“Stand back,” I rasped, shaking my head. “I have to do this myself.”Hesitantly, she obeyed, retreating just enough to hover at my side. My body protested every movement, my chest burning with every shallow breath, but I forced myself upright. The world swayed, spots clouding my vision, yet I did not yield. At last, I managed to sit, leaning forward as a cough tore through me, sharp and rattling.“Sorry, sir,” she whispered, quickly offering me a cup of water.I accepted it with shaking hands, sipping slowly until the dryness in my throat eased. I set the cup aside and nodded faintly. “Thank you.” A pause. “I need to have a meet

Nadia's pov The laughter roared through the tavern, bouncing off the wooden beams. Some slapped their knees, others banged their mugs on the tables, jeering and egging Garren on.Elara’s face drained of color, her hands curling into fists beneath the table. I could feel the heat of her panic pressing against me like a tide, but I didn’t let mine show. I straightened in my seat, every inch of me still and deliberate.Garren leaned back in his chair, spreading his arms lazily as though this was all a harmless game. His smile was slick, his eyes sharp. “Well? A healer so confident should have no problem tending to me. A simple ache in my back,” he said, his voice slow, taunting. “Surely that’s not beyond your skill, is it?”His men howled with laughter again, one of them shouting, “Careful, Chief, she might break you!” Another chimed in, “Or you’ll break her first!”Elara looked at me, her lips parting like she wanted to stop me, to drag me out of there before this spiral grew sharper t

Nadia pov The clatter of plates had hardly faded when Garren snapped his fingers. One of his men hurried over, and with a smug grin, Garren ordered, “Bring my finest wine. The oldest in the cellars. Tonight, I will drink with my… guests.”The word “guests” rolled off his tongue. His men cheered at the indulgence, then went back to their seats, leaving the three of us in the suffocating tension of our corner.Garren leaned forward, elbows on the table, his sharp gaze studying me as though he could peel away my skin and read what lay beneath. “Tell me,” he murmured, “where do two women like you come from, wandering into my city? You don’t look like traders. Or travelers.”Elara’s hand brushed mine under the table, a silent warning not to falter. I forced a calm smile, tilting my head ever so slightly. “We’re healers,” I said evenly. “From the northern borders. We move from settlement to settlement, selling herbs and salves. That’s all.”He narrowed his eyes, unconvinced. “Healers? Hm.”

Nadia's pov Garren snapped his fingers, and the waiter hurried back to the table like a trained dog.“Bring food. The best you’ve got for the two ladies,” he ordered, his gaze never leaving me.I lifted my hand, shaking my head. “That’s not necessary. We don’t need ”His smile hardened, the edges curling with warning. “No one rejects things from me.” His voice, though quiet, carried the weight of command. The bar had gone quieter now, ears straining, eyes glancing. Everyone knew who he was and what it meant to cross him.I lowered my hand slowly, narrowing my eyes, but said nothing.Satisfied, he turned to his men. “Go sit. Give us space.”They grumbled but obeyed, scraping chairs and shifting to the next table over, still watching us like vultures. Their laughter had died, but their stares burned holes in our backs, waiting for the show to unfold. Now only three of us remained at the table. Elara stiffened beside me, her hand brushing against mine under the table as if to remind me

  • He Called Me Weak, Now I Hold His Fate   Chapter 126

Nadia's pov The bar was noisy and the men were talking loudly as they cheered and drank away. Till now we had not still drawn attention and that was pretty good but we didn't know how long that was going to last for. After a while, the waiter finally returned, balancing two cloudy glasses of water on a tray. He set them down with a polite nod, but his eyes lingered as though expecting something more.“Will you ladies be having anything else?” he pressed again, his tone careful, curious.Elara shook her head quickly. “Just water.”I hadn’t even touched the glass yet when the scrape of a chair against the floor behind us made my stomach knot. Heavy footsteps drew closer, and I didn’t need to look to know who it was.One of the werewolves from the boisterous table strolled over, that smug expression plastered across his face. I recognized his voice the one who had been so loud about splitting the bounty.“Well, well,” he drawled, dropping into the seat opposite me without invitation.

  • He Called Me Weak, Now I Hold His Fate   Chapter 125

Nadia's pov We broke through the last line of trees, and the world opened up before us. Below the ridge stretched a city, alive with movement the sound of chatter, merchants shouting prices, the distant rattle of carts along cobbled streets. For a moment, it looked like life went on as it always had, bustling and restless. But then I noticed it.Men in uniform moved in pairs, their sharp gazes cutting through the crowd. Their posture wasn’t casual patrol; it was the tight, purposeful stride of hunters. Corners were blocked, checkpoints raised at every main street, and even the gates were bristling with doubled guard.Something was wrong.Beside me, Elara crouched low, following my gaze. “They’re searching for someone,” she whispered, her voice tight.I narrowed my eyes, tracking the way the soldiers stopped strangers, demanding to see papers, inspecting carts as though every barrel hid an enemy. My gut twisted. Whatever this was, it wasn’t routine. The city moved, yes, but unease rip
