“Nicole… Nicole… Nic!” I suddenly jerked back to life as I felt the tap on my thigh. I looked up and it was my assistant, Jenny. 

She shot me a knowing glance and looking up, I saw all eyes were glued on me. That was when I remembered I was in a meeting. 

I had totally forgotten myself and gotten lost in my thoughts. They had already finished pitching and wanted me to give my opinion but I was already far gone. 

“Uhm… uhm…” I tried to come up with something but I was all blank. I turned to Jenny for help and she immediately got the hint. 

She cleared her throat gently and then stepped in. She did a good job and that made me a bit calm, but I became too relaxed and was soon lost in thoughts again. 

“Nic!” She tapped me again and that was when I jerked back again. 

I looked up and then the conference room was empty. It was just the two of us left.

“Are you sure you’re okay? This is so unlike you.” She let out while looking me in the eyes, trying to observe me.

“I’m okay, I was up really late last night and I think that’s why I’m so tired. I just need to rest and I’ll be all good as new.” I chimed in but she wasn’t too convinced.

“I don’t think this is just a case of a late night but if you insist, then there’s no problem. Just make sure you rest once you get home… please.” She replied and I nodded. 

I stood up but then felt a deep wave of weakness surge through me. I shook it off and then made my way to my office. 

Jenny was walking closely behind me but then rushed forward to get the door. The moment I stepped in, I felt the weakness again and this time, it was so hard that I couldn’t resist it. 

I suddenly felt weak and before I knew it, I saw myself losing control and falling. I heard as my body landed hard on the ground with a loud bang but I felt nothing. 

I didn’t even understand what was happening and before I could process it, I found myself on the couch. I looked around and saw Jenny with with one other staff standing over me, looking so worried.

“What just happened?” I let out with fear and then tried to stand but they both held me back.

“No, don’t stand up. You just passed out now. I’ve asked the driver to bring the car around. We are going to the hospital right now!” She said firmly while I chuckled. 

“No, I’m not going to the hospital. There’s nothing wrong with me. I already told you that I only need to rest.” I let out.

“No, Nicole! No! Absolutely not! I’m not going to watch you harm yourself. There’s clearly something wrong with you and we need to get it checked. We are going to the hospital and there’s nothing you can say to change my mind.” She insisted and maybe I’d have agreed to go if I hadn’t know what was really wrong with me. 

“Trust me, Jenny, I know you’re concerned and I’m thankful for that but I’m okay, I promise you. I just need to rest.” I explained.

“Okay then, you’re going home right now. The driver will take you home and if you need anything at all, call me immediately. I’ll be there before you even know it.” She said and I nodded. 

They both helped me up and I dismissed the other guy while Jenny saw me off to the car. I didn’t want her to hold me so others at the office wouldn’t notice. I managed to get into the car, but before I closed the door, Jenny looked at me one more time and then took my phone. 

“I’m calling Kate. I’m not okay leaving you all alone at home.” She let out and before I could stop her, she was already on the call.  

She told Kate all about what happened and made her promise to meet me at home immediately. She gave the phone back to me afterward and then ordered the driver to leave. 

I didn’t even say a thing. I just sat there and watched the whole thing unfold. The last person I wanted to see right now was Kate, and if only Jenny knows that she’s the one behind my sudden weakness, she would have never called her. 

We got home and it was barely ten minutes later, that Kate arrived. She rushed towards me and pulled me into a deep hug. 

“Oh my love, Jenny said you’re not feeling well. How are you now?” She asked with so much worry written all over her face, and I couldn’t figure if it was genuine or not. 

One look at her, and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I couldn’t just believe that just yesterday, she was in bed with my man and she’s now all over me, pretending like she cares. 

“I think I’m better now,” I forced myself to reply.

“Are you sure? You don’t look okay at all. Does Will know about this though? Why isn’t he here already?” She asked and I smiled. 

“That’s because he’s not aware, Kate. I only called you.” I replied.

“Why?” She exclaimed.

“He’s the reason I’m sick, Kate.” I let out and then paused to observe her reaction and I couldn’t believe her audacity to pretend to be confused. 

“How dare you Kate? You’re so disgusting! I can’t believe you’re staring in my eyes right now and pretending to know nothing about this when just yesterday, you were riding his fuvking dick!!” I yelled…
