I yanked off my robe the moment I heard footsteps, and then jumped on the bed, making sure I was looking like his favorite snack.

“Hey baby…” I let out slowly while signaling him to come over.

“Get over here!” I ordered.

His face said a different thing, but he still came over. I didn’t wait, I pushed him over and started kissing him. I started slowly before increasing the pace, but once I tried to reach into his pants, he stopped me.

I moaned in his mouth and tried again, but he held my hands, and before I could react, he’d pushed me over and was out of bed.

“What’s happening? Why did you stop me?” I quizzed.

“I’m really tired, can we do that later?”

“But it’s our anniversary and this is just the first surprise. I’ve booked us the whole night at a fancy hotel. You’re going to love it, trust me… I…”

“I had a really busy day at work, Nicole. What I need right now is a warm shower and sleep. Let’s do this later, huh?” He cut in, leaned in to kiss my cheek and then disappeared into the bathroom.

I sat there on the bed and watched till the door closed. I couldn’t even understand the sudden attitude. I had looked forward to this night for weeks, bought sexy lingerie, went for waxing, and even learned a few styles, all just to make the night satisfying… but here I was, naked and disappointed.

I was still at this when his phone started to beep. I was going to ignore it at first, but after the third time, I got curious and picked it up.

I swiped it open and the first thing I saw was “I miss those sexy lips, my legs still hurt from last night.”

My hands started to shake at that point, and the heat came from nowhere, but I didn’t stop. I read further, and each one was naughtier than the last.

“I still taste you on my fingers. I wish you could fill my mouth again. Last night wasn’t enough.”

“Your girl planned something fancy tonight. Be fast. I’m dripping.”

“Don’t keep me waiting, I need you.”

I was so livid and my first thought was to call Kate, my best friend. It all felt like a dream and I needed someone to wake me up.

Just before I pressed the dial button, another text came in and this time, it was a picture. A nude picture with the face cropped out.

I stared hard at those sexy legs, popping belly button, and then the perky bo*bs, and that was when I saw it.

The necklace. It had a pendant with the initials KN. That could only belong to one person. Kate! And I know this because I’ve got the necklace too.

We both had it customized at our prom in high school. It was a symbol of our friendship, and a commitment to the future. We’ve worn it since then.

Panic shot through me and I didn’t even realize I was crying until a tear splashed on the screen. I quickly wiped it off once I heard the shower stop.

I returned the phone, got back in bed and pulled the blanket to my chest, pretending like nothing had happened while my heart pounded so loudly I could hear it.

Will walked out in a towel, picked up his phone and casually scrolled through as he dried his hair. I knew he was reading the texts when his face changed. He was trying so hard to hide the excitement, as he tossed the towel and started dressing.

“Where are you going?” I asked, sitting up.

“The office, I need to pick up a file. I forgot it and need it for a meeting tomorrow.” He replied, but I knew it was a lie. He was going to meet Kate.

“I promise to make it up to you when I’m back,” he said as he quickly came over to press a lazy kiss on my cheek again before hurrying out.

I waited till his car was out of the compound before I hurried downstairs, got in my car, and followed him.

Of course, I know what I saw, but I just wanted to see things for myself. I didn’t even know what I was expecting. Maybe closure? Confirmation? Or proof that I wasn’t crazy? Well, I got all three.

I made sure to stay at a distance so he doesn’t suspect, and finally he pulled into the hotel.

The same hotel where I booked for our special night. Only Kate knew because she was aware of my plans, so she definitely knew what she was doing. She intentionally pulled my man from my side tonight to hurt me.

The elevator opened and there they were, making out shamelessly outside the room. They couldn’t even wait to enter. Kate was pinned to the door, her arms and legs wrapped around Will. He fondled her bo*bs while kissing her wildly.

In an instant, I felt blood drain from my face as I became dizzy. My eyes went dark and I almost passed out. But then, someone held me from behind.

“Are you alright?” He asked and helped me back to my feet.

“Yes, I’m fine. I… I just need to get to my car, please,” I replied.

“Let’s get you to your car then,” he said, and then slowly walked me out.

“Thank you,” I retorted, and that was when I got a good look at his face, but he didn’t wait. He just nodded and was gone in a second.

I started the car and zoomed off. Throughout the drive, I fought with different thoughts. I kept thinking about everything that had happened in the last hour. And I just couldn’t understand why Kate or Will would betray me like that.

I met Kate in high school. She was the poor kid who got into an expensive high school through a scholarship and got bullied because of it. We never really talked until one day when I saw her working on an art project. It was so lovely, and I immediately took a liking to her. My mom was a painter, so that fueled my interest even more. We became friends and after hearing her sad poor story, I convinced my dad to let her move in with us. From that moment, Kate had everything provided for her, and the bullying stopped since she had leveled up.

As for Will, the first day we met was on Valentine's night three years ago. Kate and I, both being singles, had gone out and were having fun when the handsome Will approached us. Kate was rude to him and quickly dismissed him. But I was so hooked. He looked so hot and the moment he opened his mouth to drop those subtle flirty lines, I knew I wanted him. We exchanged numbers and in another month, we were dating. Kate wasn’t in support because she still disliked him and I had to step in and make them become friends.

“How the hell do people go from being enemies to lovers?” I thought to myself as I pulled into the house.

I went upstairs into the room, and stood there in silence. I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream. I just kept picturing it. The way he held her and kissed her passionately while she moaned his name. To think I was stripping for him just minutes before and he wouldn’t even look at me.

The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I needed to let out the anger. It was building too fast inside of me. The big vase in the corner was the first thing my eyes landed on. I pulled it up with all my strength and released it.

It came crashing on the floor and I felt a piece of my sanity come back. It felt good and I wanted more. I trashed everything, our picture frames, his shirts, and every other thing that I could lay my hands on. I went on till everywhere and even myself was a mess.

I then crashed in the mess and burst into tears, with no one to console me. Some minutes later, the door opened and Will walked in. He was shocked to see the mess and quickly rushed over.

“Babe?! What the hell happened here? Are you hurt?!” He asked as he knelt beside me, grabbing my wrist.

My anger welled up again, and I pushed him away, and then jumped up.

“Don’t you even dare touch me, you lying cheating bastard!” I yelled at him.

“Babe, what are you saying right now?”

“You’re cheating on me, Will!” I cut in.

“What? Where is this coming from?”

“Don’t insult me, Will. Just f*cking admit it!” I yelled angrily.

“What? What are you even saying? I told you that I went to…”

“Went to f*ck another woman! My…” I cut in sharply but then stopped when he went on a knee and took out a small black box. He opened it and a shining diamond ring stared me in the eyes.

“Earlier when I said I was going to the office to get a file. I actually went to get this.”

“Nicole Lancaster, will you make me the happiest man on earth tonight on our anniversary, and marry me?”

For a second there, I thought I was dreaming. I couldn’t even say a word. I just stood there and stared at him, still on his knees and holding the ring.

“Babe?” His voice was what brought me back to reality.

I wasn’t dreaming. Will was actually proposing to me, and just after I watched him f*ck my best friend.

“I know this looks off, but trust me, I mean every word. I have been planning this for a while. Which is why I’ve been too busy lately.”

“I’m not cheating on you, I would never do such. From the moment I set my eyes on you at that bar three years ago, it has been only you. And I want that to be forever. That is why I’m doing this right now.”

“Will you marry me?” He asked again with a broad smile.

I still couldn’t say a thing. I couldn’t believe how much of a fool he took me for. If he had said all those sweet words two hours ago, I would have gobbled them right up. Will was my everything, he could never do any wrong in my eyes. If I hadn’t seen things for myself, I would never have believed he was cheating. That was how much I thought he loved me. I had no idea I was just a naive fool to him.

Seeing as he tried to fool me again, I made up my mind to deal with him. Of course, the proposal wasn’t genuine and there was only one way to find out his true intentions...
