Chapter 4

The crowd erupted into an uproar, and when Klaid's father, Victor, the Alpha of the Moonlight Pack, had a close view of the man standing before him, he stumbled on his legs.

“Are you… Dareon, son of Dameon?” He choked.

“Long time no see.” He began, “How are you doing, uncle?”

With their brief conversation, Dareon’s family history came to light. He was Alpha Victor’s nephew. His father had failed to find a silver wolf as his match and transformed into a laughing stock.

In shame, he killed himself so that no one could see him in such a disordered condition. The same night, his mate silently left the pack and gave birth to Dareon.

Dameon’s mate was a distant cousin of the royal pack who didn't have an heir to inherit the vast estate. So, they took them in to declare Dareon as their sole heir.

Listening to all this, Klaid rushed to my side. He grabbed me by my elbow and dragged me away. “Katherine, you don't have to mate with him just to make me jealous! He is just a bastard. The day the royals have their own heir, he will be thrown on the street.”

“I’m the sole heir of my pack. If you agree to what I offered you earlier, I’ll treat you better in the future.”

I pulled my hands off his grip and spat, "I used to think you just lacked a filter, but clearly, your brain and your bowels have swapped functions. Move aside; your stupidity is delaying my schedule.”

In rage, he barked, “Fine! The day you and your bastard mate get kicked out of the loyalty, I’ll hunt both of you down. By that time, you will not only be serving me but my entire warriors.”

I smiled. "You'd better focus on surviving tonight first.”

Out of pity, I turned to Alpha Victor as I said, “I hope you have more relatives, Alpha Victor, or else your pack's survival is at stake since Klaid just mentioned he is the sole heir to the pack!”

With that, I shot a short glance at Klaid as if bidding a dead man. Mia couldn't restrain herself and spat, “We both are silver wolves, sister. But you are making it look like only you possess its power. Since you are so confident about it, let's make a bet. If I can save Klaid, you will kowtow to our parents a hundred times and move out of the entire Kingdom, never showing your face to us again.”

I smiled back, “Sure, let's see who saves whom!”

With that, I grabbed Dareon's hands and moved out gracefully.

After we completed our ceremonies, we both went to the den provided for newly mated couples. The guests should have returned and left the couple alone. But after a high-stakes drama, everyone chose to stay– to see what happens after midnight.

To provoke me, Mia posted two pictures on our Pack’s chatbox. One contained the scroll of my parents discarding my bond with the pack, declaring me a rogue wolf, and the other scroll contained a scroll of their fortune transfer to Mia, declaring her their only daughter. She also added, “I hope my sister doesn't get furious about this. She should have seen it coming the moment she tried to seduce my man!”

“What's going on?” A soft touch to my shoulder pulled me back.

“Love, I just lost my pack!” I said, my voice containing no sense of grief. In return, Dareon pulled me in his embrace, “Don't worry, I’ll give you the whole kingdom instead!”

With that, he pulled me up in his arms as he gently placed me in our mating bedding, decorated with red and white roses.

When the bell rang at midnight, I held his hands tightly and broke his curse. He kissed my cheeks and promised me his life in return.

But things didn't go quite well in our next chamber. Sounds of panic and desperate attempts echoed.

Soon after, our door was being knocked aggressively.

“I’m sorry, Katherine! I misunderstood you. Please save me…”

Another voice followed, laced with terrifying shock and fear, “AlphA Klaid… is that you? Your appearance… oh my god!”
