Mateo’s POV

I could no longer hear the hum of the heater anymore.

It was still there, I was conscious of that at least, it was low, constant and filled up the silence, but after Asher walked out, the sound seemed swallowed up by something louder inside my own head.

My pulse racing, my thoughts feeling and his voice which carried its aura.

That annoying yet calm and deliberate voice.

“You have got a problem, Mateo.”

I gripped my phone so tightly my fingers ached. The smooth glass pressed against my palm, grounding me, but only barely. My mouth was dry, my chest tight like someone had wound a belt around my ribs and pulled until it hurt to breathe.

It was not the first time someone had tried to threaten me. I had heard people talk big before, thinking they could intimidate me. But this… this was not an empty one.

He knew.

And the worst part? He was not bluffing.

I knew the difference between posturing and certainty. Asher wasn’t the type to throw out a threat unless he could deliver.

  • He Is Mine   CHAPTER 153

Asher’s POVThe mask came away in my grip with a wet tear, and before the wolf beneath could even react, my fist connected with his face once more. The impact jolted up my arm, bone meeting bone, and his head snapped to the side with a spray of blood. I staggered back, chest rising up and down, vision narrowed to a red haze, and then I saw him.His face. The moonlight filtered through the trees, spilling across features I recognized too well. The sharp cheekbones, the eyes burning with feral hunger, the same cruel smirk I had glimpsed once before at Dowell. My stomach turned. My worst suspicion was carved into flesh right in front of me.“You,” I whispered, my voice a rasp of disbelief and fury. His lips curled, a low laugh bubbling from his chest despite the blood dripping down his chin. “Finally caught on, have you?”It was not random. It was never random. They had not just stumbled upon us by chance. Every strike, every shadow, every step had been planned. Jake’s death was not

  • He Is Mine   CHAPTER 152

Asher’s POVI had seen blood before, been in many situations that saw me witness a lot of blood pouring out of one person, but nothing prepared me for the sight of Jake falling. Just about three seconds ago, he was by my side, his teeth bared with claws flashing, his roar echoing through the night, the next moment, he shoved me out the way and a wolf’s strike tore through his chest, and he staggered back with a sound that would haunt me forever. His body crumpled onto the ground, his breath rattling as blood poured out of his chest and mouth, staining the floor beneath us, his blood had spilled across it due to the severity of the tear. “No, Jake!” My voice cracked. My legs moved on instinct, dropping directly beside him. I pressed my hands against the wound trying to stop the bleeding as best I could, but my palms were useless here, slick with his blood as it spilled between my fingers. His eyes, wide with pain, found mine. He tried to speak, his lips shaking and still blood fil

  • He Is Mine   CHAPTER 151

Asher’s POVThere was no point going after Dante, I just hoped no one had been following him throughout these visits.A part of me was glad he finally knew the truth, another part of me was grievous cause that could mean absolutely destruction. I watched him go, just when I was about to close the cabin door, the night split open. The sounds came first, branches snapping, leaves being stepped on, heavy paws pounding against the earth. My body went rigid before my mind even caught up, instincts screaming danger. Then the shadows from the corner of my eyes came alive. Figures burst from the treeline, they wore masks, their movements impossibly fast, sharper than anything human. Their eyes glinted through the slits in their masks, predatory and merciless. The air itself seemed to recoil as they fanned out, encircling, their snarls ripping through the quiet like a chorus of nightmares. Those were werewolves, not just random rogues, I knew those guys.Even masked, even cloaked in shadow,

  • He Is Mine   CHAPTER 150

Dante’s POVI tried to behave like I was not panicking on the inside, but my composure failed me as I stood there with Asher. I could not stop thinking about the word and how casually Jake had said it. Mate. What a nasty joke that was that he made, but instead of laughing, it got me into a state of paranoia. It was not just a word, it was a curse, a chain, or could I say it was a heavy death sentence wrapped in something deceptively simple. Maybe for werewolves, it was simple, but for me….. I felt it sinking deep, rooting into every corner of me, until it was impossible to think of anything else.My breathe became uneven and my chest suddenly felt heavier than it should. My lungs burned, I could feel the cabin walls begin to close in, pressing down on me like they wanted to suffocate me. I had to get out and catch my breathe. I staggered back, shaking my head violently. “No… no, no, no. Don’t say that. Don’t be that.”Asher’s eyes widened, his lips trembling like he wanted to say

  • He Is Mine   CHAPTER 149

Dante’s POV The fire crackled low in the corner of the cabin, shadows dancing across the rough wooden walls. I sat slouched in the chair, trying not to make it too obvious that I was watching Asher. Every evening I came here I told myself I wouldn’t stare at him like some lovesick fool, but my eyes constantly betrayed me.It was the only time in my day when I could breathe. At school, I pretended, masking my feelings behind half-hearted smiles and shallow conversations. But here, with him, even in silence, I felt whole again.Jake, Asher’s friend, the one keeping him hidden, was stretched out across the floor. He was casual in a way that grated at me sometimes, too easy with his jokes and too careless with his words. He did not understand the weight of what Asher meant to me, the way his presence held together the fragile remains of my sanity. And then it happened.Jake chuckled, tossing a peanut into his mouth. He flicked his gaze between us and smirked.“You two act like old marr

  • He Is Mine   CHAPTER 148

Dante’s POVThat first day felt like a dream I couldn’t wake from. After the initial explosion of silence, anger, and confessions, we sat across from each other at the rickety wooden table in the cabin.Neither of us spoke at first. His fingers drummed lightly against the table, my hands stayed clenched in my lap, literally gripping it. I could not stop staring at him. After all the sleepless nights imagining this moment, the reality was overwhelming. Finally, I cleared my throat, my voice breaking the silence like glass. “Don’t you ever…” I stuttered, my throat burning, “don’t you ever do that to me again.”He lifted his eyes, sharp and wary, but softened almost instantly. He just exhaled, a shaky sound, and for a moment I saw something raw flicker in his eyes, guilt, regret, maybe even relief.“You don’t understand,” he said quietly. “It isn’t about what I want. It’s about what’s safe. If they see you here, if they even suspect, everything falls apart.”I shook my head furiously. “
