LOGINTristan's POV
"I think our plan was very bad," I said. "The wedding is in five days and everything has been arranged. How do we explain what happened to her?" I asked Ivy, who sat on the bed, looking far less concerned than I felt. I stared at her, confused. "We just have to tell the elders she ran away with her lover, and provide evidence," Ivy said. "Which evidence are we going to provide?" I asked. "Don't worry, I'll take care of that. The story is simple. She ran away with a Beta she's been seeing for some time. Even if someone finds her body by the road, we'll claim the person she ran away with was the one who killed her instead. I'll replace her in the wedding. The elders can't risk the wedding not happening," Ivy said with a smile, before placing a kiss on my lips. I smiled softly. "You're more ruthless than I thought," I said. "I learned it from you," she replied, before kissing me again. The next morning, news of Genevieve's disappearance spread across the pack. By midday, the pack elders called an emergency meeting. I sat at the long table, Ivy beside me, a folder of papers resting in front of her. Across the table sat Elder Varek, Genevieve's father, one of the pack's senior elders, his face tight with worry. "Tristan, where is your bride?" Elder Corwin asked, his voice sharp. "The wedding is in a matter of days." I lifted my head slowly. "I don't know," I said, my voice cracking. "I woke up this morning and she was gone. I've sent people out searching since dawn, but no one has found her." The elders turned to Ivy. "Do you know anything about your sister's whereabouts?" one of them asked. Ivy lowered her eyes before answering. "I didn't want to say anything. I kept hoping she'd come back on her own," she said, her voice trembling. "But I found these in her room last night." She slid the folder across the table. Inside were letters, written in handwriting that matched Genevieve's perfectly, each one addressed to a name none of them recognized. Ivy had spent hours practicing the curve of her sister's letters, copying old notes Genevieve had left lying around the house. "I'm sorry, Tristan. I know how much you love her, but I can't keep lying for her anymore," Ivy said, wiping at her eyes. "She's been seeing someone else. A Beta from the eastern pack. She didn't want to marry you. She told me herself weeks ago, and I begged her to tell you the truth instead of running." I buried my face in my hands, my shoulders shaking. "I don't understand," I said. "I gave her everything." Elder Varek read through the letters, his hands shaking harder now, his face pale. "This is a disgrace," he said quietly. "Alphas from other packs are already arriving for this wedding. Families we have spent years building alliances with. And now my own daughter has humiliated us all in front of them." "I'm sorry, Father," Ivy whispered. Elder Varek set the letters down and looked at me for a long moment, his eyes heavy with something between grief and desperation. "Tristan, I know this isn't what any of us wanted," he said. "But the wedding cannot be canceled, not with half the region already on their way here. I am asking you, as her father, to consider taking Ivy in her place." The table fell silent. I kept my head down, careful to let my silence look like shock rather than relief. "Please," he continued, his voice breaking slightly. "I know I have no right to ask this of you after what my daughter has done, but she is family. She has stood by this pack for years, and I cannot bear the shame of turning away every Alpha who arrives at our gates expecting a wedding." Ivy shook her head quickly. "Father, no," she said. "I couldn't do that to Genevieve. This was her wedding, her place. Let me go look for her myself. I'm sure if I find her, I can bring her back before anyone else needs to know." "There isn't time for that," Elder Corwin said. "The wedding is in days, not weeks." Elder Varek reached across the table and took Ivy's hand. "Please, Ivy," he said. "For this family. For your sister's sake, so her absence doesn't become the story every pack tells about us for years to come." Ivy lowered her eyes again, letting a long pause settle over the room before she finally spoke. "If this is truly what everyone believes is best, then I won't refuse my family," she said softly. Elder Corwin nodded firmly. "Then it's decided. Ivy will stand in her sister's place as Tristan's bride." No one at the table argued. A knock interrupted the meeting. A messenger stepped inside, bowing before Elder Corwin. "A message from Alpha Thorne," he said, holding out a folded letter. Elder Corwin opened it and read it aloud. "Alpha Thorne wishes to announce he will be remarrying, and requests the ceremony take place on the same day as his son's wedding, so the pack may celebrate both unions together." The room fell into murmurs of surprise at the sudden news, and at who the bride might be. I sat back in my chair, a slow smile spreading across my face that I quickly tried to mask as disbelief. "That's wonderful news," I said. "Truly perfect timing." Ivy glanced at me sideways, catching the look in my eyes, the one only she could read. It truly is perfect, I thought to myself, lowering my head again to hide my smile. Because it will be his deathday too.Genevieve's POVI sat in front of the dressing mirror as the maids did their job, their soft hands moving quickly around my hair and shoulders. Thorne was the one who had specifically picked out my outfit tonight. He sat by the window making a call, and I couldn't understand what they were talking about, his voice low and clipped. The jewelry and outfit felt so heavy against my skin. The only time I had worn something like this was on my wedding day. The gown was purple, trimmed with silver accessories that glittered under the lamplight."Isn't this outfit a bit too extra? It's not like I'm the center of attraction," I said with an eye roll, after Thorne dropped his call.Thorne chuckled softly. "Too bad, that's what I want you to be, the center of attraction. Everyone should understand why you're the Alpha's favorite wife," he said.I nearly laughed, and would have if not for the maids around us. Alpha's favorite wife, my foot. It's more like Alpha's favorite pet, I thought."Don't y
Genevieve's POVThe day of the coronation had finally arrived. My heart was beating so loudly that I was sure the whole room could hear it. I had already made all the plans with Sarah. Once Thorne was busy enough, I would slip away. But it felt like he had decided to stick to me today. He lounged on the armchair near the window, one leg crossed over the other, still dressed in his simple clothes, while soft morning light spilled across the carpet."Why aren't you getting dressed for the ceremony?" I asked."It won't take me thirty minutes to dress up, unlike you, who's still not dressed and would probably take hours. Don't tell me you expect them to wait for you?" he said."Don't worry, Alpha, I'll be there on time," I said, forcing a calm smile. He made to say something, but his phone rang, cutting him off."I'll be right there," he said, before hanging up. "Get dressed, Angel. I'll come pick you up once you're done."I nodded as he walked out of the door, and the room fell silent be
Genevieve's POVI glanced at him from the corner of my eye, at the calm, unreadable line of his face. I knew Thorne knew something, but he just didn't want to tell me."Why are you staring at me? Is it because you find me too attractive that you can't keep your eyes away from me?" he asked.I rolled my eyes, forcing my gaze to look straight ahead. The corridor stretched long and quiet before us, lit by tall lamps that cast our shadows across the walls."Don't be so full of yourself, Alpha," I replied. He chuckled."Alpha, who do you think is responsible for tonight's scheme?" I asked."What would you offer me if I tell you?" he asked."I have nothing other than myself, while you have everything. What could you possibly want from me?" I asked."Your blood, Angel," he said.I stopped in my tracks to look at him, but he kept on walking."At this rate, just tell me you want to suck me dry," I said, hurrying to catch up with him."Who do you suggest was behind it?" he asked."Ivy or Trista
Genevieve's POV"Please spare me," the maid pleaded, tears streaming down her face. "Lady Genevieve threatened me with my family.""Guards, seize that witch!" Elder Corwin shouted. My mind went blank for a moment. I didn't have time to process what was happening, everything had moved so fast that I was completely confused. The whole hall seemed to tilt around me, every eye turned in my direction, hot and accusing. The guards moved closer to me, their armor clinking against the marble, but Thorne immediately stood in front of me."Did I give you permission to lay a hand on her?" he asked. The guards immediately shifted back, their faces pale."Your majesty, the maid here already confirmed that it was Lady Genevieve who told her to poison the princess. Which makes it understandable why she would do something like that," Elder Corwin said."The maid is one of her own handmaids," Elder Kane added."She might be one of my handmaids, but I never gave her any poison," I said, trying to defen
Genevieve's POVAfter taking my bath, I decided to take a walk to clear my head. The warm water had loosened my muscles, but my thoughts were still tangled. Thorne hadn't been back, not that I was interested in him coming back. For the next few days, I would have to avoid him as much as I could. When it was finally over, I would be gone for good.I dragged my feet across the hallway, where the evening light slanted through the tall windows and laid long golden stripes over the marble floor, when someone blocked my path.It was the princess."Your highness," I greeted, bowing softly. She let out a smile, which made me feel very confused, because I didn't know when we had become so close."The palace is quite huge. I'd love to take a tour around it. I hope you won't mind showing me around," she said.I gave her a polite smile. "I'm sorry, Princess Zarina, but I barely know the palace too. You could ask the maids to accompany you," I said, rejecting her in the most polite way possible, t
Genevieve's POV"I need your help, Sarah," I said."What could you possibly need someone like me to help you with, when you're married to the Alpha?" she asked."I'm not in the mood to joke. Tell me, how can I make it out of here, and is there a place to stay that the Alpha can't find?"I knew this was stupid, but if there was someone I knew who had a lot of connections elsewhere, that person had to be Sarah. My fingers tightened around the phone as I listened for any footsteps outside the door.I only married him for revenge, but since he can't offer me what I want, I'm not going to stay by his side and play his sweet lover. I once did that with Tristan, and in the end he killed me without mercy. Thorne can't be any different from him. He saved my life, yes, but I can't stay here waiting for the day he gets bored of me and tosses me away, because sooner or later I'll be alone, and that would give Tristan and Ivy the perfect opportunity to ruin me, I thought, my chest tightening painf
