Neighbors

The next morning the dinner table was quite peaceful as everyone focused on their breakfast. 

Carmen took a bite into her beacon before dropping the rest on the plate. Then she gazed up at her parents' faces.

“What is it?” Mr. Smith asked when he noticed his daughter staring at him.

“I am moving out,” Carmen mumbled.

Mrs. Smith immediately started aggressively coughing after choking on the water that she was drinking.

“Mother!” Carmen cried.

“I am fine.” Mrs. Smith mumbled while gently patting her chest.

Mr. Wilson's eyes appeared sad when he looked at his granddaughter, but she already had her mind made up. And even though she felt some pity towards her grandfather, she wasn't planning on changing her plans.

“Why, kiddo? This house is yours as much as it's ours.” Mr. Wilson pitifully said.

“I know, grandi. But I want to start fresh and feel a bit of independence while doing so.” Carmen softly said.
