Adam POV “Because she is our future,” the rogue replied. “What the hell does that mean?” I yell at him as my warriors bound through the trees to stand beside me. The three rogues shift and turn to run off as my warriors chase after them. They are still on our territory, so I jump into the run and try to snag one of the rogues. One leaps off our territory and takes off before we can catch him, but the remaining two are caught. One fights with our two warriors who captured him. Unfortunately, his attack warrants a lethal counterattack, and he is fatally wounded. The other is wounded but will heal on his own. We take the captured rogue to our holding cells for Sam and me to question. I make my way back to the Pack house as the remaining warriors dispose of the dead rogue’s body. I grab a pair of basketball shorts and run into the Pack house to grab a quick shower and change into fresh clothes before heading toward our holding cells. I can s
Jenna POV The expletives that ensued after I shared the end goal with the guys made the air blue. “Absolutely not; you are not leaving this Pack again Jenna, until we neutralize the threat,” Adam says. Sam and Jack nod in agreement. I sigh, “Guys, that is why you are trying to figure it all out, to ensure nothing happens,” I say to them. “Red, we cannot guarantee your safety unless we keep you on Pack lands,” Adam says to me adamantly. Looking at Sam and Jack he continues, “We need to postpone the Luna ceremony. We cannot have random Packs entering our territory for the event,” he says. Sam and Jack again nod in agreement to my annoyance. “I am starting work at the hospital tomorrow. I will have a guard; you will have to deal with that. I cannot back out now without causing too much fuss and drawing further attention to us,” I explain to them logically. “We need more than one warrior on duty,” Jack mutters. Adam agrees while Sam asks, “H
Jenna POV The past week had been amazing. Doctor Matthews is an incredible doctor and mentor. My first week with patients was equally incredible. I was forming bonds with people under my care. I was able to use my healing powers a couple of times, which managed to save the patients having to undergo surgery that would have taken weeks to heal from. I also had time to spend on my Luna duties. We spent the week preparing for those Packs who would be arriving for the Luna ceremony. We only had two of the eight Packs decline their invitations. Nobody had been overtly curious about the rogue problem, and it was frustrating Adam. He was hoping that someone would wave a flag and indicate they were the Pack working with the rogues. I understood his frustration and I admit I was anxious about the upcoming ceremony, but I had so much to focus on. From my work at the hospital, to the planning of the ceremony to ensuring everything was in order – I had a full plate. And I
Adam POV I was enraged when I saw Jenna’s destroyed gown. I was devastated to see the destruction on her face. The tears she was not holding back while looking at her dress. Mind-linking Sam, “Find out who did this,” I command him. I hear his agreement as he breaks our link. Turning towards Jenna, I pull her into my arms, rocking her as she wipes her tears. Sniffling, she steps back, “This will not stop me,” she says adamantly. I look at her confused. How could we continue not knowing who or what the threat was? “I have another dress I can wear. It is not as perfect as this one was, but I will not let this stop me celebrating being Luna of this Pack,” Jenna says. I slowly smile at her. She is right. Not having the ceremony would fall right into the desire of whoever did this. Whoever did this would pay; however, for now, the show must go on as they say. “Are you sure?” I ask her as her parents also look at her concerned. We knew ther
Adam POV “What do you mean she’s gone?” I yell at a passed-out Stan. Sam grabs my arm as Jack mind-links the Pack doctor to come quickly. Doctor Rivers was already at the ceremony, so he was only footsteps away. They carried Stan over to the Pack hospital with instructions to notify us immediately when he was awake. Running up the stairs to Jenna’s room, I do not see that a big fight took place. I do find Tim already looking around, which I find odd. “What are you doing here?” I demand of him. “I saw Stan was knocked out, I stopped to help him when he told me to come check on the Luna,” he says while he continues looking around. “Have you found anything? Any evidence?” I ask him as Sam looks around also suspicious of Tim. “No, there is no scent of anyone else having been here,” he says before he turns to look at both of us. “Do you think she changed her mind?” Tim asks me. I move forward grabbing the collar of his jacket, “You are joking
Adam POV Having left Stan’s room, Sam and I meet up with Jack and head to my office. As we enter the Pack house, Jenna’s father is waiting in the lobby for me. “I may have someone we can talk with,” he says as he follows us to my office. “Get them here now,” I reply to him. “It is not that easy, Adam; they know there is bad blood between the witches and the Red Pine Pack,” he shares. “I do not care about any of that. My mate is missing, get someone here as soon as possible!” I yell at him. I cannot stand any more of this nonsense. This is not about supernatural politics; this was about my missing mate. Nothing else matters but getting her back. “I will do what I can,” he replies before leaving the room. Looking to Sam and Jack I see their sympathy. I do not want their sympathy. I do not want anyone’s sympathy. I want my mate. “Stop looking at me like that; we will find her,” I say to both of them. “We will find her, Adam; we just nee
Jenna POV Splash! Sputtering, I am coughing trying to catch my breath. “Wakey, wakey, Jenna; it is time for you to wake up,” the male voice says. I slowly open my eyes trying to focus. How long had I been out? Where was I? Was Adam looking for me? Were my parents? My mind was racing as I tried to figure out what was happening, when another splash of water hit my face. Choking, I sit up, realizing I am still in a bed with one hand now cuffed to the bed. I could sit up which was more than I could do when I first arrived. “There she is - my beautiful soon to be mate,” the voice says. I strain my neck trying to see who is standing off in the shadows. “Come forward you coward,” I say to him. My mind is trying to remember what happened. I had been knocked out. I recognized the person but now my mind was blissfully ignorant of everything. I did a check of my body. Nothing was out of sorts aside from the amount of wolfsbane and silver in m
Adam POV It had been a fucking week since Jenna had been taken. We had gotten very little from Tim, even with the torture Sam had been administering. I was just entering the dungeon area, we had moved Tim from his holding cell midweek, when Tim suddenly screamed in agony. It was from nothing Sam had done to him. Looking at Sam I am confused with what I am seeing. Sam moves toward Tim pulling him to stand back up, when Tim doubles over once again in pain. “What the hell is going on?” I ask Sam. “The only time I have seen something like that is when a fated mate dies,” he replies. Looking at Tim, I move closer to him, “Is that what is happening, Tim? The tether is snapping from your bond?” I taunt him. Now he would have a sense of what it was like to lose your mate. Jenna was not dead, but it felt like death to me with her missing. “It is not possible. He promised we would have a life, if we did what he asked,” Tim replies gasping for air
