LOGINIt's been 24 hours since I stepped into my flawless prison. For anyone else, it would be a dream come true....finding your true soulmate, living with him in his pack but it was not my story. My soulmate would not glance in my direction, he would not step inside the room if he felt my presence.
He would rather share his time with his future luna, I never thought I would envy someone I had never met.
Bernadette tried her best to spend time with me, she tried to make me talk about anything but I was not ready to open my heart to anyone again. It was not needed, I was just a guest here who would leave in a matter of days.
I stared at the dark screen of my phone, it was useless. I was pretending everything was fine in front of Eleanor. She did not need anything else on her plate right now, being a Queen was already taking a lot out of her.
Slowly, I closed my eyes letting sleep overtake my senses as I slept alone on the cold bed.
I stood bare feet on barren land, my feet touched the hard soil with tiny stones poking my skin. I looked around and realized it was not the weirdest part about the place.
Two lifeless trees stood alone on either side of the empty ground. Grey clouds covered the sky like a heavy blanket shielding the place from the rays of the sun. I inhaled a sharp breath as my eyes made contact with something behind the tree.
Licking my lips, I ran my eyes around the place once again hoping to find someone to get me out of there but it was not long before I realized…..I was alone.
Gathering all my courage, I started approaching the leafless tree that had long branches spread like hands waiting to grab something.
I did not know how I got the courage to reach the pile of dirty clothes but soon, I was standing two steps away from it and that’s when I realized, it was not a pile of clothes….it was a person.
“Uh...” I did not know what to say.
Very slowly, I reached toward the face to remove the fabric. Something inside me wanted to make sure the person was okay.
My hands were shaking but I did not let that stop me.
The fabric was covered in dust and had some spots all over it, I was almost sure it was not dark in the beginning. It was making me wonder what had happened to that poor person.
With a gulp, I pulled the fabric away from the face quickly but I was not ready for what was waiting for me.
The girl had bluish-grey marks on her pale skin, it was evident life left her body a long time ago. Her eyes were closed, even then there was no peace on her face. There were scratches on her face, telling the tale of her unpleasant death. The cheeks were sunken and the cheekbones were clearly visible.
My lips did not move to make any sound as I stared at her arms which were twisted in an abnormal manner.
It was me.
I was staring at my dead body.
But how was it possible?
My breath started getting shorter and heavier.
I put a hand on my heart but not being able to look away from the deadly pale face of the corpse in front of me. I could not stand any longer but I could not move my body either.
“You are safe, love,” a deep calm voice fell into my ears, taking away all my thoughts.
I finally looked away from the body.
Alpha Orion was standing a few feet away in front of me with a cold expression on his face but his eyes held a warm look, making me feel safe.
“What is happening?”
“I will not let anything happen to you.”
He put his hand in my direction. His grey eyes never left mine for even a brief second, his brows were furrowed like always.
I was about to start walking in his direction but just then, I felt like something was wrapped around my ankle.
With confusion, I looked down.
The twisted arm was now near my feet and the bony fingers were wrapped around my ankle. But how was it possible?
With a gulp, I moved my eyes from the ankle toward the face. The eyes that were shut just a few minutes ago were now staring directly at me, they were deadly white. She opened her mouth to say something but a loud screeching voice started coming. I closed my eyes and covered my face.
I opened my eyes, to find myself sleeping on the bed. I quickly looked around not understanding a thing that was happening.
Soon I realized, it was a nightmare.
I closed my eyes and started taking some deep breaths after gulping the water that was on the table next to my bed.
I scanned the room in which I was staying, the room had light even though I was sleeping, I hated sleeping in the dark.
I was alone.
Taking another deep breath, I felt a void inside my heart. There was no place for me.
My ears reacted quickly when a small voice came from outside the room. I got out of bed and approached the door but did not open it.
I stood on my spot without moving, not even breathing loudly. There was someone’s presence outside the door, I did not have to open the door to know someone was standing on the other side of the door.
My heart started beating loudly inside my chest…was Alpha Orion outside?
I wanted to open the door immediately as the thought crossed my mind but my hand stopped once it touched the doorknob.
What was I thinking…why would he be outside this room?
Shaking my head, I did not turn the doorknob and turned around to go back to bed.
I hugged the pillow tightly between my arms and hid my face, not knowing what else to do.
I stayed like that for a very long time, until my breaths became normal once again.
Just then another sound came, it sounded like a door being closed. I lifted my face up in confusion, was someone outside?
.
.
.
“Hi,” a small muscular voice fell into my ears. I stared at the man with confusion, the man with short blonde hair and freckles on his face looked familiar. He lifted his lips upward to pass a shy smile, his brown eyes sparkled as they made contact with me.
He was the one who guided me to the previous room.
“Hi,” I responded in a small voice, looking around the room hoping Bernadette would come back fast.
“How are you?”
I did not respond at once, it was the first time someone asked how I was in this mansion.
“I am fine,” I smiled at the man, he appeared to be in his early twenties, his nose was long and thin, and his eyelashes appeared to be absent due to the light shade of his hair.
“I am Antonio.”
“I am Ruhee.”
“You are new here,” it was not a question.
I bit the inside of my cheeks before answering, what was I supposed to say, I was just a random person who got thrown into this mansion. They were curious about my identity, I remembered the girl mentioning guests. The alpha clearly did not entertain guests but it would mean that his future Luna lived here as well.
Something heavy settled in my stomach.
"That was a stupid question," Antonio gave a chuckle, touching the back of his head.
I smiled in response.
"What brought you to this pack?" He was not hiding his curiosity or the questions. I knew everyone who saw me wanted to know the answer. The place did not have many people, to begin with, only a few would come on a daily basis.
“I…uh”
He might have understood my reluctance while his eyes stayed glued to my face probably waiting for the answer, “It is fine, you don’t have to answer this.” Even though he said I did not have to answer his question, I knew he was waiting for the answer.
“Do you stay here?” I decided to change the subject.
“No,” he shook his head, “only alpha lives here and soon Luna would shift here as well.”
A sour feeling came inside my heart, “Where is your Luna right now?”
It was not my place to ask anything about her or about their relationship but I could not help before asking that question. Deep down a question was burning inside my heart, why was I here?
“She is….”
“What is going on here?”
Bernadette came before Antonio could answer my question. His head immediately turned low showing respect to her.
“I was just talking to Ruhee.”
“You can leave now,” she ordered with a serious face. Antonio did not waste another moment and left immediately.
Bernadette turned towards me, her face lightened which was the exact opposite of the expression she had earlier. I would not lie and say I was not disappointed Anotio left before he could answer the question.
“What were you talking about?” she asked as we continued walking back to the room in which I was staying.
I was not allowed to leave the house, I did not want to wander alone in this huge mansion knowing well that people would ask questions about my presence….questions I could not answer.
“Where is the Luna?” I did not try to hide the bitter feeling that the word Luna was giving inside my mouth.
“She is not our Luna, you are,” Bernadette said like it was pretty obvious.
I smiled at her, “Alpha Orion has not said a word to me, I am nothing more than an uninvited guest in his home.”
“Whaaa…what are you talking about?” she threw her hands in the air and opened the door. “Look, that guy has been going through all the bullshit life has been throwing at him alone. He had no hope of ever finding a soulmate. He is working his ass off to make sure his pack is working smoothly. Chelsea is more like a…..” she dragged the last word as she thought of the right word to use, “friend..a friend.”
I did not respond.
I had nothing to say to her, she was doing what she thought was best for her alpha. She had no idea about my side of the truth, if she knew, she would pick Chelsea’s side in a heartbeat. My focus was on what she said earlier, what happened to Alpha Orion? I knew he was an orphan, his parents died a long time ago in a pack war….just like my father. I thought it was something we both could understand about each other.
“Look, give him time. You know what, forget that, if you want, just talk to him, don’t wait for him to come and find you. You are his soulmate, you have right every right to ask him everything you want to know without any hesitation.”
I bit the inside of my cheeks while I dug my nails inside my palm.
Was she right? Maybe she was right, I had to ask him why I was here, the sooner I talk to him, the faster I could go back to my life.
“I have to go, I will talk to you later,” as usual Bernadette left in a hurry without waiting for me to ask where I should find Alpha Orion.
I guess it was time for me to finally have a conversation with Alpha Orion.
"How is he?" Rose was sitting on the stairs outside Kai's house, crushing something in a white mortar and pestle. She paused, hearing my sound. "Luna," she acknowledged my presence with a warm smile.I sat down next to her, "Can I see him?"She shook her head, "It would be best if no one meets him until he wakes up. I don't want the influence of dark magic on anyone else."I let out a breath, "When will he wake up?"It had been one day without Orion and I was feeling overwhelmed with everything. Bidding farewell to Celia and others was not easy, I had to make sure no one doubted Orion's absence. "The blue mark is fading," Rose replied as she added a palm-shaped leaf into the red paste and started mixing it. "I am sorry you had to stay here taking care of a person you have never met before."She smiled but the smile was dull compared to her other smiles, "I am helping you. My mother would have wanted this.""Where is your mother?"She hesitated and increased the motion of her hand.
Kai had returned but was unconscious.Flora was missing. The red moon had passed but the shadow moon was another mystery for me to solve. Orion was trying to find the person behind Kai's condition. Bernadette had given him details and footage of the areas around the pack, he was locked in his office trying to connect the missing strands. I let out a long breath and thought about seeing Celia."Luna," I was stopped by a voice, followed by a sound of someone colliding with something. I turned around to find Rose rubbing her knee with a scowl on her face. "Are you okay?" She immediately corrected her posture, "Yes, Luna.""I am just going to meet Aunt Celia," I informed her and waited to know if she was going in the same direction as well. She turned her head right and left to check if we were alone. "I-I need to talk to you," her words were careful. An uneasy feeling settled in my stomach. "The gamma." She stopped. I nodded giving her a sign to continue. She inhaled a deep b
The ceremony was completed 3 nights ago, we accepted each other in front of the whole pack and the pack accepted us in return with happiness For the first time, I had everything I wanted and nothing to wish for. I managed to sneak away from everyone to meet Flora, she had become a part of my life and yet I knew nothing about her. My foot steps were not slow, I was not taking my time to look at the trees and flowers on the way. I was running towards the river to greet my old friend and tell her the good news about surviving the blood moon.I finally slowed down after reaching the river and scanned the area. My smile dropped instantly, for the first time, there was no sign of Flora anywhere. "Flora?" I called out her name, which was foolish but for some reason, I thought she was nearby and could hear my voice.I waited before walking further, "Flora?"No response, just the sound of running water and birds. I decided to take a brave step and go to the other side of the river. I suc
"We can't thank you and your coven enough, Celia." Orion repeated. Celia smiled in response, "You are a part of our family now."Between the sounds of knife, fork and spoon, a sharp sigh got mixed in the dining room. I looked at Ruth, who kept cutting a piece of meat on her plate, the pieces kept increasing, but nothing was being eaten by her. She did not like me, it was not a surprise, it was understandable. Maybe she was also not sure about a stranger entering their lives. But she was my sister. They had proved their loyalty to us and now it was my turn to take a step in their direction. "But I must say, Alpha, I am not entirely happy." Silence. Bernadette and Orion shared a look, the lack of expression on their faces made it hard to read what was going on inside their head. But I knew they were thinking, were there any mistakes from their end in the arrangements for our guests?"Did we do something to upset you?" Orion was being careful with his words. Celia was too exhaust
"This is not right." My gaze kept moving between my hand, where I was feeling the faint warmth and the sky. The moon appeared normal...just like any other night. I had been feeling something in the pit of my stomach, at first I was sure it was fear....but it was not fear. It was doubt. The preparations had been made, Celia and Ruth were waiting for me where they had been staying. "Should I trust them?" The question had been bugging me ever since I returned from the forest. How could I trust anyone? I had learned from a very young age not to lower my walls for anyone...but these people were my family...my blood.Shaking my head, I put on a smile I had perfected over the years. The dagger sitting inside my jacket provided some comfort, if they did anything, I would be ready to protect my pack. ..."My dear, we have been waiting for you," Celia grabbed my hand and dragged me to stand inside a circle. Ruth did not bother to glance in my direction and continued feeding something to
The blood moon was almost above our heads. I could feel something in my body, the fear of losing people, the disappointment of letting others down, the confusion of my new identity."And that is why my dear you should always be careful with pronouncing your spells," Celia continued as she added some dry herbs into the cauldron. I smiled with a nod. She had been trying to teach me as much as she could, which meant she did not stop talking about the spells, coven, and moon. But the truth was I could not focus entirely on her words, so much was going on inside my head...I did not know if I should trust her. The boiling sound kept coming along with laughter of Celia as she told the story about 'my mother'."Dear, did you notice any signs of magic yet?" I shook my head, "Nothing so far."I knew Orion did not mention the change in eye color to anyone and I had promised Flora not to utter a word about what happened. She smiled, "It's completely fine, you might be a later bloomer."I just
