Annalise's POV

It's been two weeks since I was driven out of my husband's house. Benson without mercy had thrown my things out like he planned it years ago even before Derek died. They didn't let me mourn my son, and neither did they allow me to attend his burial nor to say my final farewell.

I was forced to go back to my mom and grandma. They had cried with me and also made sure I didn't drown myself in sorrow. The pain I felt in my heart was so strong that I felt sick; for days I was bedridden.

Feeling a lot better today, I decided to visit my son. It was something I wanted to do days ago but I was prohibited from leaving the house till I got well.

Making sure no one I knew was around, I made my way to the graveside. On the stone was written Derek Benson Walford, my heart tightened as till now, I still couldn't understand how he died. A once jovial child went to school and never returned.

"Derek, what happened?" I choked as I tried to ask. I knew he wouldn't respond but I just wanted to know. I fell on my knees as I wept beside his grave.

He didn't deserve to die. He is my boy, my sweet and playful boy.

I didn't know how long I knelt there staring at the stone where his name was written. I recalled all that we did together. He is such a sweet four-year-old. Always happy and I knew he would grow up to be a wonderful man but he was taken from me early.

It was when I heard a groan behind me that I snapped my eyes from the stone to look behind me. I gasped when I saw a crippled man fall off his wheelchair. I rushed over,

"Sir, are you alright?" I asked but there was no response. My heart began to beat faster.

"Sir? Sir?" I shook him but he wasn't responding. I checked his pulse, he was alive. I struggled to place him in the wheelchair since there was no one around. He was quite very heavy. I wondered what had happened to him but I was sure that mother and grandmother would be able to help him.

I had to use the back gate since I came through the back gate. No one had to know that I had come to see my son, most especially the Walford family.

We got home in a cab, the man was still unconscious. I called for my mother and grandmother but no one answered me. With the help of the cab driver, I was able to take the man inside.

Who was he? I didn't know. I just don't want to be blamed for someone's death again. Even though I knew nothing about it. My eyes sting with tears when I recall how my mother-in-law had accused me of killing my son.

I swallowed, blinking the tears away before roaming around the kitchen searching for an already-made herb made by Grandma. I found none,

"Don't die on me," I murmured to the man. If Grandma had been around, she would have healed the man with her special herbs by now.

"What do I do?" I began to pace around. Although grandma had taught me a few things, I don't know if it would help.

"There's no harm in trying, Annalise," I whispered to myself.

Hurrying out of the house, I went towards Grandma's small farm and began to pick some herbs. I'd smell and then taste them. I don't know what that means but Grandma does it a lot. I grabbed more than a handful before rushing back into the house

Getting the pot, I filled it with water before throwing all the herbs inside one of the pots one after the other. As I did that, I stirred. I hope this helps.

When I was done, I served some in a cup and made my way to the man whose temperature had elevated

"Here, drink. You'll be fine" I whispered as I gave him a drink. After making him drink the whole cup, I took the leaf and rubbed it on his forehead before moving to his legs. I rubbed some there too.

"You can wake up now," I said but he still didn't move.

"Hey, wake up, mister," but nothing.

I almost slapped myself when it dawned on me that there was great harm in trying this one. What if he doesn't wake up? What if what I gave to him was poison?

Fear gripped me as I began to panic. Should I go in search of Grandma? Oh no!

"Hey! Mister!" I yelled as I hit his chest. "Wake up!"

And he sneezed. Not once but twice. A wide smile formed on my lips, he was alive.

"Mister?" I called but he only went back to sleep. My face twitched but slowly I began to smile. His temperature had gone down. There, I was happy. My very first patient that I healed without grandma's help. I can't wait for Grandma to get back so I can tell her. She would be so proud.

I decided to stay with him for a while before I went to take my bath. My body inches because of the sand I had knelt on for hours back at the cemetery.

I continued to stare at the man as I lay beside him, it was then I realized how handsome he looked. His dark hair was messy, his eyes closed but his eyelashes were long. His eyebrows were much darker too. My eyes moved to his sharp pointed nose, then his lips, thin and soft.

Soft?

Was it soft? I wondered and found my fingers already close to his lips, ready to touch them. I clutched my fingers not wanting to go there but what harm can be done? He was sleeping, right?

Without any more thought, my finger reached for his lips. And I guessed right, they were soft.

Liiam's POV I fell lazily on the couch in Anna's office, I don't even understand why I'm being worked up about all of these. I wasn't exactly pleased when she decided to give Benson a listening ear, she was suppose to snub him, tell him that they have nothing to talk about and walk away from him with me by her side. But she gestured for me to excuse her, I didn't like that. I tried so hard not to show how disappointed I was. My blood boiled in rage and even though I knew that Anna wouldn't do anything to hurt with, I just don't trust Benson. And recalling how I had taken one of the flowers and letters from the delivery guy without giving it to Anna, I wondered if Benson would tell and if she would be disappointed at my childishness. I just didn't want to be caught. Pacing around her office didn't help but it kept me busy until she came in and thank goodness Anna didn't even care. Now, all I have to do is wait until she's done and then we can leave for the party. The vibration fr

  • Heartache To Hierarchy   106 The Walford Family

Annalise's Pov My breath hitched hearing those words from father. His fingers were pressed on the desk before him, his eyes desperately begging me to say yes. My eyes were locked on his as I bit my lips. This is the first time they would come to me for help, and no matter how much I hated them now, I do not want to see Mrs Walford die, definitely not when I can help. “Fine,” I replied, releasing my breath. I turned to Liam who was standing behind me and reached for his hand, “I'll try to make it as fast as possible,” and he nodded.“I'll ask them to prepare the theatre room,” Father murmured before walking out of the room. I sighed, I just want my time with Liam. “It's okay. I'm here. Like I said, I don't mind not attending the party,” he smiled and my lips tugged up. “That's not happening,” I hit his chest before giving him a light squeeze in his hand, “Let's get this started. The earlier we begin, the earlier we are done,”We walked out of Father's office only to meet Benson

  • Heartache To Hierarchy   105:Why is he here?

Annalise's Pov“This better work, Liam,” I groaned, seeing father's call again. The phone remained on my thighs. I refused to answer it because we were already at the entrance of the hospital, yet I had a bad feeling that Father might not allow me to leave. Liam had a small smile on his face, I knew he was trying to be as understanding as possible, but he had been glancing at his wristwatch all the way here. We were obviously late. “I am sure Father wouldn't want to ruin your day,” Liam replied, still in hope. And I just pray God answers him. We walked side by side into the hospital building. The moment some of the nurses and doctors saw me, they rushed towards me, not noticing that I was with someone. “Doctor Annalise, Doctor Annalise,”“We need your help, we need you” A frown formed on my face, my hand that held Liam's let go of his as my pace naturally increased. Knowing that this wasn't only Father trying to make sure I come to the hospital but something rather serious, I was

  • Heartache To Hierarchy   Chapter 104: Mother and Daughter in law

Author's POV In the quiet room, Lara was lying comfortably on the bed as she filed her nails and responded to the person on the other side of the phone. It was her mother,“Mother, why would I lie to you? Your best friend has suddenly changed her preference in women. She no longer cares if I'm the daughter of her best friend anymore. She wants me out” Lara snarled. Although, this has been going on for a while— how Mrs Walford started supporting Annalise since she found out that the lady was now a Smith but Lara didn't say a word about it, thinking Mrs Walford was trying to just get her hands on the wealth. What she didn't know was how Mrs Walford kept pushing her husband to go back to the slut. “I can't believe this. She dare not!” “As you must have heard, the ex daughter-in-law has suddenly become rich and famous, a person of influence and is making it in the business world. Mrs Walford no longer sees the slut in her,” Lara informed. Although she was upset about everything, she

  • Heartache To Hierarchy   Chapter 103: Interruptions.

Annalise's POV “I’ve missed you so much too Anna” Liam whispered, my back arched further into him. We were both having the time of our lives when the vibration from my phone caused me to pause. “Liam…” but he didn't plan to stop, I didn't want him to either so I ignored the call. Soon, the call ended and I sighed, ready to give my all to Liam when it started ringing again. Liam's hand on my ass couldn't let me concentrate until we heard a loud bang on the door, “Annalise, it's your Father!” I heard mother's voice and pushed Liam off the bed in fright. Liam landed on the ground with a thud, “Serves me right,” he groaned. “Sorry,” I whispered before rushing towards the door to open it, “What's it, Mother?” I saw Grandma J. standing next to Mother, she had a deep frown on her face. I wondered what was wrong— I was going to ask when Mother shoved the phone into my hand. That was when I noticed that Father was on the phone. “Hello Father,”“Annalise George Smith, where did you drop

  • Heartache To Hierarchy   102

Early Seduction Liam's POV The room was quiet, there were noises right outside the room but I remained seated on the bed, not saying a word but working on my phone. The sound of rushing water from the bathroom kept making me look towards the bathroom, not wanting to do so anymore. I moved to sit facing the wall instead of the bathroom door, yet I kept hearing the sound of water– completely disturbing me from my work. My thoughts filled with the person using the rushing water, I gulped time and time again. I was trying to focus on my phone, distract myself from my own thoughts but it wasn't working. Annalise had asked that I go over to the office and she would meet me up at the office but I refused. I wanted to take her to the party myself so I waited. She pulled me into the house and into her room without asking me if I wanted to be there. I suspected she must have done that because of her Grandma J but I wish she didn't. Now, I can't get my thoughts from thinking the right
