Britney — Safe space

This was a terrible idea and I knew it, but I kept walking towards the restaurant where Will and I met anyway. Too emotionally drained to make excuses, even to myself, I accepted that I had cabin fever. Well that and maybe some small, teeny tiny part of me wanted to see Will.

"May I?" he asked, sneaking up on me from behind and claiming my hand before I had the chance to respond.

"It appears you may," I responded bluntly, a trait I came to associate with being in his presence.

Still, I allowed him to hold onto my hand and escort me into the room. Ill at ease with all the attention we were drawing, I found myself holding a hand up to my chest.

"Who knew one hundred people were so many," I proclaimed, now squeezing the hand that held mine.

"Surely it's nothing to the great Britney O'Prey," he said, moving to let go of my hand.

A switch flipped inside me and I held on tighter, both to his hand and my chest. Will paused, waiting on me, a quizzical look in his eye.

"Of course not, nothing at all," I said with a hasty smile.

His facial expression went from curious to does it say I'm with stupid on my face. If I weren't trying so hard to keep my breathing regular, I would have giggled at the sight. The man was too self assured and comfortable for his own good. Too much the opposite of me. What on earth was I thinking, coming here?

He moved with purpose, cautiously wrapping an arm around my shoulders. I watched as he and Harmon exchanged looks across the room. Will shook his head no, which sent Harmon into action. The PA cut off another man, who had presumably been en route to Will.

"Come," he said, rushing me back out the way we had entered.

My defenses went up instinctively and I moved to push him away. "I'm fine," I choked out.

I couldn't very well tell him the truth. This kind of thing hadn't happened to me in years. Why now?

In the end what I did or didn't say was of no consequence, because Will didn't budge.

"Just come, you stubborn woman," he commanded.

He ushered me out of the restaurant, through the lobby, eventually presenting me to his private elevator. Once we were inside and the elevator was moving, he flipped the emergency stop switch and the elevator shut down.

"See one too many NCIS episodes?" I asked, feeling I had humored this near stranger long enough.

My dry humor got me a snigger as he leaned against the wall and slid down to the floor, sitting down with his legs crossed, motioning for me to do the same.

I looked down at the dress I had picked out for the night. Black and strapless with a mid-thigh slit. I almost didn't know which was worse — sitting or standing.

"Don't trust you enough," I concluded. "Or at all really."

"Must everything be an argument with you?" he asked, offering me his hand, which I refused to accept.

We stayed like this for what felt like an age. Will took his jacket off, offering it to me. I declined, but as my anxiety subsided, so too did my will to keep standing.

As my butt hit the floor, I heard the dress rip. My hands instinctively covered my bosom.

"Wrong body part," he said with a smirk.

I followed his line of sight. The slit had widened, splitting the dress all the way up to my belly.

He leaned in and asked, "All in black tonight?" His eyes drifted down to my cleavage.

I grabbed my dress and scooted away from him, scrambling to cover up the panties he'd so blatantly stared at moments before. My whole head burst into flames from the embarrassment.

"That's none of your business!" I snapped.

"There, now that's better," he said, licking his lips, a crooked grin playing on them. "Much better when it's just you and I, right?"

I stopped fussing as it dawned on me that he didn't bring me here to take me back to his and make passionate love to me. Of course he didn't. Of the fifty women on the island that he could have, why would he pick the one that was constantly yelling at him about something or other?

"An odd place to take someone who is having a panic attack, don't you think? All confined and small as this tin can is," I noted.

"Well, that depends. If you were feeling claustrophobic, then perhaps. If, however, it was the people making you anxious, then this is the perfect place to go. Always works for me. This is my safe space," he answered with a shrug.

And it worked, exactly as he intended. The alarm was blaring loudly all around us, but there he and I sat, on the ground, perfectly at ease. His shoulders relaxed and for the first time in a week, almost without me realizing it, mine did too. It was only when I caught myself smiling at him that I felt it. A feeling of vulnerability and openness came over me, followed directly by nausea at the recognition of the same.

Remembering my inappropriate state of dress, I gathered up my dress and bundled it up, covering myself as best I could while rising. I flipped the switch and pushed the button for the ground floor. Over and over I pushed it, but still up we went.

Once we did at last start descending again, my anxiety levels went right back up. Will, ever the gentleman, rose to his full height.

"You've made it perfectly clear that you won't come up with me, but you can't step out there like this," he said, throwing the jacket over my shoulders.

His eyes met mine and my mouth went dry. I couldn't take him being so nice to me. I felt weak, malleable, like putty in his hands. My body needed to be away from his, but damn it, he smelled so good.

I remembered just how soft those lips were under my finger as I looked straight at them. As I wracked my brain for how to respond, the elevator doors dinged open and a flash of light drew our attention.

The source of said light was a phone and by the time we knew what was happening, the owner had caught up with us.

"Ms. O'Prey, Ryan Summers from Universal Gazette. Are you and Mr. Hunter dating?" the man asked.

"Give me that," Will raged, snatching the phone out of Ryan's hand.

"I know you," I said, trying to recall from where.

That was right. This was the man whom Harmon had diverted away from us before Will brought me to the elevator.

"Mr. Hunter, can you explain the ripped dress and why you're sneaking Ms. O'Prey out of your suite if you're not dating?"

When I remembered where it was that I knew Ryan from, my glare went from him to Will.

"So, no phones on your island, huh?" I roared, as Will continued trying to unlock Ryan's phone.

At my words, Will froze.

"Now hold on a second," said Will, studying my face, anger and alarm spreading out on his own.

I wasn't about to comply of course. As Will turned to me, I slapped him, shoved my heel into his foot for good measure and then stomped off.

Another four months later…We'd spent the first half of the morning surfing. Keeping up with Will was next to impossible, but the longer we spent on Cupid's Cove, the better I got."What about the hike to the waterfall? We were going to go for a swim," I asked in between kisses, but Will was already too far gone, not that it took much."Later," he mumbled into my mouth, before his fingers fumbled for the zipper of my wetsuit. The sound of him pulling the zipper down mixed with our eager moans as our little pecks turned into a deep, toe curling, passionate make out session. It always surprised me how fast he could get my clothes off, even when it came to things like wetsuits. As he peeled the fabric from my skin, he replaced its presence with his warm hands, making me shiver.By the time the wetsuit fell to my feet, we were still stumbling around in the corridor of the first floor. Will reached out for a door, his mouth still sucking on mine as I repaid the favor of removing his wetsui

Six months later… "I'm so going to be late," said Bianca, emerging into the kitchen, dressed in a white pantsuit. Before she could get past me and make a play for the coffee, my arms went around her waist and I pulled her towards me. "You're about to be even later, looking like you do," I said, looking her up and down appreciatively before stealing a kiss. "You see people in suits all day," she said, rolling her eyes playfully as she locked her fingers behind my neck. "I do, but you're the only one of those people I've fucked all over this kitchen," I cooed, stealing another kiss, my lips lingering on hers a little longer. She deepened the kiss, leaning into me. My hand slid up to cup and squeeze her breast, causing her to moan, slap my hand and pull away. "I can't be late. It's my first day at the DA's office. I need to make a good impression," she insisted, slipping out of my arms. "Trust me, you've already made an impression on your new boss," I sassed. "Are

The days leading up to the launch dragged by slowly. Harmon had Will's schedule packed so full that we hadn't seen each other since the day of Britney's press conference. After seeing Will every day for over a month, not seeing him for the last two weeks made me … uncomfortable, for lack of a better word. It was the strangest thing. I had never felt anything like it before. He made a point of checking in with me every night before he went to bed. While I looked forward to the thirty to sixty minutes that I would spend on a video call with him every night, it just wasn't the same. When launch day finally came, I had to keep my distance from Britney so as not to gouge her eyes out. Will didn't want to distract from the airline's launch by confirming our relationship publicly ahead of it. This had me a bit worried, to be honest. Something told me it was more than that, but I didn't push the issue. It didn't help knowing that he would spend the day next t

With his hand still in mine, Will raised a finger to his lips, indicating for me to be quiet as he tugged on my hand and led me away from the rapidly forming crowd. "What is going on?" I whispered, as we tiptoed out the back door. "If we're very careful, we can make a run for it without being seen," Will whispered back. Taking twists and turns with our backs up against walls, I felt like a naughty child escaping punishment as Will and I stepped up to the elevator, narrowly avoiding the crowd just behind us. We giggled as we waited for the doors to open, shushed each other, then giggled some more while stepping into the elevator. His arms were around my waist and mine around his neck in no time. As the doors closed and Will fumbled to push the button to the roof, our lips found each other's. His warm, familiar hands slipped under my skirt, bunching it up a

My palm was red from punching my fist into it as we all nervously crowded around Olivia's tablet to watch Britney's press conference. Fuck, Britney looked nervous and her cheeks were a deep pink. Was she drunk? I couldn't imagine how she would, but Britney had a knack for making bad situations worse. As I readied my fist to stuff it back into my palm again, Will slipped his hand into mine, rubbing small circles into my palm. He didn't look at me, didn't say a word, but I knew he was letting me know that everything would be okay. "What Jason said in the video is true, in case there was any doubt. The woman in the photos and video is not Bianca Hastings, it's me," Britney blurted out. The press started yelling questions at a flustered Britney, until she pointed at someone in the crowd. "Is Bianca Hastings your twin?" the reporter asked. "Yes," Britney ans

"Can we shut this down? Stop the video from spreading?" I asked, glancing at Bianca. She looked like a different person, wearing one of my shirts and a baggy pair of sweatpants. My vixen was doing her best to remain calm, but I could tell that everything was getting to her. That was why, after a brief shower and change of clothes, we reconvened with Harmon and Macy via conference call. Before braving the outside world, where the paparazzi lurked around every corner, including outside the gates of the mansion, I wanted to know all the facts. "Too late. It's gone viral. Will, you need to think of the company," said Harmon, ever the pragmatist. "In other words, dump my friend when she's at her lowest," said Macy. And we were back to the fighting. If Macy and Harmon were in the same room, they'd be tearing each other's hair out by now. They could fight about what kind of blue the sky
