The first time I met Eve Bianchi, I tried my hardest not to look at her.

I knew who I was. A man with a debt I cannot repay now or anytime in the future. I’m a man with a ransom over my head. A man who has rules he needs to abide by before he is finally taken off the board before he can even react.

I knew I couldn’t dream. Or I couldn’t want. Eve was far out of my league— with her angelic face and her pale skin and the way she walked around like she belonged in heaven and not this piece of hell that I was constantly reminded that I could never escape from.

But it was fine, because I had Lucille next to me.

And we would always have each other.

I met him when he passed his first assessment in the Hellfire Group when he was seventeen. A room filled with other men twice his size and his age. He had ripped them apart with his hands and teeth, chewed on most of them like a wild dog.

That was where the mad dog title came from.

I was given to him. To handle him. That was the term then.

Adam sits away from me… as far as the table will allow, looking like he wishes the world would end. Jade sits close to him, though she also looks slightly uncomfortable.Lucille, on the other hand, keeps his arm around my waist, pinning me to his lap so I can’t get away. He’s smiling at them, very brightly, but I can see the gun in his other hand resting under the table.I can’t help the sigh that leaves my lips. “We need to make sleeping arrangements.”“Yeah,” Adam starts, jerking his head toward Lucille. “I’m not sleeping around that.”“That’s settled,” Lucille says, chuckling. His hand starts moving upward. “We can settle this—”I quickly grab his arm, pushing it down. I send him a glare, but he only smiles innocently before I turn back to Adam. “I thought you needed a place? Somewhere safe?”“And I should believe he is safe?”I look at Lucille. “Will you harm him?”“Yes.”“Lucille.”He smiles, placing his arm openly on the table. Adam jerks when he spots the gun, but Lucille only

‘Did you miss me? I missed you. I missed you so much I thought I would die. It was a new type of pain for me. A new type of adrenaline rush that made me think I should kill them faster. I had to get home. I never liked getting home until you. I wanted to come see you. I wanted to mold my skin into yours. I needed to. You are very beautiful. Why is he here? I need to kiss you. I want to place you on this table and fuck you so everyone outside can hear how much you like me being inside you. I know I would. Would you like me better? You are hard to please. I give you everything but you must have already had everything. What more can I do for you? What will make you stop fighting me?’Those are the words playing through my head again and again. They grow louder the more I smell her perfume, feel her warmth. She’s always so warm. I never seem to have enough warmth on my body. I want to put my hands under her dress. Her tits are so warm and soft and nice— or maybe I grab her thighs. She co

“You are smart, but it seems there are moments you lack clarity.”“Are you calling me stupid, Lucille?”“No, my wife. I wouldn’t dare,” He hasn’t broken a smile, not even once. He bore one when he saw me walk into the house, but it vanished the second Jade walked out, then his face filled with a predatory look the moment he saw Adam. I made them wait in the car so I could talk to him alone. He looks dressed— for a dinner date. I can smell the food he made. The pasta. It smells delicious but he’s locked the kitchen door— and I’m not sure if it’s because he doesn’t want me to see the state of it, or because he’s angry that I brought people back home. I believe it is both. “May we have our talk now?”“I’m afraid not.” His voice is different too. There’s an eeriness to it that makes me feel almost as if he’s holding himself back from ripping apart anything in his line of sight to pieces. “I can’t concentrate knowing they’re still here,”“They’re not in the house,”“I was hoping you’d

Adam looks like he’s been living on the road for weeks. His hair sticks all over his head, his clothes are rough and filthy. He's wolfing down the food in front of him too like a wild animal. Jade looks slightly disgusted, which is a pleasant emotion to see compared to the way that she’s been quiet since he brought her home. She had barely said anything when I took her to other clothing stores and bought things for her. She seemed excited trying some clothes on but not around me. I don’t try to push her. “Slowly,” I say, though I don’t think he hears me. He picks up a piece of chicken and tears into it. The groan that leaves his lips makes bile rise up my throat though I manage to push it down before he looks at me, his eyes slanting as he chuckles, “You have no idea what the fuck you’ve done, have you?”“I did my father a favour,” I start, folding my arms, “He had no plans on teaching me about taking after the mafia, so I took myself out of it.”“That’s not how it works and you

“— and she’s such a brat! No. I swear, she looks like… she looks like the prettiest thing you’d ever see. Like a rose. But… but worse! She doesn’t just have thorns, but those thorns have poisons! No one sees it though. Yeahhhhh. Everyone says she’s perfect and princess-cy but I know what and who she really is—”Somewhere in my story, they throw me outside. The door of the bar— The Rusty Anchor, or something similar but it’s still a shithole— hits my shoulder on the way out. I fall, the world tilting because of course, I’m not drunk but withdrawal symptoms always start off with something very fucking similar, and land on my ass in a damp alley. The smell of garbage and piss hits me fast, a smell that New York seems to be filled with at this point. “—and stay out, you crazy fuck!” a voice yells from somewhere. It’s probably from the bar, I don’t fucking care, before it slams shut, cutting off the warm, yellow light and the sound of loud rock music with wild banshees screaming. My h

The organ in my chest starts to misbehave, and I’m not sure if I should be grateful it is not the one between my legs this time or angry at myself. “You, on the other hand,” His voice drops a monotone, his eyes looking above me to Jade. He looks soulless, almost empty as he drawls, “are a pet for my wife. She will find good use for you,”“I don’t want a pet.”“Fine. I will kill—”“No.” That makes him smirk. “You say no a lot. And if you do not want to keep her, you should just let me know“I’m not keeping her,” I correct quickly, “I’m making sure you don’t kill her,”“Too many words for exactly what I just said,” He’s shrugging now as he stands erect, then without warning, stretches his hand out above my head, “But I’ve come to understand your mouth and body never truly mean what they say. So let’s see—”I don’t know when my hand reaches out to grab him. All I know is I’m holding his arm— feeling the muscles underneath his skin. He’s worked out more. Which means he has killed more.
