ARIA

The air in the room became colder by the second. I didn’t know how long I’d been locked in there, but every minute dragged like a weight around my chest.

The walls pressed in closer the longer I stood still. The lights were dim, most of them barely working, and shadows fell in angles across the floor.

I tried to move, to sit, to pace, but it felt like the entire room turned to cobwebs. Something floated across my cheek and I jerked back violently, slapping the air.

I stumbled backward into the wall, my palm hitting the cold surface, and the soft brush of cobwebs covered to my skin like needles.

My heartbeat turned manic. I blinked wildly, trying to force myself to breathe, but it was no use. The space was too small. Too quiet. My panic spread like wildfire, quick and suffocating.

The silence was so thick I could hear my own pulse echoing in my ears.

And then I thought I heard them.

Outside the door, Talia and Zara were whispering, and snickering.

Their silhouettes didn’t appea

  • Her Billionaire Ex-husband's Regret    247. WHO WANTED ARIA GONE?

CASPIANAria was shaking in my arms, coughing against my shirt, but I didn’t care that she was probably soaking me through. I just kept holding her, one hand braced on the back of her head, the other gripping her tighter than I probably should have. She was alive. That was all I could think. She was alive.Behind us, the building was in chaos. “Breathe slowly,” I told Aria, smoothing damp hair away from her face. My voice was calmer than I felt. Inside, I was seconds away from tearing that entire building apart.“Caspian…”“Shh.” I pulled her in again, burying my face in her hair. She smelled like smoke, and I forced myself to take a breath.I had almost lost her.Someone had locked her in there, and had set that fire. And they hadn’t just been trying to scare her. They had wanted her dead.My locked so hard it ached.A throat cleared nearby, and I turned to find Duke. “We need to get her out of here,” he said quietly.I nodded. “My car’s out front.”Duke stepped closer. “Can you

ARIAVienne called before I’d even had my morning coffee. “Rowan has a product viewing scheduled, Miss Stanton, and you’re expected to be in the office this morning.”I set my mug down on the counter and pinched the bridge of my nose. “I’ll be there by noon.”“It’s this morning, Miss Stanton.”“I heard you, and I'll be there by noon.” The pause on the line told me she didn’t approve, but I didn’t care. I hung up and went back to my coffee, and true to my word, I walked into the office at exactly noon. Vienne was already in the lobby, standing so straight she looked like her spine had been fused. She didn’t greet me, didn’t even look me in the eye. She just turned and started walking away. I followed her unil she stopped at a black door with my name on it. “This is yours,” she said, pushing it open.I stepped inside and set my bag on the oak desk. The door closed behind me and Vienne left me alone. A few minutes later, the door opened and expecting Vienne, I smiled. “Thanks, Vi

ARIA“Get something different. You ordered the same thing last time.” “And you judged me then too. Besides, the last time was a long time ago. I'm allowed to crave this again.” I laughed at Nyx’s aggravated expression, taking a slow sip of the pumpkin latte. Nyz stirred her tea lazily, her black nails tapping the handle of her cup. She looked like a bored cat. A gorgeous, bored cat. And I was still hung up on how I would tell her about Xander. He was in hell, and he needed a hand out of it. Nyx’s mouth curved. “Consistency isn’t a flaw.” She lifted her gaze, dark eyes locking on mine. “Unless you’re consistently bad at making decisions.”“Thanks,” I deadpanned, blowing on my coffee. “That’s uplifting.”Nyx took a slow sip of tea, looking out of the window. Her green eyes were like shiny emeralds with the light behind her. “You seem relaxed today,” I said. “I thought you'd be wound up.” “Mm.” She hummed like she hadn’t heard me, but then she tipped her head toward me, casual. “

CASPIANStevens was shaking by the time we were done with him. Duke shoved him out of the back seat without ceremony, dumping him on the sidewalk a few doors down from his house. He stumbled, caught himself, and shot me one terrified look before sprinting for his front porch like the devil was on his heels. He was a good actor. No one would suspect he hadn't been scared shitless. “Do you think he’ll talk?” Duke asked, leaning an elbow on the window frame as I slid back into the front seat. “What if he's lying?” “No,” I said flatly, watching Stevens disappear inside his house. “Not if he knows what’s good for him. Besides, he was scared. Scared and worried.”Duke grunted, a low sound that might’ve been approval. Markus started the engine, and we pulled away without looking back.Stevens had given us enough. There was Rowan’s meeting in three days, the trafficking truth, the fact he’d been digging into him for years. By the time I got home, Aria was waiting in the kitchen with he

CASPIAN“Stevens,” I said evenly, “We need to meet. You can tell me that when we do.”“No. I told you, I can’t.”“You can,” I corrected. “And you will. We’ll make it look natural. No one will know, and if there’s someone watching, they won't think twice.”“Not a chance,” he said, almost frantic now. “You don’t get it. If I meet you and they even think I might be talking to you, I'm dead. Rowan will hurt me anyway he can find.” “I don’t care what Rowan will do. Do you want this to be over? Do you want to stop looking over your shoulders forever? Then you need me.” I could almost hear Stevens thinking. I could hear the rattle or his panicked breathing as he tried to bring it under control. “Stevens, you already answered my call. Do you think if Rowan’s watching, that didn’t already put a target on your back? At least this way, we get ahead of it.”“Fuck!” There was a muffled string of curses, then I heard a door slam, a rush of water in the background and he muttered. “Fine.”I exhal

CASPIAN Ivan looked like hell. Sweat plastered his hair to his forehead, his wrists raw where the rope was tied into his skin. The confident man who got off from hurting anyone weaker than him was gone. This Ivan was jittery, shaking, jumping at every word and sound, his jaw clenched impotently tight. He looked like he hadn't had the strength to sleep in days. I stood in front of him, my brows raised, a scalpel in my hand.m, blood dripping from the edge. Ivan was crying, spit trailing from the corner of his lips, his left eyes swollen shut. Duke leaned against the wall beside us. “Where are they?” I asked, leaning forward with the scalpel an inch from Ivan’s skin. He jerked forward, his eyes snapping to meet mine like he'd just woken from sleep, or been electrocuted out of his senses. “Where are who?” “The girls,” I said, lowering my voice. “The ones that are vanishing. What do you know about them?” His eyes widened and he pulled away from the ties holding him to
