CASPIAN

“Talia, I've warned you three times so far never to slap my staff, haven't I?”

Talia squeezed against the wall like my words were physically striking her. She wiped tears off her face, but they kept dripping down.

“I'm sorry, Caspian. I didn't mean to. I was so angry last night, then it happened!” She gasped, sniffling pitifully.

Jesus! Talia was confounding. One second, she was looking innocent like she couldn't hurt a fly, and the next second, she was acting like a possessed demon.

“Get out of my car, Talia. Just get out. You're already on suspension from work, don't make me send you packing from the house.”

She nodded, and hurried out. Last night, she had slapped a maid so hard that she was nearly blinded.

The young girl had to be rushed to the hospital and this morning, I had been informed by the housekeeper.

“Hugo, keep track of her. If she does one more thing wrong, take her mansion and half her diamonds. I'm sure that will teach her to behave better.” I said to Hugo

  • Her Billionaire Ex-husband's Regret    255. "PROMISE ME YOU'LL COME BACK"

CASPIAN“I would’ve killed him myself!”Aria jumped off the couch, pacing in front of me, her chest rising and falling, her eyes bright with something I couldn’t name. Was it rage? fear? fire?Or was it all those things tangled into one mess that was choking her?It put me on edge.It set my teeth with fear for her, because Aria would take chances with herself and her life if she knew she could take out Rowan. That was one risk I was unwilling to take.I needed to get rid of him before she got it into her head that she could do it herself.I dragged a hand down my face, knuckles raw from Rowan’s blood. My pulse was suddenly harder than ever, as though my body was trying to make up for forgetting that the fight wasn’t over.“Don’t say stuff like that, Aria.” I gritted out.“Why not? I could do it. And he would deserve it after all the lives he’s ruined. And you? Do you think I wouldn’t pull the trigger if it meant keeping you alive? We both know he’s coming for you.”I knew damned wel

CASPIANI laughed before I could stop it. It was half in relief, and half because I was exhausted, and laughing felt better than losing my damned mind.It felt better than being stuck in the cold at the dock, running from another dead end.Damn it.I dropped my head, pressing my forehead against Aria’s, breathing her in. She smelled like her body wash, and it was such a calming thing just to smell her skin. For th first time since rhe docks, my chest didn’t feel like it was being squeezed shut.“Aria…”Her hands framed my face.“Don’t Aria me, Caspian. When all is said and done, you can’t walk in here with blood on your shirt and expect me to pretend that it’s totally normal.”“It’s not my blood.”“I promise that doesn’t make it better.”I closed my eyes slowly, seeing the evening as it had gone. Rowan’s grin as he vanished under the waves would haunt me for the rest of my life at this rate.Aria pulled my shirt, tugging on it until I opened my eyes.I shook my head. I couldn’t unl

CASPIANThe water swallowed him whole. We stood there, guns raised, scanning the black surface as if Rowan might resurface, coughing and swearing. But the only sound was the slap of waves against the dock. The current pulled at the pilings, dark and fast, dragging him wherever it pleased.“Eyes up,” Duke said finally, “We’re still exposed.”Markus muttered something under his breath, still searching the shadows as though he expected Rowan to just pop up any second.“Can you see him?” I asked, even though I already knew the answer.Duke shook his head. “He’s gone, Caspian. That current’ll carry him a mile before he even surfaces. If he surfaces.”“He will.” I was convinced of that. “Bastard’s like cockroaches. He’ll crawl out somewhere.”Rowan wasn't jumping to his death. I knew very well he wouldn't have risked it, if he wasn't certain he could survive it. Markus looked at me over his shoulder. “We’ve got to pull back. We don’t have numbers to sweep this whole dockyard, and we’re r

CASPIANThe man was being a menace and he didn't even have to be.Xander closed his eyes, and sighed. “How much longer is this going to be? Shoot me already.” The man behind him stabbed his head forward with the gun. “Now you shut up!” I saw Xander’s fingers ball into fists and one looked down at him, and I knew what he had planned. “Sniper!” I screamed, ducking behind for cover with my eyes still on Xander. Xander jumped off the ground, pulled his shoulders forward, then back into the man’s crotch. The man doubled over, both his hands cupping his balls. A moment later, he went toppling to the ground, groaning and grunting like a pig. Xander picked his gun off the floor, cocked it and shot him in the knee. “Look who's being a cry baby now. Not so strong now, are you?” Turning away from him, I made my way to my car, dragging Rowan behind me, while Xander released another bullet into the man who was full on slobbering now. “Xander? Caspian? We’ve got to go!” Rowan was still l

CHAPTER 249CASPIAN“Move!” I barked, shoving Stevens forward. He stumbled, breathing hard. His lashes were matted with tears. “They…”“Save it, you can explain later,” I snapped, dragging him behind a stack of shipping crates. Safety first, because there would be no time for stories if we all died here. The cover was a flimsy stack of crates, but at least it was something between us and the billets whizzing past our heads. The air was filled with the smell of gunpowder and motor oil, bullets hitting the crates around us.Duke’s men fired back, each shot bouncing off the concrete walls of the dockyard.“Caspian!?” I heard Markus scream my name. My heart lodged into my throat as I assumed he was hurt. But no, he was pointing desperately at Rowan who was running away. The fucking coward.I turned to Stevens and fisted his shirt. “Stay here. Unless you’re absolutely in danger, do not move from here. Do you understand?”He nodded, his eyes almost filmy with fear. I shook my head. He p

  • Her Billionaire Ex-husband's Regret    250. CHAOS RELOADED

CASPIANEven as I spoke the words, I knew they made no sense.Stevens had said Rowan planned to move in three days, moving a day earlier meant he was spooked. What did he know? I went up to our room and grabbed a jacket.Aria looked up from the couch when I returned.I leaned in and kissed her cheeks. “I’ll be back soon. I’m not sure how long this will take, so don’t wait up. I’ll lock the door behind me.”She stood and hugged me hard. “Stay safe, Caspian.”I nodded, and stalked out of the house. Duke sent me directions to where they were waiting. Stevens’ voice wouldn’t leave my head as I drove over to him. “Rowan’s moving the shipment early. Something’s wrong.”My gut was tight, my hands already curled into fists I hadn’t thrown yet. I didn’t even need to check in with Duke or Markus; they’d be waiting. And sure enough, by the time I made it out to where they were, Markus’ SUV was idling at the curb, Duke in the driver’s seat.Xander was standing beside the car, leaning back aga
