Jessica’s POV

Darius was making his move.

That realization sent a wave of ice through my veins, even as Ryan’s grip tightened around me.

The pack council.

The same council that had the power to strip Ryan of his title and put Darius on the throne.

"He wouldn’t dare," Ryan growled, his entire body vibrating with anger.

But the way his jaw clenched told me he wasn’t sure.

He knew Darius. And Darius never made a move unless he knew he could win.

I forced myself to stand, my legs still shaky. "We have to go there now."

Ryan shook his head. "No. I’ll handle this."

His voice was firm, protective.

I understood. He wanted to keep me out of it.

But I wasn’t just a bystander in this war.

"Darius is my problem too, Ryan," I said, lifting my chin. "I’m going with you."

Ryan’s hazel eyes locked onto mine, conflicted. But he must have seen the determination on my face because, after a tense moment, he sighed.

"Stay close to me," he murmured.

I nodded. Then, without another word, we left for the council hall.

The Council Meeting

The hall was packed when we arrived. The entire pack council was already seated a mix of old and new leaders, their faces stern and unreadable.

But it wasn’t them that made my blood turn to ice.

It was Darius. He stood at the center of the room, completely at ease like he already knew how this was going to play out.

His brown eyes flicked to me instantly, amusement curling at the corners of his lips.

"Ah," he mused. "The lovebirds have arrived."

Ryan growled slowly, stepping in front of me like a shield. "Get to the point, Darius."

Darius smirked but turned back to the council.

"I’ve called this meeting," he said smoothly, "to discuss the future of our pack."

My stomach twisted.

"I believe," Darius continued, "that Ashmoon Pack deserves a leader who can actually protect it. One that hasn’t weakened himself over a woman."

My hands clenched into fists.

The insult was clear. Ryan’s wolf growled, his rage barely contained. "Say what you mean, Darius."

Darius tilted his head slightly, pretending to consider. Then his smirk sharpened.

"I challenge you for the Alpha position."

The room erupted. Gasps. Murmurs. Shocked voices overlapping.

Ryan’s entire body stiffened beside me.

"You son of a"

"Enough!" One of the elders, Councilman Graves, slammed his cane against the floor. "This is no place for brawls."

Darius didn’t flinch. "This isn’t a brawl," he said smoothly. "It’s tradition. The strongest leads. And right now, that’s me."

Ryan was shaking with fury.

I grabbed his arm, my heart pounding. "Ryan, don’t"

But I already knew. He couldn’t back down.

Not without losing everything.

The council exchanged glances before Graves sighed. "The challenge is valid. If both parties agree, the battle will take place at dawn."

Ryan’s muscles tensed.

Then he spoke.

"I accept." That Night

I couldn’t sleep.

I sat at the edge of Ryan’s bed, staring at the moonlight spilling through the window.

If Ryan lost tomorrow…

No.

I couldn’t even think about that.

The door creaked open, and I turned to see Ryan step inside, his shirt discarded, revealing the powerful muscles of his torso.

But all I saw were the bruises and scars from past battles.

Battles he had won.

Battles he might not win this time.

He walked over, kneeling in front of me.

"You’re worried," he murmured.

I swallowed hard. "Of course I am. Darius is… strong."

Ryan lifted my chin, forcing me to meet his eyes.

"So am I."

I shook my head. "But you’re different now, Ryan. The blood bond"

He tensed.

I felt the moment the truth hit him.

His wolf was weaker.

After marking me, after taking the risk to claim me despite my curse… he had lost a part of himself.

And Darius knew it.

"Ryan, please," I whispered. "We can find another way."

His expression softened, but his resolve didn’t break.

"I can’t let him take everything, Jess," he murmured. "Not you. Not the pack. I won’t."

A lump formed in my throat.

I hated this.

Hated that I was the reason this fight was happening.

"Then let me fight with you," I whispered.

Ryan exhaled sharply, shaking his head. "No. Absolutely not."

"Ryan"

"Jessica." His voice was firm. Final. "I will handle this."

Tears burned my eyes.

"But what if" His lips pressed against mine before I could finish.

It wasn’t a desperate kiss.

It wasn’t goodbye. It was a promise.

"I’ll win," he murmured against my lips. "I have to."

I held onto him like I could hold onto time itself.

Like if I just stayed here, in his arms, the battle would never come.

But it did. Dawn The Fight Begins

The training grounds were packed with wolves.

They stood in a large circle, watching as Ryan and Darius faced each other.

The energy in the air was thick with anticipation.

I stood at the edge of the circle, my hands trembling as I watched Ryan roll his shoulders, preparing for the fight.

Darius stood opposite him, relaxed, confident. Too confident.

He smirked at Ryan.

"You sure you want to do this, brother?" he taunted.

Ryan didn’t answer. His wolf growled slowly, muscles flexing.

Graves stepped between them, raising a hand.

"The battle for Alpha will be fought until submission or death," he declared.

I flinched.

"Begin." Darius attacked first.

The moment he lunged, Ryan moved fast, precise, dodging to the side and aiming for Darius’s ribs.

But Darius was faster. His elbow snapped out, slamming into Ryan’s gut.

Ryan grunted, staggering back.

I bit my lip hard enough to draw blood.

Ryan recovered quickly, retaliating with a powerful swipe to Darius’s jaw.

The crack of bone echoed through the clearing.

But Darius only wiped the blood from his mouth and smiled.

My stomach dropped. Something was wrong.

Darius shouldn’t have been able to recover so fast.

Then I saw it. A faint glow beneath his skin.

Magic. Dark magic.

He had cheated. Ryan didn’t see it.

But I did. And by the time I opened my mouth to warn him

Darius struck. His claws slashed across Ryan’s chest, deep and brutal.

Ryan’s body hit the ground with a sickening thud.

I screamed. Ryan didn’t move.

And Darius? Darius turned to me Smiling.

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 79.

Ryan's POV.At that moment, I was curious to know that the rebels had all gone because I was certain that they had not left with the pack members, Murphy and Jessica. But then where had they all disappeared to when the army showed up at the gate, and what if it was not Kane that had given us out but the rebels? I stood there while they were tying the chains on my hands, staring at the pack, thinking that any of them were going to show up, but I did not see any one of them.As the army dragged me away from the pack towards the carriage, I kept wondering if Jessica and Murphy had gone far in the woods. The woods was a kind of confusing place, and one could easily get lost and keep turning around in a cycle. Something like that happened to them, so they might probably be caught by the soldiers while they tried to escape. As I stayed inside the cage where I was locked in while being ridden back to the Ashmoon pack, I prayed to the goddess to give me a safe place away from the eyes of our

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 78

Ryan's POV.I was staring at the army as they all lined up in front of the gate. Waiting to attack us, and at that moment, everything in my head went blank. I heard footsteps behind us, and I turned around to see that it was Jessica, who was known outside, with us staring back at the army."Ryan, what do we do?" She asked in a low voice that was almost like a whisper, but I could not give a response to it because even I did not know what we were supposed to do at that moment. How was I going to know this was not what we expected, that we expected that Darius and Isabella were not going to find us so quickly unless someone had given us away and that person could be Kane, who was no longer in the camp and not seen by anyone?"He did this; Kane did this. He had sold us out to Darius and Isabella. How come we did not even notice that he was going to be a betrayer?" Murphy asked as he stood still, staring at the army, waiting for who was going to move first. As for me, I had no idea at all

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 77

Ryan's POV.Even before the conversation with Murphy, I was already worried about what we were going to do because that collaboration between us and the rebels was not just going to work no matter how we tried to look at it. We are pack wolves; we are organized people, and we act as one as a family, but rebels are not organized; they believe only in themselves, and they do not trust anyone. How could we possibly be in union with such wolves? I did not have anything against them, but I was not foolish enough to think that a union between Pack wolves and rebel wolves was going to be true.Jessica kept countering it from the beginning, and when we finally agreed to collaborate and stay in the camp together, she decided not to say a word about it again, but I knew that she was not pleased with it either. Before coming out the front of the camp, I had an argument with her when she said that she was not going to be held responsible if the weather should eat up the pack wolves in their sleep

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 76.

Murphy's POV"Unless you have some better way to approach this, Thor, I suggest that you do yourselves a favor and stay away from her," I said to Thor, who seemed angry.I was not moved by his anger, nor was I feeling guilty at that moment, because the rebels are the ones who caused it upon themselves, and they knew if they were calm, Jessica would have allowed them to share the camp if only they were being nice. Being nice was not something that the rebels could do, and even though I had met her to the fact that they were rebels, I still expected some level of responsibility now that they're awake."We cannot leave our camp. We all built this place together, and we will stay." One of the rebels said, but my gaze was fixed on Thor because he seemed to be the one leading them at the moment. The kind of leader that the rebels called a timely leader who rules for a period of time and then his ruling is thrown aside because, of course, the rebels would go out of the rules no matter how fl

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 75

Murphy's POV.I followed Thor as we both left the order rebels behind the building and began to walk towards Ryan and Jessica. We were supposed to ask them if they were truly Ryan and Jessica that Darius and Isabella are looking for, and as we walked towards them, I kept thinking about a lot of things. There was no way I was going to give a sign to Ryan and Jessica to cooperate with me, and I did not know the manner in which Thor was going to ask them the question.Thinking about all of these, an idea popped into my head, and just then I turned to Thor."When we get to them, you will let me speak first and explain the situation to them so it does not seem so awkward, but you will come to them and ask if they are the people that they are not," I said to him, and the expression on his face showed that he did not agree, but then he did not say anything to disapprove. Finally we got to the building where Jessica and Alpha Ryan stayed, and as I knocked on the door, I waited anxiously for t

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 74.

Murphy's POV.I was staring at Thor in silence as I tried to process what he had just said about Alpha Darius and Isabella still combing the entire woods and valley trying to find Ryan and Jessica.Personally, I thought that by now, he would have already given up his search for them and rather focus on something else, but hearing now from Thor, a rebel wolf who rarely spoke, it meant that there was a truth in it."Did you just say that Darius and Isabella are still chasing after Ryan and Jessica? How did you come to know of this, Thor? Tell me," I demanded of him immediately. To know if he had any other information that could help me when I report this to Ryan."Not much information, Murphy. I only came across some of the soldiers, and they said that they are looking for a male wolf named Ryan who used to be Alpha of the Ashmoon Pack and a female wolf named Jessica who has a magical palace." I knew that it was very serious.Right from the moment when I joined the rebels, Thor was alwa

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 73.

Murphy's POV.My heart trembled as I followed the rebels away from Jessica and Ryan to a corner to speak. I thought, running through my head, as if all of them decided to pounce only on me and attack me, I was not going to survive it alone. I, however, did not want to cause panic across the camp, and that was why I insisted that they allow me to follow the rebel, seeing that nothing was going to go wrong and that I trusted they were not going to attack me. The truth was that I was not sure about that, and I did not know what they would want to say to me, but then I needed to take them away from Ryan and Jessica to hear whatever it is that they wanted to say.Just as we stepped behind the building, we were all standing and staring at each other as I waited for them to speak, but no one was ready to speak. They were all staring at me in silence, and I wondered what was going on. Rebels were not good with silence; they often attacked without thinking, as they felt like nothing was able t

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 72.

Ryan's POV.I was staring at Murphy when I asked him that question, and instantly he turned his gaze to me before saying in another, rather low voice. "I am not worried, Alpha; I'm just concerned about if they do not survive this thing, seeing it has taken too much effect on them," Ryan said to me, and at that moment I knew he was not speaking the truth because the look of concern was still obvious on his face, and I was rather curious to see that Murphy was concerned about others. The Murphy that I had known even before he became a rebel was never concerned about whatever anyone else was going through, but I'm so glad to see the changes in me now that he had finally confessed about the goddess. I was happy to see that he slowly began to take on the nature of a real wolf."I am happy for you, Murphy. I am glad that you are gradually conforming into the real wolves that you have always been," I said to him, and without saying a word to me, he walked over to the rebel and tried to hold

  • Her Chosen mate    Chapter 71

Ryan's POVListening to Jessica talk about a time when I would have the chance to rule over a pack that did not have as much worry as the one that we had, I doubted at the time that could ever come because all my life I had been trained to become an alpha, and even when I became the alpha of the Ashmoon Pack, I realized that the troubles of the pack were many, but I did not get to see them because I had not yet become the alpha until I was."Jessica, we do not hope for a peaceful pack, but we hope for the strength to be able to rule in peace. There is no peaceful pack anywhere, and even Ashmoon Pack, which we think is peaceful because it has a kind of ruler who seems untouchable, go to the people if you go to them, they will tell you how troubled they are. As much as I am aware, there is no peaceful pack, and all we can desperately hope for is that we have the grace of the goddess to carry on whichever assignment that she sends us over to Earth, which I always pray for every single ni
