Two years later:
“What the fuck is this?” Bella asked me in strident tones as she strolled into the dining hall that morning.
I had a headache from drinking far too much on a Sunday night and i winced, letting out a growl. It took everything in me to not be violent, what with her disgusting designer perfume, the clicking of her high heels against the echoing marble tiles and the sour mood she clearly had this morning.
“Be quiet Bella, it’s barely 7 in the fucking morning,” i warned her. She pursed her lips and slammed the papers she held on the dining table, folding her arms across from me.
“Testing? Is this what it has come to now?” She asked in disbelief. “Are you that upset about it all?”
“Testing goes both ways, Bella. And I’ve already done mine. The sooner you get yours done the sooner we can figure out why we haven’t had children yet,” I snapped at her. Her, my beloved wife of two years which I had taken as soon as the elders approved a divorce with Livia in absentia.
I couldn’t believe that after two years, my tune towards marrying Bella and throwing Livia away had changed.
True to her promise, Livia had stayed away and even my investigators couldn’t find a trace of her. Whether she had changed her name, or gone into hiding, I didn’t know. All I knew was that I was way out of my depth and this was not what I fucking expected when I married Bella.
It would have been easier if she were my true mate, for us to have children. A mate bond, a TRUE mate bond always made the process 10 times easier, the fertility doctor I hired in secret had informed me.
That had been a fucking shock to hear. Who knew the Moon Goddess had a way of fucking with us all like this? My plans of leaving Livia in the past had become next to impossible. If I could convince her with my wealth to come back and then get her pregnant, my reputation as Alpha would return.
“Are you listening to me, Zach?!” Bella yelled my name and I sighed as my wolf roiled within my body with rage.
‘Too loud,’ my wolf’s thoughts were very easy to catch. ‘Not my mate. Need my mate.’
Fuck. I had made a mistake. And it was not easy for me to admit it.
But where the fuck was Livia?
“I’ve had enough of this,” i muttered to myself, and stood, my breakfast barely touched. Then I grabbed my coat and stormed out of the dining room, leaving Bella speechless and gaping after my exit.
I had company work to do quickly before heading to a pack event, so I had to rush.
My work had become my life, and I stayed away from partying as much due to the desire for having a child filling my every day, and the Elder’s disapproval of my tanking reputation among the pack members.
I had to always head to work, to do something to distract myself. Luckily, distracting Bella was easier, all I had to do was to throw money at her and buy her gifts.
Fuck, I thought not for the first time today.
Suddenly i wondered what made me pick Bella to be my wife and the Pack’s Luna.
Work took my time and gave me a sense of calm that I had longed for.
Alas, by the time it hit 12pm, I had to return home to Bella before heading to the event for neighboring packs.
Bella as usual, looked phenomenal, showing off her figure in a skintight red sequin dress. However it made me frown, and I had to ask, “Is this what you mean by appropriate dressing, Bella? This is a daytime pack event. A luncheon. I won’t have you looking so crass.”
She looked like she was about to throw a tantrum and I gave her a warning glare.
“Change or I leave without you. You have 15 minutes.“
Her face became flushed with anger and I knew this would cause another argument by the time we returned. I didn’t care: no way was my wife and the Luna of the Crescent Pack going to turn up at this event looking like a hooker.
As soon as we entered the hall of the event, Bella made a beeline for the wine bar, and I rolled my eyes inwardly.
I went over to Augusta, the aged host of the event. She was a well-known wolf booth last accolades as a warrior and socialite in the city and the entire country.
“Ah, Alpha Zachary. Pleased you could make it,” Augusta was grinning from ear to ear. “Actually I have a few guests I need to introduce to you.”
“This is Hayden, the Alpha of the Nogjtwing Pack,” Augusta introduced. “And of course, his fiancée and daughter.”
Livia.
I recognized the moment she stepped forward and the breath was knocked out of me. She looked good. More than good, she was the most gorgeous woman in the room.
“How are you, Alpha Zach? It’s a pleasure to meet you at this event. I had wondered if the great Zach would show up today,” The Aloha of the Nightwing Pack, Hayden, began to speak, but I tuned it all out.
All I cared about was that my mate, MY Livia, was in front of me after years of searching for her.
I expected her to acknowledge me as her mate but she only turned to Hayden.
“Hayden, babe,” her words caused an unpleasant feeling in my gut. “I have to take Emerald to the restroom, okay?”
Emerald? Who the fuck was Emerald?
It was then that I noticed the little girl standing and hiding behind Livia’s legs.
A girl who looked so much like Livia, from head to toe.
What the actual fuck? I Knew then and there that I needed answers and I wouldn’t stop until I got them.
…
Bella’s POVThe thought refused to leave my mind. I was thinking about Emerald. If I could strike there, if I could tear at the very heart of that place. It would be over faster than she had ever imagined. Cleaner and final, but there was a problem. A dangerous one is Livia. My jaw tightened as I paced the length of the dim corridor, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. The sound echoed like a ticking clock, each step reminding me that time was slipping, and Livia was always watching, listening, and always knowing.“How do I move,” I muttered under my breath, my voice low and venomous, “when every thought I have might not even be mine alone?” I stopped abruptly, my fingers curling into fists.Livia’s power was suffocating. Invisible chains wrapped around my every move, every plan I built felt exposed.Unless there's something I could do to prevent her from reading my mind. My lips slowly curved into a cold smile as an idea popped into my mind.“The healer,” I muttered
Livia’s POVI paced around with anger visibly in me. It is all madness. A pure, suffocating madness that I'm finding difficult to comprehend.“What do you mean, Bella has gotten too smart?” I snapped, pacing the room like a caged animal. “She’s always been cunning, Alexa. Always add that's not new.”Alexa stood by the window, her arms folded tightly across her chest, her eyes scanning the darkness outside as though danger itself lurked between the trees.“This is different, Livia,” she said quietly, but there was an edge in her voice that made my stomach twist. “This isn’t just her being manipulative. This is calculated and strategic.”I could see the seriousness in Alexa's face as she said those words.I let out a sharp, humorless laugh. “Strategic? Bella? Please…” I said nonchalantly.“She’s recruiting,” Alexa said and my steps halted. The silence that followed was deafening.“What?” I whispered. Alexa turned to face me fully now, her expression grave. “She’s trying to coerce wolve

Chapter 87Bella’s POVA lot of thoughts were running through my mind as I paced in my room. I was restless, waiting for the call to come in.I have checked my phone minutes of times but no messages or calls have come in.“Why is she taking so long to call?” I muttered staring at the phone in my hand. ***The call finally came in just as I stood before the mirror, my fingers lingering over the slight swell of my stomach.“He’s in the car, ma’am.” the voice echoed from the other end.My lips curved, slow, deliberate, and dangerous.“Good,” I said quietly, my voice laced with satisfaction. “Keep your distance. I will handle the rest.” I ordered and the line went dead. I stood there for a moment, I didn’t move as I simply stared at my reflection, my eyes dark, calculating and alive with something almost unhinged. This was it as everything was finally aligning the way it should have from the beginning.“All I need…” I muttered, reaching for the small vial on the table, “ is control.”
Chapter 86 Bella’s POVThe moment I got out of the car. I stepped inside the new destination I have chosen. My guard went in, preparing a place for me to sit. After sitting for some minutes without Perry arriving, I became angry at why he would be keeping me waiting.I brought out my phone and placed a call to him immediately.“Where are you and why are you keeping me waiting here?” I asked immediately he picked, my voice low but to draw attention, but firm. “I'm held down with an emergency to wickedly attend to in my quarter,” Perry's voice echoed on the phone.“And you could not call to let me know?” I added angrily, unable to keep my voice down.Perry wanted to give an explanation, but I have to get him up immediately. “No need for that, I'm coming to meet you right away,” I said and ended the call instantly.“Let's go,” I ordered my guards as I stood up to take my leave.***The drive to Perry’s quarters felt longer than usual. Not because of the distance but because of the stor
Chapter 85Bella’s POVI didn’t even panic when I started noticing steps behind me. Yes, I never panicked because I thought I might not be the one being followed, but the moment I noticed the pattern. I knew something was wrong.I noted the same face twice in different places, the same footsteps echoing a second too late and my lips curled into something dangerous.“Zach…” I murmured under my breath, my voice soft but laced with cold amusement. “You really think you’re clever,” I muttered to myself with a faint smile as I leaned back in my seat, my eyes scanning the reflection in the tinted glass. I saw the man trailing me trying to look casual, but he wasn’t nearly as subtle as he thought. A shadow pretending to be invisible.“Sending someone after me?” I scoffed quietly. “That’s not just stupid, that’s insulting,” I said calmly. My fingers moved swiftly as I pulled out my phone and dialed a secure line. The call connected almost instantly.“Ma’am,” a deep voice answered.“I want e
Belle’s POVThe moment Hayden offered to drive me home, I knew exactly what I was doing, even as I tried rejecting his offer at first. As the journey continued, I enjoyed every second of it.The car glided through the quiet road that led away from the gathering hall. The night was cool, the wind br
Chapter 27Hayden’s POVThe hall was loud, too loud, laughter, glasses clinking, and Alphas pretending civility while measuring each other like predators circling the same prey, and then I felt it, a stare.I turned slightly, letting my eyes sweep the room without appearing obvious. That was when I
Chapter 26Hayden’s POVSomething had been wrong with Livia, and I noticed it the way an Alpha notices a shift in the wind before a storm. These past few days, she smiled when she had to, nodded when spoken to, and slept beside me, but she wasn’t there, not really, especially after that event.I st
Bella’s POVI hated the silence more than I hated her because everything about her pissed me off.Zachary had always been many things, such as arrogant, dominant, impatient, but never distant and unreachable. Now, when I spoke, it felt like my words hit a wall and slid to the floor. He never cared
