Aria's POV

My life in New York was simple. I worked hard day and night to become the woman I am now. I was good at my job because I believed in facts and logic.

But looking at that wedding photo, logic was dead.

I raised my trembling hand, trying to touch the portrait. But stop in mid-air, folding my fingers in a fist.

The woman in the picture wasn't just a lookalike. She was me. Every tiny detail was there, including the little scar on my chin from when I fell off my bike at seven years old.

"This is some kind of a trick," I said, trying to steady my voice.

"Aria..." Mila whispered next to me. "She has your face."

I looked at the strange man I met a few minutes ago at the airport, trying to create distance between us.

"Isabella Sterling." The way he said the name made my skin crawl. "She's my wife who died five years ago, but that was my thought. Not anymore."

My lips pressed into a thin line.

Is he insane?

Is he trying to claim me as his wife just because I look like her?

I turned to face him, trying to hide how scared I was. "I don't know who this woman is, Mr Sterling. But I am not her. I was born and brought up in New York.”

“I have never been here before today. So please, Mr Sterling, let's focus on why we are here.”

Alexander took a step toward me with his muscular frame. I could smell his perfume, and my head was screaming at me to come closer to him and perceive it well to my satisfaction.

"Isabella had a mole. Right behind her left ear."

His words hit me hard, throwing me off balance. How did he know? Nobody knew except my mom and Mila.

I turned towards Mila, who was staring at me with shock as well.

I steady my feet, turning my head towards him again. "Mr Sterling, anyone can have it."

“Your wife in that photo is wearing a wedding gown, and I don't recall wearing one or making vows with any man, especially to a stranger like you.”

His eyes were dark and intense. "What about her face? Your body? That hasn't changed."

"This is crazy, Mr Sterling!" I snapped at him, forgetting he's my client. “We came here to work and not do this. Please, let us go to our hotel or I'll call the police."

I grabbed Mila's hand, walking towards the door.

Alexander snapped his fingers. Suddenly, four huge bodyguards blocked the doors.

"You are going nowhere," Alexander said coldly.

"You will be my guest until I get answers." He looked at me, and his eyes softened for a second, which was even scarier than his anger.

"James, show the men the guest room,” he ordered. “While the lady will stay in a different room. But Ms Aria... she will stay in the Master Suite with me."

"No way!" I yelled.

“Just because I look like your wife doesn't make me one! I am not her! How many times will I ring it in your ear?”

"You've been dead for five years, Isabella. Don't make me lose you again."

As they pulled Mila and the guys away, I felt a wave of panic. I was alone with this man who thought I was his wife.

No wonder he was staring at me the whole time. I thought he was a pervert.

Haa! What a mess.

I was led up a huge staircase to a bedroom that was bigger than my whole apartment in New York. The bed was covered in white silk, and the room smelt like lilies. It was beautiful, but it felt like a prison.

The door clicked shut, and I heard the heavy sound of a lock turning.

Damn it!

I ran back to the door, turning the knob, but it was already locked.

“Hey! Open this door now!" I hit it for a long time until my palms turned red.

I leaned my back against it, dropping my knee to the floor. My heart was thumping so hard it felt like it was going to burst through my ribs.

Still staring at the blank space, something watery touches my knee. That's when I realised I've been crying.

I wiped my tears with the back of my palm, standing to my feet. I walked over to the massive mirror in the corner of the room.

The gold frame around it was beautiful, but the woman staring back at me looked like a stranger. I pulled my hair back and looked at the skin behind my left ear.

There it was. A tiny, dark mole.

"How come?" I whispered; my voice sounded small in the giant room.

This man, Alexander Sterling, acted like he had memorised every inch of my body.

No. I think it's just a coincidence, or…

Then, that’s when I realised why he was staring at my ear earlier.

That sly fox.

I need to get out of here at all costs.

I sat at the edge of the bed, lost in thought when a weird memory flashed in my head. I heard the sound of crashing water and someone screaming.

"Isabel! Isabel, look at me!"

I gasped, grabbing my head and squeezing my eyes shut. My head throbbed with a sharp pain.

Aria POV I opened my eyes to find him moving back, calmly pulling a clean shirt from the valet stand right beside where I was pinned. As he slid his arms into the sleeves, his gaze raked over my form.“What are you doing here, Aria? You should be sleeping in your room. Or did you come in here tonight to seduce me with that choice of outfit.”Confused, I looked down at myself to see my chest partially exposed and my nipples fully visible through the material. Oh God! I instantly crossed my palms over my chest, burning with mortification. “I… I didn't mean to dress like this.”Stupid girl. I should have looked in a mirror before going into a man's room at midnight. He was a red-blooded man after all, and my tight pajamas were accentuating every single curve of my body. A shudder ran down my spine as the vulnerability of the moment sank in. I felt so embarrassed, remembering the way he was looking at me earlier. In

Aria's POV Alexander's dad turned slowly to me, his eyes widened – a look of genuine confusion washing over his features.“The boss?” He took a half-step back, tilting his head. “Who is that? I've never heard of anyone by that name.”"You... you’ve really never heard of him.”“No,” he said, his concern deepening as he stepped towards me, his brow furrowing. He reached out a hand as if to steady me. “What's going on, Isabella? Do you perhaps know this person you're talking about? Which organisation does this boss belong to?I blinked rapidly, trying to process his reaction. His confusion looked too real to fake. This means the entire family is completely in the dark. Alexander had been keeping the threat, the attacks, and this… all to himself.A chill ran down my spine. Why? What is really going on here? Am I missing something?"Erm… sir…” I stammered, pulling my tho

Aria's POV James cleared his throat as he adjusted his tie.“Mr Sterling gave strict orders to have these delivered to you. We will pick you up promptly at 7:00 PM. Have a pleasant day, ma’am.” With a polite but dismissive nod, he signalled the maids, who placed the expensive items gently onto the bed and exited. I threw my hands up in exasperation. Unbelievable! Even his assistant is showing me attitude.Staring at the items, I moved over to the drawer, rummaging through it until my fingers wrapped around a pair of heavy scissors. I walked back to the bed and unzipped the black garment bag, exposing the gown hidden inside. I caught my breath, looking at the gown. It was a stunning, ash-silver diamond-encrusted gown. It featured a daring, completely open back, a sleeveless silhouette, and an elegant turtleneck collar that shimmered brilliantly under the light. It was breathtaking and likely cost more than m

Aria's POV I yawned softly, stretching my stiff muscles. The moment I extended my leg. My bare foot touched something solid and warm.My eyes flew open as my heart seized in my chest when I realised I was looking directly into a sleeping handsome face just inches from mine. An intense heat washed over me.He had lied to me. He said he will sleep in his study room. So what was he doing here next to me?Without thinking straight, I kicked him out with all the strength I had, pushing him hard across the floor. He slid uncontrollably, his back colliding against the bedstand with a dull thud. His sleepy eyes snapped open, blinking in confusion as he rubbed his shoulder.“What the hell was that for?” He asked, tossing the tangled blanket off his legs. He aggressively swung his feet around and stood up. “I should be asking you that question!” I stood quickly, wrapping my arms tightly around myself. “What are you doing on the floor next to me? I thought you said you were going to sleep in

Alexander's POV My gaze searched over the room until I finally spotted her, curling up on a spare blanket she had dragged onto the tiled floor, her eyes tightly shut.Seeing her safe and breathing soundly, I let out a shaky breath, my shoulders finally relaxing.I walked towards her and knelt on the cold floor and took the edge of the blanket, which had slipped down to her waist, and gently pulled it up to her neck.I lingered there, my gaze tracing her delicate lashes, the slope of her nose and the soft curve of her lips. Even in her sleep, she was breathtaking. A familiar ache bloomed in my chest. I wondered how the hell I had survived five years without her. Those years had been so terrible and unbearable. I had almost given up entirely, pulling myself out of the dark only for the sake of our son.Now that you're back, Isabella, I’m never letting you go. My head leant down, intending to touch a soft kiss on he
