Chapter 49

Farren's Point of View

We spoke and shivered and spoke some more. Alejandro would never interrupt me. Would nod his head when appropriate and brushed away any tears that spilled from my cheek. I savored the touch. Was bewildered to think that I let someone so close to me again. But he was soft. Careful. Nothing compared to what I had thought him to be.

When the rain began to breach the grove, he tucked me beneath his arm. Sheltered me best he could from the cold. Gentle kisses would land on my hair when I became too frantic to get the words out. The pain and betrayal I felt.

He was patient. Someone I needed at this moment in time. The goddess had sent him, I was sure of it. She had seen into my heart and knew I wouldn't be able to bare this alone. So, she had let him run out into the rain to comfort me.

"Why are you here?" I whispered, plucking at a clover to my left. Alejandro stiffened. His arm became leaden around me.

"I had a fight with Camilo." He offered up. I nodded.
