Amelie POV

Shivering in excitement, I walk with Jaxon, Kate, and Colby to the clearing where I would have my first shift.  Jaxon has been my boyfriend for this past year.  I was turning eighteen in a month.  Signs that I would shift tonight had started earlier in the evening.  Nobody knew why but after the initial shock, many of our Pack members had come out for my first shift.  I came from a long line of Alphas, and it was simply a question of what color my wolf would be.

Jaxon held my hand as we walked through the forest.  We would not know if we were mates tonight, but we would be able to be excited that we both had wolves and would be able to go for runs together.  I hoped with all my heart that Jaxon was my mate.  He was perfect.  He was comfortable waiting for us to be intimate until we knew if we were mates or not.  It mattered to me to wait.  Not that anyone had told me I had to, I simply wanted something special with my mate.

Jaxon squeezes my hand pulling me out of my deep thoughts, “Nervous?” he asks me in a whisper.  “A little,” I reply quietly.  I was anxious as I had not yet heard from my wolf.  Kate assured me everyone’s wolf showed itself at different times and asked me not to worry needlessly.  “You will be amazing,” he assures me with all the confidence in the world.  I smile my thanks back to him.

Kate and Colby stop at the clearing and turn to look at me.  “This is your time, baby girl,” Kate says to me.  She has been calling me baby girl since she first met me when I was six years old.  She was Colby’s mate and was more like an adopted mom to me, although I thought of her as my mom.

My parents had died when I was three, and my uncle Colby had raised me on his own, until he met his mate, Kate.  Then they raised me together with their two pups Oliver and Olivia.  I had thought I would be jealous of the twins, but we meshed as a perfect family would.  They were too young to be out here for my first shift.  Just as well.  Shifting could take time.  And it could be painful.  I would not want them to be traumatized by my shifting.

Kate pulls me toward the cover of the trees.  “You can leave your clothes here and just leave on your sports bra and shorts,” she suggests.  I walk over behind the cover of the trees and shed my clothes.  Although wolves are used to being naked in front of one another, I am not quite comfortable showing off my nakedness in front of the others in my Pack.

Ten minutes left and I would be an Alpha wolf.  I felt nerves rolling inside my stomach as I patiently waited for my wolf to make an appearance in my mind.  I was feeling antsy about the missing wolf but relied on Kate’s assurances that my wolf would come when she was ready.  Five minutes.  I could feel the excitement buzz across the Pack members who were present.  I had grown up as the darling Alpha orphan my whole life.  Many would have been spoiled brats, but both Kate and Colby had never allowed that.

Jaxon moves forward to give me a hug, “Just breathe,” he tells me as he steps back to give me space.  Colby pulls me in tightly, “I am proud of you Amelie, you will always be my little girl,” he shares with me.  I feel tears start in my eyes, but I blink quickly so they do not fall.  He smiles softly as he wipes one lone tear off my cheek.

Kate steps forward pulling me away from both Colby and Jaxon.  She will help me with the shift and talk me through the pain.  “Ten seconds,” someone shouts from behind Colby.  I feel a wave of calm wash over me.  I am ready for this moment.  I have been ready and prepared my whole life.

“Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one …,” everyone counted in excitement.  I closed my eyes and waited.  Nothing.  Opening my eyes, I look to Kate who is excitedly watching me.  Nothing.  I heard nothing.  I felt nothing.  Tears started to choke me.  Kate’s smile falters as I feel her move toward me.

I step backwards, wanting to give myself a moment.  She was right there; I could feel her.  She was struggling to break through.  Suddenly pain consumes my body.  I fall to my knees as Kate moves closer to me.  I shrug her off not wanting anyone to touch me.  I can hear everyone gasping as I start to writhe in pain.  I could hear cries of alarm from the crowd.  Kate was on her hands and knees trying to talk me through the pain.  I hear none of her words as I was too focused on helping my wolf.

Nobody expected this.  Nobody expected my shift would be so brutal.  I felt more than saw Jaxon take a step away from me.  Colby moved forward placing his hands on my shoulder, murmuring to me, “What is wrong?” he asks.  “I do not know,” I reply.  I feel panic start to rise in my body.

What did this mean?  Would I be stuck between wolf and human forever?  Colby looked to Kate, “We need to force the shift,” he says to Kate.  Kate had tears streaming down her eyes.  “Give her a few more minutes,” Kate replies simply staring at me.  “It has already been an hour, Kate.  It usually takes fifteen minutes at best for your first shift.  We are torturing her, for Goddess’s sake,” he snarls as he tries to calm me with his Alpha presence.

Trying to remain calm, Kate nods to Colby.  Colby, using his strongest Alpha command, “Shift now, Amelie!” he roars.  I scream in agony as my body contorts into the shape of my wolf.  I feel residual pain vibrating through my body as I lay there in the grass panting, unable to move.

  • Her Ultimate Salvation   Chapter 175 - Risk

Amelie POV I had been sitting in my office staring at the blank screen for the last hour. I have never felt so lost as I did when they drove away with Alexa. I know I had only known her a brief period of time, but most of that had been spent with constant turmoil. I had no idea if I would see her again or if we would get the chance to build our bond. Of course, everyone is saying we will see each other, and everything will be the same. I know it will not be. How could it? I have a pup on the way, which will take precedence over everything else and rightly so. Alexa will need to start building her own life with Will. We still have the threat of our father kidnapping us. I knew letting her go was the right thing to do, but it did not make dealing with the reality any easier. I felt alone but I was not alone. I had Matt and he would help me get through this. As if manifesting him, there was a soft tap on the door and Matt entered my office.

  • Her Ultimate Salvation   Chapter 174 - Gone

Matt POV It gutted me standing beside Amelie as Will left with Alexa. Colby followed behind, after promising to notify Amelie when they arrived. I knew Alexa would be safe with Will. He had given me all his contact information. Confirmed he would not be introducing Alexa as his mate to anybody. He still needed his leg to heal. Our medical team had done all that they could – they had advised Will it would take time to heal. I can appreciate nobody wants to hear that, and that he would want a second opinion. I simply hoped he would get the answers he was hoping for. We stood in the same spot long after the taillights had disappeared down the road. I could feel Amelie through our bond. She was distraught and barely holding herself together. “Let’s go back inside to our room,” I suggested as Amelie stood as stiff as a board. “I have work to catch up on,” she said, turning to go inside to her office. I caught her hand, “Sweetheart,

  • Her Ultimate Salvation   Chapter 173 - Visitor

Matt POV I was right. It had been a long night with a lot of tears and anger. Amelie was so distraught I had to threaten her that the doctor would come and give her something to relax if she did not calm down. She looked at me bitterly, before taking a deep breath, and simply ignored me while speaking softly to Alexa. Alexa was more at peace now that she was out of the hospital. Will had come over and stayed at the pack house with us. He gave Amelie some much needed space to spend the night with her sister. Will and I spoke and I made it clear to him Amelie would be visiting once she had our pup. He was more than fine with it, “I never wanted to separate them. But given the risks to my mate, I strongly believe she would be safer away from here,” Will shared. I could not deny he was right. I had a traitor in my pack and until I found them, nobody would be safe. Both Amelie and Alexa were at risk of being recaptured. That thought

  • Her Ultimate Salvation   Chapter 172 - Breathe

Matt POV I raced down towards the main floor, yelling orders to those I met to get upstairs and bring the Beta down immediately. Nurses and orderlies were racing up the stairs to get Blake. I scanned the floor, busier now with the sick children. I scanned until I found the bastard who had deemed Blake unsavable. I moved forward until I was standing in front of the doctor who I left to look after Blake. “Where is he?” I questioned. I knew from the look on his face, the doctor knew exactly what I was talking about. “He was sent upstairs to die,” the doctor admitted, not looking a tad bit guilty. “I left you with implicit instructions to save him; why did you disobey my orders?” I demanded. The doctor had a drip of water slip down his brow, as he startled to buckled under my Alpha command. “Alpha, there were others who came in. We needed the room,” the doctor started to mutter, when I cut him off. “And yet there is nobody in his roo

  • Her Ultimate Salvation   Chapter 171 - Control

Matt POV I had been watching Amelie as we walked back to the hospital. We slept in this morning, giving Amelie a much-needed break. She was panicked when she first woke up, but I assured her all was calm at the hospital. She paused for a moment, before dragging me into the shower with her. Then I had arranged for breakfast to be brought to our room, so there was no sense of urgency. I needed to know Amelie was able to be taken care of as much as she was taking care of everyone else. As we entered the hospital, I saw some children in the waiting room. It was rare for kids to be sick, so I was surprised to see what looked like fevered children. We walked through the doors and down the hall to Alexa’s room. Amelie looked at me, while I leaned down and kissed her, “I will be back, I want to check on something,” I said, assuring her I would not be far. She entered Alexa’s room as I turned to find the head doctor on duty today. I found her staring

  • Her Ultimate Salvation   Chapter 170 - Unknown

Amelie POV I lay back on our soft pillows as Matt finished getting ready for bed. He came out of the washroom, switching off lights on his way to our bed. He got in bed, pulling me into his arms. He kissed my forehead, “It will all work out, sweetheart,” he murmured as I snuggled further into his arms. “How?” I asked, before continuing, “I just got my sister, and now I am going to lose her,” I shared, tears in my voice. Matt held me tighter, “You will not lose her; she will just be in a different pack,” Matt reminded me. “You do not understand. I have not had any time with her. And now I will lose her; I do not know if she will even accept Will,” I stated. Matt chuckled, “I do not think Will “will” give her much of a choice,” he said. I frowned, looking up at him, “That will be worse. She has had no choice her entire life. She needs to feel in control of something,” I said, slapping Matt for laughing. “The Moon Goddess knows better than
