Elara – POV

Maren doesn’t speak right away after showing me the message.

She just watches my face, like she’s gauging how much truth I can handle before it breaks into something sharper. The room feels smaller suddenly, the walls pressing in with the weight of words that haven’t been said yet.

“The Ring Pack?” I ask quietly.

She nods. “Yes.”

My stomach tightens. “But your mate”

“Is loyal,” she says. “Which doesn’t mean the pack is united.”

She takes the communicator back from my hands, as if the message itself might burn me if I hold it too long.

“They’re watching you,” she continues. “Not hunting. Not yet. But interested.”

That word again.

Interested.

It settles into my chest like a stone.

“Why?” I ask. “I don’t have power. I don’t have land. I don’t even have a mate.”

Maren exhales slowly. “You’re unmarked. From a respected line. Quiet. And now…” she hesitates.

“Now what?”

“Now you’ve been seen by the Alpha King.”

The room goes quiet.

I turn toward the window, watching the Dimlight Pack move through the early evening. Everything looks normal. Families gathering. Guards changing shifts. Life going on like nothing dangerous is circling beneath it.

“So what does this mean?” I ask.

“It means you need to be careful what you say,” she replies. “And to whom.”

I nod, though my thoughts are already racing ahead—to Kael, to the way he stood between me and danger like it was instinct, to the certainty in his voice when he said they would answer to him.

Does he know?

Before I can ask, there’s a knock at the door.

Maren stiffens. I feel it too—the shift in the air, subtle but unmistakable.

When she opens the door, Rowan stands there, relaxed as ever, hands tucked into his pockets like he’s visiting friends instead of delivering news.

“Elara,” he greets, warm and easy. “Maren.”

She blinks in surprise. “You’re far from home.”

“So is your Alpha King,” he replies lightly.

My heart stutters.

“He’s returning to the Moon Pack tonight,” Rowan continues. “He wanted me to tell you personally.”

I swallow. “Why?”

Rowan’s gaze flicks to Maren, then back to me. “Something came up.”

Something always does.

“I understand,” I say, though I don’t.

Rowan hesitates, then adds, “He wanted you to know he didn’t leave lightly.”

That matters more than it should.

Before he leaves, I say softly, “Be careful on the road back.”

Rowan smiles, but there’s a flicker of thought behind it. “We always are.”

After the door closes, Maren turns to me slowly.

“You didn’t tell him,” she says.

“No,” I reply. “Not everything.”

“What did you tell him?”

I think of the message. The warning. The interest.

“I said… sometimes being seen makes things complicated.”

She nods. “That’s true.”

But I can tell she knows it wasn’t the whole truth.

Rowan – POV

Elara’s words stick with me longer than I expect them to.

Sometimes being seen makes things complicated.

She didn’t sound afraid when she said it. She sounded aware.

As we ride back toward the Moon Pack, Kael is silent beside me. He always is when something weighs on him, but tonight the air around him feels heavier, darker.

“You delivered the message?” he asks eventually.

“Yes.”

“And?”

“She understands,” I say carefully.

He doesn’t respond.

We reach the Moon Pack gates just after nightfall. The guards straighten instantly. Power recognizes power.

Inside his chambers, Kael moves with purpose removing his cloak, unfastening his gloves, already shifting his attention toward strategy.

“You should rest,” I say.

“I will,” he replies. “After this.”

I hesitate. “Elara said something.”

That gets his attention.

“What?”

I repeat her words exactly.

He still goes.

“That’s not a random thought,” he says quietly.

“No,” I agree. “It sounds like a warning.”

He turns toward the window, gaze sharp. “The Ring Pack.”

“You think so?”

“I know so.”

Kael – POV

The Ring Pack does not move without reason.

They never have.

I stand at the edge of my territory, looking out into the dark stretch of land beyond. Somewhere out there, a rival Alpha is considering possibilities testing boundaries without openly challenging them.

Interest without aggression.

Clever.

“They won’t challenge you directly,” Rowan says behind me. “Not yet.”

“They won’t need to,” I reply. “Not if they think patience will serve them better.”

My thoughts return to her quiet, unassuming, stronger than anyone gives her credit for. Unmarked, and now known.

Dangerous.

“She’s not a prize,” Rowan says firmly.

“I know.”

“But others won’t,” he continues.

I turn back to him, letting a fraction of my presence surface. The room tightens instantly.

“Then they will learn,” I say calmly.

Rowan studies me. “You’re stepping into something you can’t undo.”

“I already have.”

Silence stretches.

Finally, he says, “What’s your next move?”

I look toward the map on the table, where Dimlight Pack borders are marked in careful ink.

“I protect what falls under my watch,” I say. “Whether I stand beside it or not.”

Rowan exhales. “You’re going to draw attention.”

“Yes.”

“And Elara?”

I don’t answer right away.

Then, quietly, “She already has.”

Far away, in the Ring Pack territory, an Alpha reads the same report twice.

Unmarked.

Seen by the Moon King.

Protected but not claimed.

He smiles.

“Prepare the envoy,” he says. “I want to meet her.”

And for the first time, Kael feels a threat not aimed at his crown,

But at what he has not yet admitted he wants.

Elara POVI woke up earlier than usual, long before the sun had fully claimed the sky. The room felt different, quieter, as though something had shifted in the night while I slept. For a moment I remained still, staring at the ceiling, letting my mind gather itself. The events from yesterday pressed heavily against my chest, but I refused to let fear root me to this bed.I had to prove myself. Not just to them.To myself.I pushed the covers aside and rose, moving with quiet determination. I dressed carefully, tying my hair back firmly, fastening the leather straps around my wrists for training. If anyone in this pack thought I was fragile or weak because of what happened, they were mistaken.I would not be pitied.I stepped outside the room and began walking downstairs. The halls were alive with the faint scent of wood smoke and morning meals, but something else lingered beneath it—tension. I hadn’t seen Kael since I woke up. The other side of the bed had been cool when I touched it.

Kael POVThe forest did not lie.It never had.Every broken twig carried intention. Every disturbed patch of soil held memory. Every lingering scent told a story to those strong enough to hear it. And tonight, the woods were speaking clearly to me.I slowed my pace, lowering my head as I inhaled deeply. The night air was thick with pine and damp earth, but beneath it lingered something acrid. Something unsettled.Fear.Not Elara’s.Male.My paws pressed firmly into the ground as I followed the faint trail winding through the trees. Whoever it was had attempted to blur his scent by moving through shallow water and brushing against resin-heavy shrubs. It was clever. But not clever enough.I was not simply Alpha of this pack.I was Alpha King. The trail curved sharply toward the eastern quadrant of the territory, where the guards’ quarters stood like silent sentinels. My muscles tightened as understanding sharpened into certainty. The scent intensified.Rhode.A low growl vibrated from d

  • Hidden Identity: My Demi God, the Alpha King   Chapter Thirty-Four: The Storm Beneath the Crown

Kael POV The night air felt different when I stepped outside. It was no longer calm or peaceful; it carried the bitter taste of failure. I stood at the edge of the courtyard, staring into the darkness beyond the walls, my jaw clenched so tightly it ached. I should not have left her alone for that long. No matter how secure this pack was, no matter how many guards surrounded this place, I should have known that danger did not always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it waited. Sometimes it watched. And tonight, someone had watched her. The thought made my wolf snarl inside me, claws scraping against my restraint. Whoever dared to touch her had already signed his death sentence. I did not need proof to know that; I could feel it in the air, in the way the wind shifted, in the faint scent of fear that lingered on the stone floor where she had collapsed. Rowen approached quietly, but I sensed him long before he reached my side. His steps were controlled, careful, as though he alrea

  • Hidden Identity: My Demi God, the Alpha King   Chapter Thirty-three: Shadows at the Gate

Elara POVI stepped out into the night, the cool air brushing against my skin, the soft glow of the lanterns casting long shadows across the courtyard. The stone paths stretched out before me, silent and serene, and I felt a strange calm as I breathed it all in. The world at night in the Moon Pack grounds felt alive but strangely empty, as if the darkness itself was watching.“Ma, do you want me to go with you?” Ava’s voice came softly from behind me.“I just want to walk a bit,” I said, closing the door behind me. The weight of the day still clung to me, the training, Kael’s presence, everything swirling in my mind. I wanted a moment to breathe, to see the pack under the quiet of night. As I turned to admire the moonlight on the pillars and the glint of silver in the walls, a voice behind me froze me in place. “Ma, would you like me to show you around?” I looked up sharply and saw Rhode standing there, his presence solid and unnerving, his dark eyes fixed on me.My stomach tightened

Elara’s POV “Send Ava to bring her meal upstairs. She is too tired to come down.” The voice reached me through the haze of sleep, firm but quiet. For a moment, I thought I was dreaming. Then I opened my eyes. The ceiling above me was unfamiliar only for a second before memory returned. Kael’s room. Training. The ache in my muscles. I shifted slightly and winced. Every part of me felt as though it had been stretched beyond its limit. My arms protested even the smallest movement. “Kael?” I said, my voice soft, almost questioning. He stood near the door, speaking briefly to someone outside before closing it. When he turned toward me, his expression softened just slightly. “You should still be asleep,” he said as he crossed the room. I pushed myself upright anyway. He reached me in two strides and caught my hands before I could fully stand. His grip was steady but gentle as he guided me back toward the bed. “You need to rest,” he said quietly. “Ava will bring your

Elara pov The ache in my thighs deepened suddenly, and the strength I had been forcing into my spine slipped away without warning. My vision tilted slightly, and before my knees could touch the ground, strong arms wrapped around me.Kael lifted me effortlessly.I barely had time to gasp before I was pressed securely against his chest, one arm beneath my knees and the other supporting my back. The scent of him surrounded me instantly, grounding me before embarrassment could.“You were about to collapse,” he murmured, his voice low but not mocking.“I was not,” I protested weakly, though I could barely hold my head up.A faint smile curved at the corner of his lips. “You did well today, my queen.”His eyes searched my face as he carried me up the staircase, he was watchful in a way that made my heart soften despite my exhaustion.I rested my forehead lightly against his shoulder, too tired to argue. The world felt distant. He carried me upstairs as if it was the most natural thing in
