Rio

I have finally lost it.

Marriage, really, marriage. That was definitely not what I had in mind when I geared myself up to see her today. Apparently, I’m not the only one thinking I have lost it.

“Are you kidding me?”  Mel was staring at me in shock. “Marry you?”

Since I have gotten myself here, I thought, might as well play with it.

“It’s for a set period of time. Six months like I said and you will get paid.”

“I get money, right?” She asked, walking towards the open window in the room.

“Yes, five hundred thousand dollars, wired to any account of your choosing” I answered.

Mel turned towards me, staring at me quite intensely. “What do you gain from our arrangement?”

Silence hangs in the air as we stare at each other.

I remember the first time I saw her two years ago. Not a memory I’m really fond, but still I had searched until I saw her again, six months ago in that tiny little bar. I have basically stalked her since then. So, when that dumbass Jack mentioned she was his sister and offered her for his debt, I didn’t really have an idea on what do with her other than I wanted her for myself.

I stood, suddenly having the urge to touch her. As I closed the distance between us, she backed away from me. I stroked my fingers down her arm and could feel her shiver. I felt like a predator staking his prey, but I couldn’t resist. The object of my fantasies was mine for the taking. I lowered my head to place a kiss on her neck.

“I won’t be your sex toy.” She breathed.

That stopped me in my tracks and I stepped back from her. “Sex toy?”

“I’m not dumb.” She suddenly sounded angry. “I’m sure you are used to paying ladies for sex. I’m not some hooker you can just pay to fuck whenever you get the whim.”

In my 28 years on this earth, I have never had to pay for sex nor has anyone ever rejected me. Ladies tend to come easily, well, until Mel. I was intrigued.

“I don’t recall calling you a hooker.”

“I’m not interested in you.” She sounded like she was trying to convince herself.

“That’s not how you felt last night.” I teased.

“I don’t want you thinking I’m easy”. She responded. “That was just a drunken mistake, besides nothing happened”.

I raise my brows in question. Her cumming on my hands was not exactly nothing. So, she wanted to play hard to get, I smile to myself. Well, Rio Rafe never backed away from a challenge.

“I know I hurt your pride yesternight”. A snort response from her made me pause. “I apologize. But I do have a reason why I need to get married.” My mind scrambled for the easiest explanation I could think of. “My family wants me to get married, so I can deal with my acclaimed playboy persona and finally take over the legitimate side of business.” I lied. “You my dear, would be a good solution to my little problem.”

There was some truth to my lie though. Since the return of my elder brother, Dante, from prison two years, he had decided to stay on the low, dealing only with the mafia side of business, leaving me to control our clean front. It’s been a smooth ride, especially since I was still under my father, but lately, he has been dropping hints on retiring and some stakeholders didn’t think I was mature enough to handle the company.

I rolled a piece of paper on the table in a ring form. Seeing no reason why I couldn’t enjoy myself, I went down on one knee and took her hands.

“So, my darling, will you marry me?” I said smiling at her.

Mel stood as if shocked until I winked at her. She then blushed and tugged her hands from mine.

Hmm, so my Mel was the shy type, I thought, this should be fun.

“Before I agree to anything, I want a written-out contract.” She said.

“Done.”

“Also, we should set some rules.”

I took her hands again, I couldn’t stop touching her. “Like?”

“No sex.”  She said firmly.

“You sure seem to be obsessed with this sex stuff.” I say jokily.

“I’m not.” She whined.

“You have already stated you weren’t interested in me, my darling, why bring it up again?” I ask, eyeing her.

“Just making sure.” She insisted.

“Yeah, sure.” I kiss her hands. For someone not interested in me, she sure wasn’t complaining. “Is that all?”

“No extravagant wedding.”

“It can be simple sure, but a lot people have to be invited or it would be a sign of war among the mafia. I don’t need that.” I explained. “Moreover, I’m sure your brother has other debtors. When I publicly announce you as my wife, it will steer them away from you and keep you safe.”

“Speaking of my excuse of a brother, what’s going to happen there?”

“That’s simple, my darling.” I walk to the table to pour myself a bottle of scotch. All these talking was making my throat burn. I had sincerely expected her to jump into my arms and beg me to take her. I mean, they all did. But not Mel, I guess. “Your brother and I hadn’t finalized anything yet. Also, he lied about you agreeing to this, so I can end our deal easily.”

She sighed as if relieved and sat back on the chair with her head on her hands.” You said I can walk out, without any harm, even if I don’t agree to your deal.”

I hated the surge of panic I felt. “Yes, you can. You won’t face any harm from me or mine. I give you my word”. I stare at her, trying my best to not let her see I was scared of her saying no. “You don’t have to give me an answer immediately.” I added quickly. “You can go home and think about…”

“Yes.” She said

“Yes?” I ask.

“Let’s fuck Jack up and get fake married.” She said, smiling.

I don’t think I have seen a more beautiful sight. Let’s the games begin, my darling Mel.

“I will send someone to your home to pick up the essential things you may need, then we can leave.”

“I had a bag with me when your goons took me. All my essentials are in there. I don’t need anything else”

“Just one bag, really?” I questioned her

“I’m not vain, unlike others.” She said, mocking me. “Wait, why do we need my belongings though?”

“Cause you, my darling, are moving in with me today.” I announced.

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY- NINE

RIO POV“You know that you almost made your poor wife piss her pants.” Dante said out of the blue, breaking the silence, I had been enjoying since we drove out of the estate. “Poor girl almost broke down crying.”If crying would knock some sense into her, then so be it.I have a potential sex-trafficker that may or may not be involved in my mother’s death to think about, instead of worrying about Mel.What was she worked up about? I wondered. It’s just a damn blood test.“Also, if you are not going to the office, why am I driving you?” Dante asked“Would you have willingly driven me to the company, for no reason?”“Maybe you are also worried about being out on your own? And who better than your big brother, to protect you?”I scoffed at the sheer absurdity of what he had said and he smirked. “Seriously, Dante. Fuck you.” I gave him the middle finger.“Yeah, yeah.” He said, still grinning. The marker on the GPS beeped, signaling a turn off the highway. Following it, Dante turned into

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY- EIGHT

MEL POVI stood, even after the doors slammed shut, frozen in Nonna’s arms. This is the first time I have actually felt scared of Rio. Like actual fear.“You know he didn’t mean to be harsh.” Nonna murmured softly. “He just wants to make sure that you are safe.”Safe? I wasn’t even sure if I was safe in this home anymore.“Mel.” Nonna nudged me. “You have to listen to him.”I turned to her, fury blazing in my eyes. “I can’t stay locked up here for good, Nonna.”“It’s not for good.” She said. “Mel, think of all the pressure you will be putting him under if he has to constantly worry about you. He loves you.”I felt exploding when she said that, because I was getting sick of this stupid lie. Rio doesn’t love me, he just wants a fuck buddy.“This sucks.” I grumbled and collapsed on the chair.“I know. But at least your color is back.” She tugged my cheeks. “You don’t look as pale as you did last night. You gave me a fright.”“I am sorry.” I murmured.“About what?” Nonna sat beside me. “

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY- SEVEN

MEL POVI don’t think I have slept so soundly before in my entire life.No nightmares. No headaches. Nothing at all.I could barely even remember what had happened yesterday. Well apart from the part where I found out my mother was abused in her loveless marriage and that I was the love child between her and a mafia lord.I couldn’t never forget that even if tried.“Halo.” Dante opens the room’s door and peeks his head in. “Decent enough in there?”“Hey, you have to knock first.” I yell at him. “I could have been naked in here.”“Rio would have liked that.” He enters and lies on the bed immediately. “I was sent to check if you were still sleeping as you were a no show for breakfast.”“I just woke up.”That is a lie, because I had woken up just in time for breakfast but eventually decided against it. I was not ready to stomach pitying remarks and looks from anyone at the moment.Maybe that’s why Nonna sent Dante, because his sarcasm was definitely more appreciated.“Are you feeling goo

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY- SIX

RIO POV“She is finally sleeping.” Nonna walks into the living room where the rest of the family had gathered looking distressed. “The poor girl is in so much pain. I had to give her some sleeping pills just to calm her down.”Mel had cried all the way back to the estate, that I had actually considered calling a doctor, but Nonna had offered to take care of her, while I reported the situation to my family.“Is she going to be alright?” Nick asks. “She did not look fine.”“She will be alright, my love.” Nonna pats his hair to comfort him. “She just has to come to terms with the new situation.”“Am I the only still confused here?” Dante suddenly blurts. “Because this all sounds like a badly written telenovela.”“Dante, this is not the time for jokes.” Nonna scolds him.“But I am not joking, Nonna.” He turns to me. “You are telling me, that Leo Draco showed up at your office with claims of your wife, possibly being the product of a love affair he had years ago, and simultaneously, your w

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY- FIVE

RIO POVI walk Signor Leo to the elevator. “Have a good day sir.” I say when the doors open.“Thank you.” He answers, but holds my hands before I can turn away. “I know it is hard to believe, but I am serious. If you can just let me talk to her, I am even willingly to take a DNA test to prove.”I am still having a hard time believing what he had told me earlier in the office so I just nod. “Don’t worry, Signor. I will reach out to you.”“Thank you.” He finally let’s go of my hands and walks into the elevator. I remain rooted to the ground even after the doors close.‘I believe your wife is my daughter.’Those were the words that Leo Draco had said that had left me dumbfounded. His reason for thinking so were equally absurd. A striking resemblance to his lost lover. “The man’s old age must be getting to him.” I conclude. But he seemed so certain.I glance to the clock on the hall way. Its 2pm. Almost closing hours, I still haven’t the chance to reach Mel. She should be home by now tho

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR

MEL POV“So, my mother was cheating on her husband?”“I am not trying to justify her actions.” Sister Mary murmurs. “But she was young and naïve. First getting married for money and then falling for the first man who showed some kindness after years of abuse from her marriage. The world dealt her a hard blow.”“Still, she made her choice.” I recall Mrs. Park remarks. If this dumb Ava was my mother, then I am nothing like her. Not really.“Yes, she did.” Sister nods, solemnly. “Anyways after that day, she moved into one of the spare rooms in the church, waiting for the love of her life.”“He didn’t come back, did he? My real father?”“No. I had feared that was going to happen. That he had completely fooled her and taken advantage of her innocence. She would write letters to the address that he gave her but no response. Days turned into weeks turned into months but poor Ava still held faith that he will come for her. She held that faith even after she gave birth to you.” Sister Mary smi

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY- THREE

SISTER MARY POVFLASH BACK.“Oh, my dear Sister Mary.” Ava runs to me after the end of service and hugs me. “I have missed you so much.”“I have missed you, dear Ava.” I hug her tight. “It’s been so long. You just vanished. I thought I would never see this pretty smile again.”“I am so sorry, sister. I have been… living.” She laughs.“I can see that. You are have grown but you look so vibrant just like the old Ava I know. It seems being married suits you well. Are you alone?” I look around for the usual pair of watchful eyes, but there was none. “You didn’t come with your husband today?”“No. He is away on a business trip. That is the reason I was able to come here today.”“I heard he wants you to focus on being a good house wife.”“No, sister.” Ava pulls me into my office and locks the door. “He is evil and wicked. He beats me for no reason at all and locks me up in my room for days. I can’t stand it anymore. Look,” She lifts up her sleeves to show scars on her arms, and all over her

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO

MEL POV“What could they be talking about in there?” Angie murmurs, while putting her ear on the door’s peephole, so she could listen to the whispering happening outside the door.“Will you just relax?” I pull her away from the door. “At this rate, you will get us kicked out of here. You should be grateful that Sister Mary told us to wait for her in this office.”“It is called being polite. Nuns are trained to be that way.” She frowns. “But I don’t think Sister Martha attended those lessons. You see the way she just turned on us like we were evil spirit she was trying to cast away. She was all smiling faces and kisses and within a twinkle of the eye, she was so eager to make us leave.”“I noticed it too.” I nod. “And it was after she saw my name and Mrs. Park’s name on the computer.”“Exactly.” Angie yelps. “For a second, I thought she had seen the devil or something. I tell you, something fishy is going on in this place.”“Shh.” I reach over to cover her mouth. “I think they are comi

  • Hidden Obsessions   CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE

RIO POVAfter a round of drinks with some of the board members to celebrate my election into the CEO position, I am in great need of some peace and quiet. Drinking during the day is not really my strong suit. So, coming back to find Mr. Jim lurking around my office door is not a pleasing sight. I tiptoe to his back and whisper softly. “Are you looking for someone?”He jumps up like a scared cat. “Oh, Mr. Rio. You startled me.”“What are you doing?”“I wanted to have a word with you, but your secretary is not on seat. So, I was contemplating knocking to know if you were in.”“I am now.” I open the door and step back from him. “Please come in, and take a seat.”“Thank you.” He steps in and I follow him, closing the door behind me. “So which office are you going to occupy? Your father’s office or your mother’s old one?” He says, looking around my office.“I haven’t decided. Drink?” I ask, taking out a bottle of whiskey and a glass.“Sure. Your father’s office will be the better choice
