Four Years LaterI sat nervously in the chair that was set up on the stage, and although I had this huge smile plastered on my face, no one could tell that I was nervous, well there was one person who could anyway, and he was seated in the front row with our two-year-old son, Aiden. I looked up at him and he smiled at me and mouthed the words "Breathe." Just like that, the thickness that had lodged itself in my chest dissipated and I felt like I could breathe again. "Thank you." I mouthed back to him and he smiled and went back to cuddling our baby in his arms.So allow me to bring you up to speed on everything that has happened in the last four years. After Dad was arrested, he was tried, convicted and sentenced to jail of course and just like Ethan had predicted, he had been sentenced to life imprisonment, without an option of parole of course. It was after that that I was finally given the company. I had presented the copy of the transfer of ownership Mum had done before she die
"Dad please!" I pleaded on my knees, tears were streaming down my face but the man before me didn't even bat a single eyelash in my direction. "The deal is done Kate and there's nothing I can do about it. You will marry Ethan Robinson this Saturday. I suggest you start packing your things." He shrugged my hands off him and went to sit behind his desk. "I don't understand why she gets to marry Ethan's dad. Why not me?" Sofia, my step-sister whined out beside me. I would happily allow her to take my position anytime, but it had to be me again. "I already explained to you princess. Ethan is a cruel man and he is going to make her life a living hell. You don't want that do you?" He asked her and she shook her head. "Good. I don't want that for you either Princess. I only want what's best for you and that isn't Ethan Robinson." "But he is the hottest billionaire in New York." "I'll get someone much better than Ethan for you, I promise you, baby." He assured her and she grinned happi
"No reason, I just lost my temper. I'm sorry." He apologized, but his apology wasn't going to help me now. I pulled myself to my feet and told him, "I'm sorry too. I need some time alone, don't follow me." I told him sternly and left the office. I took a cab to the only place that brought me peace. I went to the cemetery to visit Mum. The moment I reached her headstone, I busted into tears. It was like all the tears I had been trying to hold back for so long, came pouring out that moment. "I'm getting married Mum," I started, "you're probably wondering why I'm crying when I have such good news. I'm crying because I'm not happy, everything is a mess down here. Dad wants to marry me off to a stranger. My life wouldn't be like this if you were here mum. Why did you leave? Why?"I wailed profusely. Although I never get any response when I visit, this place always made me feel like a part of Mum would always be with me. I spent the remainder of the day there and left when it was dark.
The car drove us to an apartment complex and Ethan got out. He came to my side and flung the door open, he grabbed me by the arm and pulled me out of the car. His grip was so tight, I knew it'd leave a mark but I didn't dare utter a word. He kept his tight grip on me as we entered the elevator. He still didn't loosen it even when we were now in his penthouse. "Your stepbrother thought he could punch me and get away with it right?" He snarled at me and continued pulling me up the stairs. When we arrived at a door, he opened it and pushed me inside harshly. I stumbled and fell to the floor, I scrapped my hands and my knees in the process. "Well he's getting away with it, but you, not so much. You're going to pay for what he did." Ethan growled out and before I knew what was going on, he closed the door and locked it. There was nothing but darkness in the room and I started to panic. "Please, open the door. I'm sorry for what Jake did. He'll never do it again." I pleaded with him, c
Ethan had kept true to his words, he had locked me in that room all night and he had brought home a different woman to keep his company every night as well. After that Monday, I hadn't even thought about going to work again. Our cycle just continued, he'd bring me food and lock the door whenever I was done eating. He had taken my phone away from the first night I had gotten to this house, that was why Jake had not been able to reach me all those times and since that fateful Monday as well, Jake hadn't come back to ask about me. It hurt because he believed everything I had said and the look on his face as I was crushing him haunts me every time I try to sleep in the night. I couldn't believe this was what my life had now been reduced to, I was now more or less a prisoner in what was supposed to be my husband's house. Today was Saturday and Ethan's new guest kept him busy all through the night as well. I didn't know how he was getting those girls, well I did. He was Ethan Robinson,
"What the fuck are you telling her Liam?" Ethan seethed, looking between me and his brother, obviously waiting for an explanation. "Relax bro, I was just telling her what happened with Lucy." Liam tried to explain. "And what right do you think you have to tell her that?" He bellowed angrily at his brother again. "Chill out Ethan, isn't she supposed to be your wife? Aren't you supposed to tell her everything?" Liam reasoned out. "I'm sorry I'm not pussy whipped like you are." Ethan made one final remark and he left the room, pulling me along behind him. He continued pulling me in the direction of the parking lot, and he didn't realize it, but his grip was becoming tighter and tighter. "You're hurting me, Ethan," I whispered to him at first but he didn't hear me. "Ethan!" I called him louder and he heard this time around. "What?!!!" He roared at me and I shrunk back in fear. He had a dangerous look in his eyes, his eyes were glazed. "You're hurting me please." I tried again. "
Things have been quiet since that night Ethan slapped me. After locking me in my room again, I didn't hear anything from him the next morning. He didn't even bother to bring me breakfast, he had the maids doing that and he also told them that they could unlock the door to my room. I was now free to roam about the house. There wasn't much I could do but I was grateful for a little freedom and some breath of fresh air at least. The whole apartment was so dry and bare, there was nothing to look at. And because of the workers around, there was nothing I could do as well. I took solace in Ethan's study though, I didn't want him to know I even stepped foot in his office. So every morning after he left for work, I'd go there, pick a book to read for the day and I'd make sure to return it to its rightful position before he got back in the night. So far, that has been helping me and I was more than happy just to be able to do one of the things I loved so dearly, reading. After Ethan left
"No, we didn't do anything," Ethan explained to the other person on the call. "Well, that's what I'm paying you to do, isn't it?" He yelled again and after that, I just tuned him out and focused my attention on the TV. The reporters were analyzing my relationship with Ethan, they were talking about how everything was nothing more than just a business ploy to merge our companies. I was not sure what right they had to sit there and bash us for our relationship which had nothing to do with them, whatever the reason might be for Ethan and I being together, it was not anyone's business and we didn't owe a single person any explanation whatsoever. "Hey, you." Ethan came to stand in front of me and snapped his fingers in my face, "Are you sure you didn't do or say anything to anyone? I know you're not the smartest person to deal with, you might have let it slip even without realizing." He was accusing me again of something which I had no idea of. "I didn't do or say anything to anyone E
