Se connecterThroughout the morning, there was no communication between Ronan and I. Not a call, not a text. Just nothing. I couldn't help wondering if the 'pause' he had suggested was actually happening or maybe he thought it was better to give me some space while I navigated having his sister under my roof until things settled down. But I wouldn't lie, I found myself checking my phone often. I checked for the last time. I sighed, putting it down on the coffee table before getting up from the couch and started pacing. I couldn't keep doing this. I couldn't keep pretending that nothing was going on between Ronan and I. It was becoming increasingly difficult. I was so tired of the tiptoeing, and most of all, tired of lying to Cassie's face. Sure, if I told her the truth, she would probably yell, lose her mind, and get really pissed off at both of us for keeping it a secret. But at the end of the day, I knew Cassie. Just like Ronan said yesterday, She loved me, and she loved him. She w
It suddenly hit me. The spare key. The one I had given Cassie to my apartment earlier, and judging by the sound coming from the front door, she was making use of it. It was like my blood ran cold. My eyes widened as I turned toward Ronan. "It's Cassie," I whispered. He didn't even flinch. He just looked at me calmly. "Take a deep breath." I stared at him. How was I supposed to take a deep breath in this situation? Before I could say anything, I heard the door push open. I immediately got off the couch, and Ronan stood up too. We heard the lock click into place, followed by footsteps approaching the living room. A moment later, Cassie came into view. She stopped when she saw us standing there together. Her eyes moved from me to Ronan before she tilted her head slightly. "Ronan?" I swallowed. What was she doing here? I thought she was staying at Archer's place tonight. Had something happened? Why hadn't she called to let me know she was coming back?My mind raced throug
I placed a call to Ronan immediately I got to my apartment. I pressed my phone to my ear, listening as it rang. I explained the situation to him the moment he picked up. "Do you want me to come over?" he asked. "Yeah," I breathed. "Please." "Alright," he said. "I'll be there." "Okay." I let out another breath. The line went dead and I dropped my phone on the couch. For some reason, I felt a little relieved. It wasn't as if I had not seen him all day. I had spent practically the entire afternoon with him, but with Cassie around. I settled on the couch and waited. After a while, there was a knock on the door. I got up almost immediately and went to open it. And there he was with one hand tucked into his pocket. "Hi," I said. "Hey." He stepped over the threshold, and I closed the door behind him, locking it. We walked together into the living room. I stopped, turning to face him with my hands resting on my waist. He calmly sat on the couch, watching me with a ste
The restaurant we finally stopped at was really cozy for an afternoon. It wasn't overly crowded, and the atmosphere was comfortable enough to make me want to settle in. Once we were seated, Cassie wasted no time in pointing to a variety of dishes and appetizers that made me giggle. She said she wanted to try the ones she pointed out. I had once imagined Ronan and I going out for dinner... or lunch. Well, this was close. He just asked for salmon, roasted vegetables and a glass of water while I asked for grilled chicken sandwich and fries. For someone who had ordered so much food, Cassie seemed determined to try everything. As we ate, she launched into a nonstop chatter, eagerly passing a bite of her appetizer across the table for me to taste. I focused on the food, briefly forgetting the situation of things. In the middle of her chatter, a random thought drifted through my mind, for some reason, the topic of their parents didn't come up at all. I didn't dwell on it though.
"I really have to go with you?" She looked at me like it was obvious. "Yeah, you have to come. Besides, you and Ronan need to actually get to know each other more, especially since you literally bumped into each other at a club and barely even said hello. It would be nice to get friendly with each other." I pressed my lips together. Friendly, huh? That was certainly one way to describe what Ronan and I had been doing lately. "Plus you know this city better than I do, you're driving and helping me navigate," she added . Oh, that was true. "Alright," I said, not wanting her to imagine why I was reluctant to spend time with her brother. "Great! I'll call Ronan now." I nodded. "Let me go get you the spare key for you, before I forget." "Alright, thank you." I stood and headed toward the bedroom. I got there and I closed the door behind me and rested my back against it, closing my eyes briefly. I sucked in a long, shaky breath, letting it out slowly. "Calm down, Lena. Com
We finally got to the apartment building. We both said hi to the doorman and I informed him that Cassie is not a stranger and would be staying with me for a little while. We took the elevator up to my floor, and I unlocked the door, stepping aside to let her enter first. Cassie walked in and I followed, closing the door behind us as we walked to the living room. She looked around with interest. "Oh, this place has a nice touch." I chuckled, closing the door behind us. "Thank you." "No, seriously." She turned, taking in the furniture and the little decorations. "I like it. It feels like you." "Thank you," I laughed. "Alright, come on." I led her to the bedroom where she set her suitcase down and glanced around before following me back to the living room. She kicked off her shoes, sinking comfortably into the couch while I sat on the floor across from her. So," she began, turning to look at me. "Are you busy today? Do you have anything major to take care of, or are yo
