Bella’s POV

The car rolled through the dark streets, the low hum of the engine doing nothing to drown out the pounding in my ears.

Matteo’s fingers hovered in front of my face, glistening with my wetness in the faint light from passing streetlamps.

He stared at them like they were evidence.

“Why are you wet?” he asked again, voice dangerously quiet.

I forced myself to breathe steadily. But no words came out.

“Do you want me to ask you again?” Matteo said, his voice rising now.

I sat straighter,

Zayden’s POVThe breakfast table was quiet. The soft clink of silverware against porcelain echoed through the massive dining room as maids moved silently, refilling coffee and setting down fresh pastries.I sat at the head of the table, a cup of coffee in my hand that I hadn't touched. My mother sat across from me, her posture rigid, her knife slicing through a piece of fruit with more force than necessary.I looked at my watch, she hadn’t said a word in almost ten minutes.I took a sip of my coffee before finally speaking.“You’re quiet.”Her eyes lifted to mine slowly.“So are you.” She cut into her food again. “Besides, I have nothing to say to you after your recent stunt.”A chuckle left me.“I’m very sure you have a lot to say.” I leaned back slightly in my chair. “But it’s decent of you to keep it off the breakfast table.”She dropped her fork immediately. The sharp clink against the plate echoed louder than it should have.“What is wrong with you?” she asked.I raised a brow. “

  • His Dark Desire: The Devil’s Bride    Chapter 57 - Rules

Zayden’s POVThe moment Nico shut the door behind him, the silence in my office settled heavily around me.For a few seconds, I stayed still, leaning back in my chair, staring at nothing.Hiram Moretti. That name alone was enough to make powerful men lose sleep. And now Matteo was dead by my hands. Wonderful.I rolled the cigar slowly between my fingers before lighting it.The first inhale burned my throat pleasantly. Then the office door opened again.I didn’t look up immediately. “I thought I said I was done for the ni—”“Have you completely lost your mind?”My mother’s voice sliced through the room.I lifted my gaze. She stood by the door, arms folded tightly across her chest, fury burning in her eyes.“You sent your men away so I assumed you were finally free to explain what kind of disaster you’ve created now.”I exhaled smoke slowly. “Marrying Bella wasn’t a disaster.”My mother laughed once."No?" She said. "Then what was it? A business transaction? A power move? Because from

  • His Dark Desire: The Devil’s Bride    Chapter 56 - Accusations

Zayden’s POVI sat in my study. Tomás and Nico sat across from me. Tomás has his head buried in his palms, frustration bleeding through him.“I told you not to do anything to Matteo.” He said, raising his head. “I told you that was risky as fuck. And what do you do? You go ahead to fucking kill him and take his bride.”“Matteo wasn’t giving me a choice,” I said. “That motherfucker tried to kill me with a bloody knife. What was I supposed to do?”“I don’t know, try to get him off of you?” Tomás said sarcastically. “Well then, I guess that’s too late,” I said firmly. The silence in the room was tense.“What do you think is going to happen now?” Tomás said. “What are you going to do when…” he paused, lowering his voice as if the walls had ears. “When Hiram comes.”“Nothing,” I said, irritated now. “And can everyone stop mentioning that name like it’s fucking doomsday.”Tomás scoffed. “Fuck this.” Then he turned to Nico. “And the fuck are you so quiet for? You’re not saying shit.”“I’m t

  • His Dark Desire: The Devil’s Bride    Chapter 55 - Mrs Romano

Bella’s POVMrs Zayden Romano. That's who I was now. That’s who he’d made me become. That’s the only thing I could think of as I sat across from him in this car that felt like a prison.Nico had sat in the front seat, leaving Zayden and me alone in the back. The silence was thick enough to be cut by a knife, before he spoke. “You're quiet.”I didn't look at him. "I have nothing to say to you.""You will eventually." He sounded almost amused. "We have a lifetime."I closed my eyes. “Do you think this is funny?”“No I don’t.”“You think you can just swoop in, upend my life and then joke about it?” I snapped.“No. I don’t think that.” He responded. “But what I do think is that you need to calm down.”“Stop telling me to—““We’re here.” Nico interrupted me.My breath caught. We’d finally reached Zayden’s villa—a sudden weight pressed against my chest. I know I’d been here before. But this time was different. I was here as his wife. The car stopped. The driver got out and opened my door.

  • His Dark Desire: The Devil’s Bride    Chapter 54 - His Dark Desire

Zayden’s POVFinally, I’d done it.I had satisfied my darkest desire — making Isabella Mendoza my wife.It wasn’t an easy feat. In fact, this had to be the most challenging thing I’d ever done. Lives were lost for this to happen. Blood had been spilled. But yet here we are.I walked down the aisle with her. Her hand locked in mine. The white dress clung to her body like it had been made for this moment — for me. She looked beautiful.I knew she hated me. In fact, hate is an understatement for what Bella felt for me right now.But I was fine with that.Hate was better than indifference. Hate meant she felt something. Hate meant she was still fighting. And I would enjoy breaking that fight, slowly, deliciously, until she was gasping my name instead of cursing it.The guests applauded as we passed. Fake smiles. Nervous laughter. They had just watched me kill a man, and now they were clapping like we were at a fairy tale wedding. No one had called the police. No one would.Because they al

Bella’s POVI stood outside the reception hall doors, clutching my bouquet so tightly the stems dug into my palms. My tears had finally dried, leaving behind nothing but exhaustion. The hallway was quiet now, not until footsteps approached from the side. I didn’t need to look to know who it was.My father stopped beside me, his suit wrinkled, his face pale and drained of colour. He opened his mouth to speak but I beat him to it.“He won,” I said before he could speak. My voice was flat. “Zayden won.”My father swallowed. “I’m sorry, Isabella. I’m so sorry all this happened.”“It’s too late, Dad.”He nodded slowly, eyes heavy with regret. “Are you ready?”“No.” My voice cracked. “Once I walk in there, my life is over. I’ll never be happy. Not truly.”“I know I put you in this mess,” he whispered. “I wish I could change it.”I looked at him sharply. “You had so much time to do that and now you’re sorry? Save it, Dad.”“Isabella, I know you’re upset—”Footsteps echoed, interrupting him.

Zayden’s POV I’d had more one-night stands than I could count. Faces I forgot before the sun rose. Names I never asked for. But her? Bella. She was different. In my mind. On my skin.
