ZEDKIEL. She turns when I enter what looks like a broken-down lift of some sort, and motions for Blade to leave us. “Are you sure?” He asks wearily, as he glances at me. “I’m sure.” She replies firmly. “We’re in a metal box, Blade. If a fight breaks out, you’ll hear.” He nods, but he doesn’t seem too sure, but he obeys and pulls shut the metal door that scrapes loudly. I raise an eyebrow as Ziahra turns to the other side, and pressing a button, motioning me to step out. I follow and we’re in a small room, but it’s a bit bigger than the lift at least. The door shuts behind her, and I glance around the tiny room. “You changed your mind about talking to me?” I ask, crossing my arms. She crosses her arms and walks over to me. “What can you do?” She doesn’t beat around the bush as she looks up at me, determination burning in her eyes. “Depends on what you want from me?” I reply, looking her dead in the eye. ZEDKIEL. Two days have passed as we continue on our way, but I am unable to remove her words from that night from my mind. She knows I’m going to betray her, and I am. Each passing day, each hour, brings me closer to doing just that. Zerachiel has been quieter, almost hesitant about what’s to come, but still, he tries to reassure me that all will be fine, but will it? I have my doubts. The tension in the air has become thick as we travel alongside the vampires. Evelyn is quieter, almost as if knowing what is to come. Ragnar had almost killed several of the vampires a few times, and only when he lost it did it bring any emotion from Evelyn, who would giggle in excitement at the violent scenes playing out around her. It’s almost like she gets off on it, and craves the violence. EVELYN. He steps back, his heart thundering, and I know he’s going to do something. Will he stab me again? Snap my neck? Or will he be more inventive this time, make it more painful, slower, really go for the heart by ripping it from my chest? A soul can only break so many times before it is irreparable. Peering up at him, it makes me wonder what his next move will be. Is someone hiding out here? His loyal friend wasn’t there when we left the gathering. I can see the raw guilt and regret in his eyes, but are those feelings genuine? Or just a mask to hide his true intentions. I’m telling myself they are, because it is all I have. EVELYN. His gaze returns to me, and I don’t know what to do. I can easily unleash my wrath upon them all, but… Is he really going to tell me the truth, or is he just trying to manipulate the situation? “I need to go to the other realm. Time is running out and we won’t keep getting chances to right the wrongs of our past. I need you to trust me, Evelyn. ZEDKIEL. I know she’s heartbroken, and I know I did this to her. Even if I was trying not to hurt her, I still did. “We’re running out of time.” Ziahra says warily, her eyes on Evelyn, observing her with nervous caution. They don’t trust her, and I know I shouldn’t either, but I also can’t betray her by stuffing her in a tomb without so much as an explanation. “I know.” I say quietly, glancing at Evelyn. She has her arms folded, looking around at the runes and markings on the walls with a noted expression on her face. ‘We have to still seal her away.’ Zerachiel whispers as he urges me to keep moving forward. Evelyn watches me and she’s trying to hide her emotions, knowing that it’s nothing good that’s coming her way. Guilt gnaws at me at what I need to do to her. I need to put her back in the dark, somewhere she has spent the majority of this lifetime. ZEDKIEL. “Maybe if I can get in and try to see if something is stuck…” Ziahra says, falling to her knees and peering into the tiny opening. “None of us are going to fit down there.” I say, unease filling me. “And you may be the smallest of us all, but I think you forget that your ass is far from tiny.” Kash says bending down beside her. “Piss off.” She hisses, shoving him right where he’s injured. He curses as he clutches his shoulder and looks forward again. “Force won’t work. The building is in ruins.” Ziahra says, looking up. “Let’s try to pry it open.” I suggest, letting go of Evelyn’s hand as she steps back silently. It takes the four of us to pry the sandstone entrance open, pulling and pushing the rocks that should have repositioned themselves. I hear something crack and break and the stones begin moving again and we all move back. “Thank the gods,” Ziahra says. “More like us for getting it working. You were giving up hope, remember?” Kash reminds her arrogantly. “I

ZEDKIEL. I step forward as Ziahra holds her hand out to Evelyn, willing to take her offer. “Your blood will power the portal.” She explains to her. She's serious again, the weight of what she needs to do hanging above us all. “I love creating rivers of blood.” Evelyn replies quietly, but there’s no humour in those eyes of hers and it only darkens the atmosphere surrounding us all. Ziahra slices through Evelyn’s palm, her eyes staying fixed on hers. She doesn’t trust her. No one in this room does, but I do. I just don’t think she’s given that chance… ‘You are a fool.’ “If she pulls away mid-ritual, the chance is over. I will not be able to do this again.” Ziahra says to me as she lets her blood drip across the symbols on the altar. “I trust her.” I say firmly. “Fine.” Ziahra shakes her head before turning to Evelyn. “Now place your hand in the middle. It will hurt a little, but you have to bear it, Evelyn. This is absolutely vital.” Evelyn nods and places her hand as commande

EVANGELINE. Nothing. I feel like I’m in limbo, ever since she pushed me away, snatching control from me, I’ve been forced here. Alone. I can’t sense Luna… nor can I feel anything or see anything.
