Thank you for reading ā”
ZEDKIEL. I look at her sharply, glancing back at the door before I crouch before her on the ground. There is no way someone like Evangeline can kill anyone, let alone the Oracle. The woman was one of the most powerful beings. āLook, you didnāt kill her.ā I say quietly, rubbing her arms comfortingly. I take a second to relish in those sparks as my hands rub her arms. I donāt know how they came back but Iām glad they didā¦ Sheās mineā¦ āI didā¦ I did it Zedkiel! I-I went to see her - to ask my question! Then- Then I killed her!ā Her voice is panicky, and sheās beginning to tremble too. Her heart thundering like a galloping horse. I can see the fear and regret in her eyes. She didnāt kill her; I know that for certain, but she sure thought she did. I donāt know how to convince her otherwise, and so I simply pull her close and wrap my arms around her tightly. I press my lips to the top of her head. āListen to me, you didnāt kill her. I know that and I donāt know why you think you did.
ZEDKIEL. āDid you find anything at all?ā Chasyn asks me as I remove the nails and lift the Oracleās body to the ground, looking around I yank the charred tablecloth off and cover her body. āNot yet.ā I say, staring down at the Oracleās body, I sniff the air, letting the smell of blood fill my nose. There are two different smells mixed inā¦ I lean down, sniffing the blood. Itās not Evangelineās blood. Relief floods me, and I stand up. I donāt know why she thinks she killed her, but I plan to find out who it really belongs to, but this blood is not Evangelineās. Iāve tasted hers, smelt hersā¦ this one is nowhere near hers. āDonāt touch anything in here.ā I hear Chasyn command some of the men. I slowly walk through the room, trying to visualise what may have happened. The runes and the burns are the Oracleās doing, her magic draws from herself and that around her. I know that much. I frown as I crouch down looking at the marks on the floor. There are no claw marks, no torn clothesā¦ T
ZEDKIEL. āI want to know exactly what happened that night.ā I say quietly. He takes a silent breath, obviously remembering that night and, by the looks of it, it wasnāt a pleasant experience. āIt has been ten years since that night, but itās still as fresh in my mind as if it had just happened yesterday. The town was roughly an hour's drive or run from Dark Falls. It was in an even more isolated place than Dark Falls. Hidden on the other side of the forest and these mountains. Sinclair and I were on a hunting trip, and we had found a target and given chase. It was snowing heavily, and this was something we did every winter. I made sure each year I made the hunt a little harder for him, and that year we were going to go through the rocky terrain and up through the mountains.ā He begins. I can tell he doesnāt like speaking of it, but he still continues and begins pacing the room. I cross my arms and lean against the wall. āI smelt blood and something burning, yet there was no sign
EVANGELINE. I feel the heat of the morning sun warm my skin, and I open my eyes slowly. Iām enclosed in Zedkielās arms, and I feel so warm and protected. Despite everything that has happened, I know Iām safe here. Taking a moment to admire him as he sleeps, I observe him. His face is calm and stress-free. Well, almost, he still has that slight frown on his forehead. His plump lips are perfect, and I want to reach up and kiss them, but his grip on me is too tight for me to shuffle at all. So, I stay still, simply admiring him. Weāre matesā¦ I slowly place my hand on his bare waist, feeling him stir slightly, but I close my eyes, relishing in the sparks that ripple through me, spreading from my fingertips before washing through me. My breath hitches as I let those sparks consume me. It feels magical, itās like a stream of gold liquid lighting up my dark insides. Warming every corner of my body from my fingertips right down to my toes. I canāt really explain itā¦ but itās beautiful. H
ZEDKIEL. I canāt stop watching her. Sheās gorgeous, beautiful, and today was fucking perfect... She wanted me as much as I fucking wanted her, and she actually handled me pretty well. I like when she smells of me so stronglyā¦ I want the entire world to know that she belongs to me. Sheās sitting there now, holding an air around her that no one can match. Her beauty makes everything else look washed out. Sheās watching me as Kash questions her. āWhy are you worried?ā Her eyes are locked with mine, and as I hold her gaze, those tawny colours orbs of hers flicker, itās so slight and something seems to shift in her but thereās something there. Is it the same as what I saw in the water? Itās too fast for me to compare, but I donāt think anyone else noticed. Kash definitely didnāt. āIām worried for Sinclair, of course.ā Her voice is as soft as always, but thereās a spark to it, one I recogniseā¦ Her eyes widen in horror, and she frowns. āWith an opponent like Zedkiel, he stands no chanc
EVANGELINE. This is wrong. He shouldnāt have to have such a public trial when there is plenty of questionable behaviour from others. I mean, Sinclair, for example. However, I canāt say anything because Zedkiel asked for it to happen. Sheās there clawing at the back of my mind, and Iām not going to let her get the better of me. Itās almost as if she takes advantage of me whenever Iām distractedā¦ I sigh heavily, glancing over at Sinclair, who didnāt make it to the exit, being in far too much pain and was now being treated by the healer who he had pushed away. Zedkiel had done some serious damage, but he had refrained from showing his true powerā¦ I knew that. Zedkiel isnāt a people person, nor does he like to be around peopleā¦ but his adamance with becoming king is clear and I know it isnāt for the pomp and glory. He is a man willing to put the work in to protect the kingdom. Alpha Ambrose is conversing via the mind link with the members of the high court but without Zedkiel having t
ZEDKIEL. I frown, watching Dad sharply. What scriptures? What the hell is this? The whispers that run through the crowd are growing. The confusion and unrest, irritating me. āWill you still not talk to me?ā I ask my Lycan. I donāt think Iāve tried as hard before, as I have for the last few days to talk to him, but he hasnāt spoken since agreeing for me to fuck Evangeline. I need him to realise that we are fucking one. I need him to back me up. Silence. āIf this all points to me becoming king, then donāt you have any input? Should I aim for the throne? Since you donāt even have faith in me as it is? What do you want me to do?ā Nothing. āI need you, pleaseā¦ I have never begged anyone in my life, and I am now. Iām setting my pride aside and asking you for something. Give me anything.' I close my eyes, feeling defeated. āNo. Itās your duty as king that will ruin usā¦ What I care for is our mate. Only her, and if I have to, I will destroy you. I donāt care about anything else.' That
ZEDKIEL. Drystan snickers, and Dad frowns at him before giving Evangeline a nod to continue. I give her hand a squeeze, and she smiles at me before taking a deep breath and carrying on. āAnd so, she turned Raziel into the very first werewolf. However, she had promised that her creation would live on earth, and by the command of the Supreme Eternal God, she was forced to cast Raziel down to earth. A move that shook Selene, and only then did she realise that her love for Raziel had become moreā¦ But, when she made the divine decision to create werewolves, she hadnāt realised that everything comes at a costā¦ She went to the Supreme God asking for Raziel to join her in the heavens, but she was denied her request.ā Evangeline frowns as she continues. āInstead, he gave her permission to create one more being. He granted her the source of life to create a female, to continue the race that she had created by mating her to Razielā¦ But she could not do it, when she herself loved him and so dis
