Chapter Thirty Three

Aria stood in the kitchen, mixing flour inside a glass bowl. She had woken up earlier than usual, thinking Damien might want something warm when she visited him at the hospital.

He hadn’t eaten properly in days. Maybe giving him something homemade would calm him down a little. Maybe he would stop yelling whenever she tried to help him.

The thought of him jumping from the window still scared her. It kept playing in her head every hour.

Her phone rang, pulling her out of her thoughts.

She wiped her hand on a small towel and picked it up.

“Hello, Mr. Grayson?” she said softly.

Richard’s voice came through, shaky and breathless.

“Aria… are you at home?”

“Yes, sir. I was about to ”

“He’s gone.”

She froze. “Gone? Who? Damien?”

“Yes,” Richard answered. “He escaped from the hospital. I’m calling to confirm if he went home.”

Her whole body went cold.

“Escaped?” she repeated quietly. “How? He was on IV ”

“Aria, I don’t know. The nurses can’t find him. His room was a mess a

Chapter Ninety-FiveClara made sure she was already in the bed when Damien started to come around. She had arranged herself just right his head tucked against her chest, her arm draped around his shoulders like she’d never once left his side. She’d even rubbed her eyes hard enough earlier to make them look puffy and red, the way they would if she’d spent hours crying. When his fingers moved against her side and his breathing shifted from deep to shallow, she slowed her own breaths, tilted her face down toward him, and waited.“Baby,” he said. The word came out cracked and dry.Clara responded right away.“Oh, Damien… thank God.” Her voice trembled the exact right amount. She pulled him closer and pressed her lips to the top of his head. “I was terrified. I stayed right here the whole time. Didn’t move an inch. I’m so glad you’re awake.”Damien blinked slowly. His head pounded. His arms and legs felt heavy, like someone had drained the strength out of them while he was out. Everything

---Chapter Ninety FourClara had locked herself in the room. She didn’t answer knocks. She didn’t answer calls. She didn’t even bother pretending she was asleep. She wanted Damien outside. She wanted him to suffer a little. To beg.To feel how much control she had over him.And Damien gave her exactly that.He stood by the door like a broken man, knocking again and again until his knuckles turned red. His voice echoed through the long hallway, loud, desperate, cracking in places he couldn’t control.“Clara, please,” he cried. “Open the door.”No response.“Please, baby. I’m sorry, okay? I don’t even know what I did wrong.”His voice rose higher, panicked. “I swear, Aria means nothing to me. Nothing. She’s just my father’s arrangement. That child—” his voice shook, “—that child isn’t even mine. You’re the only one I want.”Aria heard everything.Every word. She sat frozen in her room, hands gripping the edge of the bed. She didn’t cry. She didn’t scream. She just listened, because som

Chapter Ninety-ThreeCanadaJohn had already turned the place upside down for more than an hour.At first look the bedroom seemed the same as always tidy, organized, exactly how Clara liked to keep things. But he knew her habits better than anyone. She never left anything valuable sitting out in the open. Secrets went into ordinary spots: behind makeup jars, folded inside sweaters, tucked under stacks of shoes. Truth buried under layers of normal life.He went back to the wardrobe, moving slower this time.He slid hangers aside one by one silk dresses, tailored blazers, heels still in their dust bags from some shopping trip she never mentioned. expensive jackets, shoes still wrapped in protective bags.Empty. He dropped to a crouch, checked the lower drawers, fingers tracing seams and corners, tapping wood for any give or echo.Still nothing. He blew out a breath and straightened up.“You’re sharp,” he said under his breath, “but I’m sharper.”His gaze drifted upward again. He stretc

Chapter Ninety-Two Clara stood in the kitchen with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. The maids moved around her, laying out plates, arranging fruit, pouring drinks. Breakfast was almost ready. The dining area smelled warm and inviting, the kind of smell that made people relax without thinking twice.Clara clapped her hands lightly.“That’s enough,” she said sweetly. “You can all go now.”The maids paused, surprised. One of them laughed softly. “Madam, are you sure? We can finish—”“No,” Clara cut in, still smiling. “I’ll handle it from here.”They exchanged glances.“You’ve all worked hard,” she added. “From today, don’t worry about meals anymore. I’ll take care of Damien myself.”A few of them smiled, touched.“That’s very kind of you,” one maid said. “Madam Clara, you really love him.”Clara tilted her head modestly. “Of course I do.”They praised her as they left, talking among themselves as they returned to their quarters. Words like devoted, caring, future madam floated behind

---Chapter Ninety-OneAria woke up to the sound of her phone vibrating beside her pillow. She reached for it slowly, eyes still heavy, body tired in a way sleep didn’t fix. The screen glowed with a message notification. One message. Then another.Dr. Andreas. Her heart picked up a little as she opened it.> Good morning, Mrs. Greyson. I hope you rested well. Kindly come in today for Damien’s evaluation. Athens Medical Center. Please come with the patient if possible. She read it twice. It was already morning.Sunlight slipped through the curtains of the guest room she had taken the night before. The room was beautiful—cream walls, soft sheets, a balcony overlooking water that looked unreal. It was the kind of place people dreamed of coming to.But Aria didn’t feel like she was on a dream trip. She sat up slowly, one hand resting on her stomach without thinking about it. Three weeks. Barely anything. Still, she felt different. Heavy. Off. Tired in a quiet way.She pushed the feeling a

---Chapter NinetyThe private jet touched down smoothly, the wheels rolling against the runway with a muted screech. No cheers. No excitement. Just the soft hum of the engines winding down, the click of seatbelts releasing.Aria remained in her seat, hands tightly clutching her bag. She didn’t speak. She barely breathed. Her stomach fluttered nervously, a small life growing inside her making her suddenly aware of every motion, every sound. She was leaving Canada for the first time, and the world she thought she knew had already turned upside down.Clara stood first. She looked as though she had always belonged on this jet, on this trip, in this life. Her dress was light, flowing just enough to look effortless. Her hair tumbled loosely around her shoulders. Makeup highlighted her features without trying too hard. She stretched like someone arriving for a vacation she’d been planning for months. Then she leaned slightly toward Damien.“We’re finally here,” she said softly, her voice wa
