‎The next morning, I walked into the office with a decision already made.

‎I was going to avoid him.

‎Avoid Jayden Roberts.

‎Avoid whatever magnetic, dangerous pull he had on me.

‎Avoid the memory of his voice whispering, “You have no idea how hard you are to stay away from.”

‎Because I couldn’t afford to feel anything for him—not when my life was already falling apart.

‎So I kept my head down.

‎Answered him with short yes-or-no responses.

‎Used email as much as I could.

‎Didn’t look at him longer than necessary.

‎It was survival.

‎But the moment I handed him a report through the crack of his office door without stepping inside, his voice turned cold enough to frost glass.

‎“You may enter the office, Ms. Sanders. I don’t bite.”

‎His tone made it sound like he wanted to.

‎I swallowed. “I’m trying to keep things professional.”

‎“Professional,” he echoed, jaw tightening. “Interesting choice of word.”

‎I didn’t reply.

‎I couldn’t.

‎Instead, I turned and walked back to my desk in silence.

‎Wrong move.

‎He hated that.

‎Within an hour, the air in the office shifted—tension creeping across the room like static electricity. Jayden’s irritation became everybody’s fear.

‎He slammed his pen.

‎Shut his laptop harder than necessary.

‎Corrected people with a sharpness that made even department heads flinch.

‎And every time someone tried approaching my desk, his eyes snapped up like a warning shot.

‎---

‎Chloe slid into the chair beside me around midday and whispered, “Okay… what did you do to him?”

‎“What?” I blinked.

‎She nodded toward the glass office. “He’s in the worst mood of the year.”

‎I shrugged, pretending to type. “Maybe he woke up upset.”

‎“Melissa,” she hissed, leaning closer, “he hasn’t glared at the staff this much since the merger. And he keeps staring at you like he wants to strangle anyone who breathes near you.”

‎Heat crept up my neck. “Chloe, you’re imagining things.”

‎“Am I?” She raised a brow. “Because the man nearly vaporized Mark for walking past your desk too slowly.”

‎I pressed my lips together. I didn’t want to admit it, but she was right.

‎He was restless.

‎I could feel it.

‎Like a storm pacing behind glass.

‎Avoiding him wasn’t working.

‎If anything, it was provoking him.

‎---

‎I was printing documents when I heard a voice that made my stomach drop.

‎“Melissa.”

‎I turned—and my heart stopped.

‎Andrew stood near my desk.

‎My husband.

‎Or… ex-husband.

‎Or whatever we were now.

‎He was holding a brown paper bag, face unreadable. He looked exhausted, but the bitterness in his eyes felt sharper than ever.

‎“What are you doing here?” My voice cracked.

‎He shrugged casually. “Came to drop off the hair cream you forgot at the salon. And maybe talk—if you can spare a minute.”

‎Chloe’s eyes widened from her desk. A few coworkers glanced over, whispers already starting.

‎I felt my face heat with embarrassment. “Andrew, this isn’t the place—”

‎“I tried calling,” he said, lifting the bag. “Thought maybe seeing me in person would make you less… cold.”

‎His words twisted in my chest.

‎I opened my mouth to respond—

‎But suddenly, a shadow blocked the light behind me.

‎I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.

‎Jayden.

‎He stood so close I felt his presence like a temperature change. When his voice came, it was quiet, controlled, and lethal.

‎“You have five seconds to leave this floor.”

‎Andrew stiffened. “Excuse me?”

‎Jayden stepped forward, eyes like steel. “You heard me.”

‎“This is between me and my wife,” Andrew snapped.

‎“Ex-wife,” Jayden corrected coldly. “And she’s on company time. You’re trespassing.”

‎My breath caught. “Jayden—”

‎He didn’t look at me.

‎Only at Andrew.

‎Something in Andrew’s expression cracked. He tossed the bag at my desk.

‎“Fine,” he spat. “Keep pretending you’re the victim.”

‎Before I could respond, Jayden moved again—not touching me, but stepping in front of me just slightly, like a shield.

‎“If you come here again without authorization,” he said calmly, “I’ll have security escort you out permanently.”

‎Andrew scoffed, but there was fear in his eyes. “Unbelievable.”

‎Then he left.

‎Silence swallowed the office.

‎When I finally exhaled, Jayden turned to me, eyes dark.

‎“Are you alright?” he asked.

‎But the tone wasn’t unfamiliar.

‎It wasn’t gentle.

‎It was angry.

‎I straightened. “You didn’t have to threaten him.”

‎Jayden’s jaw clenched. “He had no right to be here.”

‎“He just wanted to talk.”

‎“And I don’t want him near you.”

‎His voice was sharp. Possessive.

‎It stirred something in me I shouldn’t feel.

‎“Why?” I whispered.

‎He stepped closer, standing barely inches from me.

‎“Because someone should protect you,” he said softly. “Since he failed.”

‎My breath hitched.

‎This was dangerous.

‎Too dangerous.

‎I backed up. “This is inappropriate.”

‎Heat shot through my chest.

‎“Jayden, please. Not here.”

‎Something flickered in his eyes at the sound of his name—something raw and unguarded.

‎He stepped back. Barely.

‎But enough to breathe again.

‎“Come to my office,” he said. “Now.”

‎I followed him, heart pounding.

‎---

‎Inside, he closed the door and leaned against the desk.

‎“Why were you avoiding me today?”

‎I swallowed. “Because yesterday… scared me.”

‎“Good.”

‎His voice was a low rumble.

‎“It scared me too.”

‎My breath caught.

‎He studied me, gaze traveling from my face downward—

‎And then his eyes froze.

‎“Where is your necklace?”

‎My hand flew to my bare collarbone. I had taken it off this morning, thinking the distance might help calm everything between us.

‎“I… forgot it,” I lied.

‎Jayden’s expression darkened. “No. You didn’t.”

‎I felt my heartbeat in my throat.

‎His voice softened dangerously.

‎Like a warning wrapped in velvet.

‎“Don’t hide from me, Melissa.”

‎The room was suffocating with tension.

‎I couldn’t breathe.

‎I couldn’t look away.

‎I needed to get out.

‎So I whispered, “May I return to work now?”

‎He didn’t answer for several seconds.

‎Then:

‎“Go.”

‎I left before he could see how affected I was.

‎---

‎During my break, I sat alone in the empty break room, clutching a bottle of water I wasn’t drinking. My hands trembled with the pressure of everything—Andrew, Jayden, the divorce, the confusion, the heat.

‎I just needed a moment to breathe.

‎A moment of quiet.

‎My phone buzzed.

‎I exhaled shakily and checked it.

‎A message from Andrew.

‎> So you’ve moved on to your boss now.

‎That explains why you were acting so distant.

‎My heart dropped.

‎The edges of the world blurred.

‎I felt the sting of tears again—not because I loved him, but because the accusation hurt in a way I didn’t expect.

‎Because I hadn’t moved on.

‎Because I didn’t understand what was happening to me either.

‎My fingers tightened around the phone.

‎I closed my eyes.

‎And for the first time, I didn’t know who I was crying for anymore.

‎Andrew… or Jayden.

  • His Earthly Desire    The Weight Of What We Don't Say

‎The next morning felt like waking up inside a fog.‎‎I dragged myself into the office, my mind replaying everything from yesterday—the divorce papers, Jayden’s voice in the car, the way he fixed my necklace, the way he stepped back like touching me might ruin us both.‎‎I had barely slept.‎‎But nothing prepared me for how cold he was today.‎‎He didn’t greet me.‎Didn’t look at me.‎Didn’t open his office door once.‎‎Instead, instructions came through email—short, clipped, painfully formal:‎‎Prepare the quarterly report.‎Review the client proposal.‎Send the updated schedule.‎‎No “Ms. Sanders.”‎No voice.‎No warmth.‎‎Just… distance.‎‎I forced myself to focus on the computer screen, but my fingers trembled with every click. The tension from last night still lingered beneath my skin like a bruise.‎‎When I made a small mistake typing a date into the report, Chloe mouthed from her seat, “Hey. You okay?”‎‎I nodded too quickly. “Just tired.”‎‎She didn’t believe me. N

  • His Earthly Desire    What Breaks A Woman

‎I didn’t remember walking back to the office.‎‎One minute Andrew was placing the divorce papers in my hands like he was passing me a menu, and the next, I was pushing open the glass doors of Roberts Corporation—heart numb, eyes burning, hands trembling so badly I nearly dropped my phone.‎‎The receptionist greeted me, but I barely heard her. My heels clicked down the hallway, echoing louder than they should. Everything felt too bright, too loud, too cold.‎‎I slipped into my seat twenty minutes late.‎‎And of course, the moment I sat, the devil himself appeared.‎‎Jayden stepped out of his office with a folder in hand, his gaze sweeping the room like a command. He was mid-sentence—“We’ll continue the audit by—”‎Then he saw me.‎‎He stopped.‎‎Just… stopped.‎‎The entire office fell silent.‎‎His eyes narrowed, not in anger, but something far sharper. His voice dropped.‎‎“You’re late.”‎‎The reprimand should have stung, but I couldn’t muster a reaction. I tried to straig

  • His Earthly Desire    Taste Of Jealousy

‎The next morning, the hotel lobby smelled like fresh coffee and polished marble. Jayden walked beside me, hands in his pockets, looking every bit like the man people instinctively stepped out of the way for.‎‎We were heading out when a hotel staff member — a girl with glossy curls and an overly bright smile — caught sight of him.‎‎“Good morning, sir,” she greeted, fluttering her lashes like she had rehearsed it.‎‎Jayden gave her a polite nod. “Morning.”‎‎She stepped closer, too close. “I hope you enjoyed your stay. If there’s anything else I can do for you, anything at all—”‎‎Her tone left nothing to imagination.‎‎I waited for him to ignore her like he ignored 98% of the female attention he got.‎‎But instead, Jayden gave her a small, polite smile.‎‎A smile.‎‎Something hot twisted in my chest.‎‎He didn’t flirt. He didn’t lean in. He didn’t even look impressed.‎But he acknowledged her.‎‎And for some absurd reason, it bothered me.‎‎The girl’s eyes flicked to me

  • His Earthly Desire    The Ball And The Boundaries

‎The message came early that morning, short and commanding—just like him.‎‎> Jayden Roberts: Shareholders’ Ball. Tonight. Be ready by seven.‎Wear something formal but elegant. You’re coming with me.‎‎‎‎No greeting, no explanation. Just an order.‎‎I stared at my phone, half expecting a follow-up that never came. By the time I reached the office, the buzz had already spread. The annual shareholders’ ball was the company’s biggest event of the year. Only top executives and their plus ones attended.‎‎So why me?‎‎When Jayden finally arrived, I followed him into his office, shutting the door behind me. “Sir, about the message…”‎‎He didn’t even look up from his laptop. “You got it.”‎‎“Yes, but—why me? You could take anyone else from the board.”‎‎His eyes lifted, calm and unbothered. “You’re my secretary. You go where I go.”‎‎“That doesn’t include after-hours events.”‎‎“It does when I say it does.” His tone left no room for argument. “I need someone efficient, and you’r

  • His Earthly Desire    Claimed In The Spotlight

‎I stood in front of the mirror that morning, barely recognizing the woman staring back.‎The black dress clung in all the right places, elegant yet daring, the kind of outfit that made silence follow wherever you walked. I curled my hair loosely, applied a faint red tint to my lips, and for once… I wanted to see if he’d notice.‎‎Jayden’s voice from last night still echoed in my mind.‎Dress beautifully tomorrow.‎No explanation. Just a command dressed like a compliment.‎‎As I walked through the office lobby, conversations slowed. A few jaws even dropped. The sound of my heels filled the air like music, and for the first time in a long while, I felt—powerful.‎‎“Melissa!” Chloe whispered, eyes wide. “Who are you trying to kill today? You look like a walking sin.”‎‎I laughed softly, pretending I wasn’t nervous. “Just following orders.”‎‎“Whose orders?” she teased.‎I didn’t answer.‎‎Then the elevator doors opened.‎‎Jayden stepped out, tall, calm, impossibly composed in his
