Chapter Twenty Two

Emily was confused because she had to make a difficult decision. She was confused because that information can change everything. “Did Ryan use that information as bait to get her attention?” She couldn't stop pondering. “Who could Ryan be talking about?” She asked as she read that line one more time. “They also affixed some financial history. “Emily stretched her hand and collected the papers from Sophia. She perused over the large transfer that was made three different times. 

Damian requested for the document, and Emily gave it to him. When he saw the total figure that was withdrawn, he was furious.

Damian, who was still sitting nearby, took the document from her and studied it. “That is a lot of money.” He said as he wondered who could be responsible for that. “Did Ryan send this to you?” Damian asked. “His lawyer did.” Sophia replied.

Emiiy felt like the past three years of life have been a lie. Presently, she could feel anger eating her up from within. She felt like the whole world was against her. Ryan's mother has been in charge of her finances while Ryan played her dirty. She knew that there was a link somehow but she could not prove it.  

“That is not all.” Said Sophia's she shows Emiiy a new page which showed Ryan's name. *What is Ryan's name doing there?’ Emily asked as she took a glance at Damian. Sophia has no idea why his name is there. But she urged Emily not to assume he is guilty just because his name appeared in the document without verifying what he signed and why he signed it.

Emily agreed immediately. “How do we get the facts then? She said as she moved to Sophia's position. “We can start by tracking where the money went,” Sophia said. 

As Emiiy sat with Sophia and Damian in the living room, she could not stop thinking about Ryan's words. “If he assumes I will just have a second thought about the divorce because of this cheap blackmail, then he has another thing coming.”  Sophia looked at Emily pitifully. She knows that deep down Emily might still not be so sure about divorcing Ryan. There is still an iota of doubt in her. “Maybe he is still hopeful that there is still a chance for you two.” She told Emily. “There is no chance for us. He should ask Vanessa, that pretentious bitch to marry him.” Those words made Damian laugh. “Are you really sure that is what you want?” He asked Emiiy as their eyes met. “I have never been more sure of anything in my life.” Emily responded. The decision to divorce Ryan was not influenced by her one night stand with Damian or the hurt that was inflicted on her by Damian. That decision was solely influenced by her lack of trust for Damian. She does not want to build a relationship with somebody she doesn't believe has her best interest at heart.      “Do not allow anybody to make you feel bad for making a decision and standing by your decision.” Damian said.                     “Nobody can make me feel guilty for leaving a man I no longer trust.” Emiiy said as she laughed in a light manner. After a short moment, Sophia got an email notification. When she opened the email, she saw that it was from Ryan's lawyer.  “Ryan's legal team has sent me another email.” She said, as she looked up.             “Does it have to do with the trust?” Emily asked. “It is a detailed document, showing the handling of the trust when you were a child.” She said as she showed Emiiy the screen. Emiiy went through the email with surprise on her face. “There is a new transaction here that we have not seen. Sophia told her. For several years, Margaret has been in charge of what her mother and father left her, and she was too young and naive to know what was going on. Margaret was able to fool everybody and claim she had Emily's best interest at heart while everything she did was the opposite. Now that she has known the truth,she wants to do everything possible to regain her freedom. She was not going to let anything stop her this time. She didn't want to let Damian be her protector, because that will also mean one thing;  being dependent on another person. She just wants to take things slow, one day at a time and see how it goes.                              After a short moment, Sophia informed her that her phone was buzzing. She had left it on the table while she was pacing around in confusion. When she looked at the phone and saw that it was Ryan that was calling, she didn't want to pick it. But then she recalled that Ryan had some important information that she wanted. Then she decided to answer.

“Did you get my documents?” Ryan asked her in an inaudible voice.    “I received them. Is that why you called me? Ryan was shocked by her cold answer. “I found out another thing. The thing I found out can turn everything around.” He said. “Ryan, please stop beating about the bush. If you have something to say to me, go ahead and say it. I am tired of all this back and forth.” She responded. “This is not a phone conversation. Where can I meet you? I want us to talk face to face.” He told her. “Well, I cannot meet you anywhere, and I don't want you to come to me either. So whatever you think you have, you have to say it here.” She said but she could not even convince herself that she didn't want to meet him, neither was she able to convince Sophia. “Margaret was not supposed to have control over your parents inheritance.” As soon as he said that, he decided to end the phone call, because he felt like he had said too much.       Sophia looked at her because she was eager to know what Ryan said. Emily took turns looking at them. She first looked at Sophia then looked at Damian; and then she said “Ryan just discovered something Margaret has been hiding from me all these years.”
