Roran almost hit the brakes right there on the road. "Your what?!!!"
Lucien's jaw dropped, "You mean like... mate mate? As in fated by the Moon Goddess, mate?"
Kael didn't answer with words. He didn't need to.The growl vibrating in his chest said everything.
Lucien leaned his head back, muttering under his breath. "I'm gonna need a bottle of whiskey and a prayer."
Roran blinked, still stunned "But -- but you were cursed by the Moon goddess, Supreme Alpha, Selene herself declared you would never have a mate. Neither would Throne, nor Morgana. That was part of the prophecy."
"The gods appeared to us again." Kael said, his voice flat, but sounding dangerous, "But that's a story for another day."
The confused expressions on the faces of both his Beta and Gamma didn't change.
Lucien, still gaping and trying to wrap his head around what he just heard. "Wait, wait, wait. So the mateless Alpha, the most cursed amongst us, suddenly wakes up one day and boom— there's a mate?"
"She's close. I can smell her. My wolf's going insane" He placed his palm over his chest where his wolf trashed beneath the surface like a hurricane, yearning to be released. "Drive faster"
Roran didn't need to be told twice. He drove like a madman. "This is serious." He muttered as he and Lucien exchanged looks.
Lucien shrugged "Serious? This is divine intervention serious. Do we need to get holy water? Call the witches?!!”
Kael's eyes flicked to Lucien like a threat.
"I'm shutting up now," Lucien said quickly, adjusting his seatbelt.
Fifteen minutes later,
The black SUV took sharp, winding turns as Kael barked directions. Roran followed without question, knowing better not to test the Alpha's when he was like this.
The vehicle eventually slowed beside a horrific club with bright colorful signs written in front of the club was its name. CLUB DUNE.
Kael was the first to step out as his mate's scent hit him instantly. Lavender and fire. Soft, but searing.
Sweet and yet dangerous.
Like silk wrapped around a blade.
"My mate!" He could smell her but there was something else—
"Demons," Roran’s voice was low, his eyes changing, turning dangerous. As he stepped out of the car, drawing his dagger from its hidden place in his belt. "Their scent is thick."
Lucien didn't need to wrinkle his nose.
""Holy shit. They are here somewhere, everywhere!"
Kael's hand clenched into fists. His eyes are dangerous. The aching of his wolf was worse now. His eyes kept changing. "They are near her."
No one needed to tell them that Kael's mate might be in serious danger.
The air around Kael shimmered with power, the kind that made the earth hold its breath. His aura pulsed out like a tidal wave— dark, wild and possessive.
"Why would your mate be near demons?" Roran asked, his voice still low. "She's human, right?"
Kael didn't answer. He remembered what the gods said about his mate being half fae and half witch. They didn't say anything about her being human.
But she smelled human, and beneath that was something else. Something unnatural. Something hidden.
Lucien turned sharply, straining his ears. "I hear screams. They must be in front of the club.
"Let's go," Kael said, his steps terrifying. His claws were already out. His wolf was feeling blood thirsty.
Those demons better pray that none of those screams were from his mate or else he will decapitate and kill them over and over again that they wish they were never created.
The screams got louder as they walked. Then, four girls looked frightened as they ran— so frightened. They ran past the lycans. Demon blood was spluttered all over them, but they didn't look like they were hurt—just traumatized.
"Oh God!" a girl with red hair muttered. She was practically shaking, her legs couldn't hold up again as she collapsed to the floor. Lucien caught her before she hit the ground.
"What happened?" He asked. The girl was still visibly shaken by whatever she saw. And whatever she had seen will forever traumatize her life in the future "What—"
"She—they… blood everywhere" She tried to make a complete sentence. "I have to run". She stared back. Her eyes widened in horror.
Lucien managed to stand her up. He turned back to look at Kael to know of the Alpha's next move, but Kael was frozen, his eyes staring at a distance.
Lucien made sure the girl could stand well before he let her go. Tracing the direction at which the Alpha's eyes were looking, he stood there in shock. His eyes widened in disbelief.
"What the fuck?" Those were the only words his mouth could form.
----
"I don't know." The demon said "No one does. He is like a ghost. Only the upper demons know him. We only get our orders through one of them named Belgium. He has a snake tattoo on his left arm. I swear that's all I know. I'm telling the truth. I beg you Shadow Siren." He pleaded and trembled seeing as the dagger continued piercing against his throat.
"Coward," Seraphina spat, feeling disgusted. One clean slice ended her last target for the night. It was done. "I guess I have to find myself who Belgium is now. Thanks but no thanks, coward. Rest in peace and if you resurrect again, I will be the one to end you again."
She was done here. She turned to go when she felt something, felt like she was being watched, being studied.
In front of the club, hidden in the shadows was a man. A Predator.
He was beautiful in the way storms were beautiful, untamed, wild and catastrophic. His frame was massive, muscles taut beneath his shirt. He had a noble face, sharp jawline and midnight-black hair that curled slightly at the ends. But it was his eyes that stopped her heart. Golden, not pale. A sharp, piercing, beautiful golden eyes that drew her in. It looked ancient, like it had stood the test of time. He wasn't afraid. He was intrigued.
For the first time in her career and her life, Seraphina felt her pulse skip. He was watching her. Studying her. Feeling her. He took a step towards her, nostrils flaring slightly as if he was scenting her.
“No, not human,” She muttered to herself.
Her grip tightened around the head of her daggers. There was something primal in the way he stood calm, but coiled like a predator.
Every instinct in her screamed danger and something else.
Something she didn't recognize.
"Mate?" she heard him say.
Her chest tightened, pulse spiking. "Mate? What the hell?"
She stepped back into the shadows lunging to disappear but he moved with inhumane speed, lunging forward— so fast.
She launched through the back exit. Her boots hit the pavement with a slap. She scaled the nearest wall like a spider.
But he was behind her —They were behind her and they were faster, stronger than anything she'd encountered.
"Wait," he roared, his voice thundering across the rooftops.
She didn't.
She dove off the edge of one of the skeleton buildings, using her grapple to land safely as she rolled into a sprint. Her breath came fast. Her adrenaline blazing.
"They must be lycans," she thought to herself as she zigzagged through alleys, from one rooftop to another. They stayed on her tail relentlessly.
Seraphina finally ducked into an old ruined cathedral, hiding behind a collapsed marble pillar. She tried to keep her panting low.
This wasn't part of her plan. The thought of killing them flashed in her mind. She always kept a spare weapon in her boots for whenever she faced dangers like this, and it hadn't come out handy until now.
It was a gun which contained just 3 bullets.
Three normal bullets and one special bullet. She smiled underneath her mask.
A silver bullet with wolfsbane poison could reduce werewolf's strength significantly, but she wasn't sure of Lycans. She was sure that werewolves lost their strength for almost like 48 hours, as for the Lycans, she just had to find out.
She knew that these Lycans would be trouble. She couldn't kill them, especially when the Order didn't input this in her mission for today. And if she killed them now and the Order found out. They might kill her too. Who knows what position these lycans held?
She brought out her gun ready to shoot. At least these bullets would only hurt them and slow them down. They won't die.
She was sure they were rich and influential enough to afford hospital bills and find a way to treat themselves.
There was silence; only Seraphina's shallow breathing could be heard.
Then—
A soft growl, very close to her.
"You smell like lavender and fire." The voice said.
She stilled.
"You killed them like you were born for it."
His voice wasn't angry. He was amused. " —and you are."
She tried not to move, nor speak.
"I know you can hear me. I saw you." His steps were closer now. She could sense him, even from behind. The air vibrated with his energy.
"You are mine,"
She froze.
Mine? What the hell does that mean?
As she was lost in thoughts, distracted for a moment.
That distraction could've caused her her life. The next thing she saw was the man in front of her, eyes blazing.
"Damn it"
Seraphina stared into his eyes. She felt like she was in a trance. She backed more into the marble pillar.
"Mate"
She felt his hot breath against her neck. Her legs almost gave out, as he wrapped his hands around her neck and drew her harshly towards him.
She could smell him now. Her sense of smell became sharper and she could've sworn that this was the most intoxicating scent she had ever come across.
They sit around the table while Mr Cartwright stands in front of the screen, which shows the information of their next target. Kieran comes to sit beside Seraphina. "Long time no see, Sera." Seraphina rolls her eyes and chuckles. "We talked over the phone two days ago." "Yes, but it wasn't even up to two minutes before you said you needed to get busy and shoved me off like a piece of trash." "I… Alright, alright. I'm sorry." She cooed. "Apologizing can't bribe me into forgiving you. I need you to—" "Need me to do what, Kieran." She laughed in that beautiful way that lightens Kieran's day. "Dinner? Nine o'clock?" Seraphina squints her eyes. "Hmmm..”She needed a little time off and some moments with Kieran won't hurt. “No problem, but it all depends on the mission given, okay?" Kieran smiles. They shook hands as if a deal had been made. Seraphina giggles again, shaking her head as she turns to pay attention to what Mr. Cartwright has to say. Kieran stares at her for a long t
"Mama!! Mama!!”Seraphina jerk open her eyes and quickly sat up.. panting heavily. Her head ached and her hands moved to her forehead wiping off beads of sweat. She reached out for the glass of water and pills on the nightstand. She stared at it and sighed deeply before gulping it down. She inhaled deeply, her hand massaging her forehead. It's been 12 years since that night. 12 years since she's been having these nightmares. It traumatized her. "I love you, my firefly." A drop of tears escaped her eyes. She wiped it off harshly. Her hands curled into a fist. She got up from the bed and sided the curtains. As soon as she did, the strong sun rays fell on her face giving her warmth after that terrorizing dream. For some reason, since a week now, she hasn't felt complete. She couldn't describe why she felt this way. It felt as if she lost a part of her or a memory and it's not because of the nightmares, something else. What happened last week especially that night? The only thing she
The night was cool and serene. The kind of night made for warm milk, whispered lullabies and bedtime stories."Mama, one more story!" Seraphina pleaded, her brown eyes were wide with stubbornness. Her ink black curly hair scattered all over the white pillow. Her mother, Alina, smiled as she brushed a curl from Seraphina's forehead. "Only one more, my little firefly. Then you go to bed. Okay?"Seraphina nodded solemnly clutching her stuffed lion to her chest. "Okay mama. Tell me the one about the lycans and werewolves."And so, Alina wove the tale of a mighty lycan who protected a weak magical creature, his heart glowing with love for the creature. As the story ended, Alina's voice softened."You know, Seraphina – sometimes the most powerful things in the world are hidden inside the smallest hearts"Alina smiled.Seraphina Gomez was an adorable nine years old girl. She was the first and only child of her parents who loved her to the brim.Alina kissed her daughter's cheek, lingered at
Seraphina cursed under her breath. That scent, those eyes. Something stirred deep inside her, a craving she didn't ask for. With a surge of energy, she pushed him away and turned, leaping over a broken bench. Her body twisted mid-air as she slid into a nearby room, ducking behind a collapsed altar. Her breath came in short, ragged gasps. As she caught her breath, she heard heavy footsteps."She went that way," Lucien's voice boomed, echoing through the stone walls. "Don't let her get away. Search every nook and cranny."Seraphina's eyes narrowed as she loaded her gun with the three bullets. "They're fast," she muttered. "Too fast."A blur of movement appeared in the doorway, and Lucien burst in, his eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. His red hair was disheveled, and a smirk played on his lips. "You know, " Lucien said while wiping an invisible sweat from his forehead. "For someone so deadly, you sure run.. very fast," he stepped slowly towards her. One footstep after another.Ser

The city glowed under the cover of the night, its artificial lights casting illusions of safety across its streets. The moon shone brightly from the sky as if something exciting is going to happen. Seraphina knew better; the only exciting thing that was about to happen was more demon blood that was going to splutter tonight. Blood had always been Seraphina's companion since the age of nine when her life ended and began in one breathe. It's been twelve years since that night, but the memory was etched into her soul with a cruelty that time couldn't dull. She could still remember the frightening expression on her mother's face as she said her last words. She could still remember the thick scent of burning flesh, the searing heat and the malicious laughter of the demon who looked at her in the eyes, his eyes saying, "You are next!"Seraphina had been nine - Now, she was twenty-two, and the world knew her by a different name:The Shadow Siren. No one saw her face. No one knew where she ca
