Seraphina cursed under her breath. That scent, those eyes. Something stirred deep inside her, a craving she didn't ask for. With a surge of energy, she pushed him away and turned, leaping over a broken bench. Her body twisted mid-air as she slid into a nearby room, ducking behind a collapsed altar. Her breath came in short, ragged gasps.
As she caught her breath, she heard heavy footsteps.
"She went that way," Lucien's voice boomed, echoing through the stone walls.
"Don't let her get away. Search every nook and cranny."
Seraphina's eyes narrowed as she loaded her gun with the three bullets. "They're fast," she muttered. "Too fast."
A blur of movement appeared in the doorway, and Lucien burst in, his eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. His red hair was disheveled, and a smirk played on his lips. "You know, " Lucien said while wiping an invisible sweat from his forehead. "For someone so deadly, you sure run.. very fast," he stepped slowly towards her. One footstep after another.
Seraphina knew she couldn't hide anymore. She emerged from behind the altar, gun at the ready. "Funny," she replied sarcastically. "Let's see if you can make funny jokes after this."
Before Lucien could react, she fired a bullet that hit him square in the shoulder. He stumbled back, groaning.
"Shit!" Lucien grunted, grabbing the wall for balance. "You actually shot me."
"Yeah, I did," Seraphina retorted. "Next one might be on your face, dumbwit. What do you—"
Before she could finish her sentence, another blur of movement appeared, and Roran lunged at her. Seraphina wasted no time, firing another bullet that hit him in the side. He staggered, growling in pain.
"What kind of bullets are those?" Roran snarled.
"Same question I wanted to ask, man. It's so painful. " Lucien pouted like a kid.
Seraphina shook her head at his behaviour. What sort of guy is this?
"These bullets are the cheap kind," Seraphina replied, "And yes, they hurt.. a lot."
With that, Seraphina bolted out past them, her legs pumping furiously as she tore through the dark halls. She could feel Kael behind her now, his energy like a tidal wave crashing against her.
Rolling her body to the side of the street, Seraphina's feet screamed in agony, but she didn't dare slow down even though she ran a little slower. She knew Kael was gaining on her. With a swift motion, she pressed the emergency button on her necklace, sending a distress call to The Order. She had never used the button— never found a reason to do so— until now. She needed backup.
"Dante, Dante, are you there?" Seraphina yelled, her voice barely audible over her ragged breathing.
Dante has always been on the receiving end whenever Seraphina goes on a mission just in case things went south.
"Yes, Shadow Siren?" He replied, sensing her panic. "Is the mission not going smoothly?"
"I'm done with that, sir, and yes, it went smoothly just that —" Seraphina explained, trying to speak audibly despite her labored breathing. "Right now, I'm being chased by supernaturals. I don't know where they came from and they are—"
" Species?"
"They must be werewolves or Lycans. Definitely they are not humans or witches because they exhibit traits..traits of werewolves."
Dante's silence was palpable, and Seraphina could only hear her own ragged breathing. "Request to kill?" she asked, already spotting the bridge that wasn't far away— her escape.
"Negative," Dante replied. "Request denied. Help is on the way. Just stall them for a few minutes or look for a way out."
"What?! How—"
The reply he gave her did not help her situation at all. She had kind of expected such words from him so she wasn't really surprised. Her panic spiked as she heard the howling of wolves in the distance. "You said not to kill," she hissed to herself. "Fine. I've already hurt them, and that's for stressing me the hell out and getting me injured." She hissed, still racing as fast as her feet could let her.
"Stop running," Kael's voice thundered. It was deep, cold, and domineering, and Seraphina almost wanted to stop. Something in his voice made her want to obey, to be submissive but she pushed aside the urge and kept running towards the bridge.
"You used your Supreme alpha tone, Kael," Roran observed, mind-linking with Kael. "And she didn't obey. Like when has that ever happened?"
Roran and Lucien were in their wolf form. They were trailing behind Kael— injured. So they were not as fast as they should have been.
The Supreme Alpha's tone worked on every supernatural— witches, werewolves, vampires and even humans. Normal alphas tone didn't possess that much power. It only worked on their kind—werewolves.
Seraphina didn't look back, her focus fixed on the bridge ahead. She knew she had to keep running if she wanted to survive.
Kael smirked. The girl was getting more interesting.
Seraphina was nearing the bridge that was connected to the cathedral ruinings. Below, the river was twisted like a serpent. It's surface silver in the moonlight.
Kael shot out of the shadows, now chasing her like a beast set free. He was gaining too fast. And Seraphina had no choice.
Mid run, she turned. Her heart was pounding. The silver bullet glinted in the chamber.
"Can you guys tell me what you want from me?" She asked , while trying to ignore the feeling of wanting to get close to him.
The full moon appeared clearly in the sky tonight. It was so beautiful. Seraphina recalled a book she had some time ago. It says that when the full moon appears, it's a time when wolves call out to their mate. Strangely, Seraphina felt Kael was calling out to her. That call made her feel hot with sexual desire that she could not deny or try to suppress. Her breathing became erratic. Her hands that held the gun trembled.
"What is wrong with me?" She asked herself. Her breathing was faster than usual. Again, she was trying hard to control that damn urge to get close to him, to run her fingers along that smooth face of his.
He was looking at her with those eyes as if waiting for her to make a decision. All of a sudden, Seraphina was sexually aroused and her mind was clouded with dirty images. "Shit!" she mumbled.
The man in front of her was dead gorgeous and handsome. He had this unique physique any girl could die for. With eyes so hypnotic that you could get lost in them. Even as she gazed at him from afar, she could see his face was perfectly aligned with a sharp jawline and high cheekbones.
Again, Seraphina's heart was in turmoil. She kept asking herself what the heck was wrong with her tonight.
Kael took a step towards her. His long strides covered so much distance that Seraphina panicked again. Three or four more steps and he will be very close to her and she feared that she might do something stupid.. like actually touching his face and maybe kissing him. She shook her head to get rid of her dirty thoughts.
Snapping back to her senses, she yelled. "Stay the fuck back. I'm warning you—all of you." She threatened pointing the gun this way and that way. "Take a fucking step again and I will kill you right here and now."
"Feisty." Kael remarked, ignoring her warnings and taking another step, then another. He smiled a little at her. His smile was so charming that Seraphina was almost swooned off her feet.
Standing there like a dummy, Seraphina watched him come close to her. He brought his face to her neck and inhaled her scent. She moaned as she felt his hot breath fanning her neck. Her knees became wobbly. He played with her silk black hair while still inhaling her delicious scent. Seraphina gasped when she felt his canines on her neck.
"Mine."
His voice snapped her back to her senses. She was so furious at how he made her feel and act like a sick, sex dummy in front of him. She held the gun tight again, thankful that it didn't fall from her hands when she was in a haze. Without a warning, Seraphina shot the last bullet into Kael's stomach.
"Supreme Alpha!!!" Lucien yelled through their mind link, his paws were heard as he ran towards Kael.
Quickly , Seraphina disengaged herself from Kael but not before he tore off her mask. Half of her face was visible to him and they were shocked at the colour of her eyes. The lycans have seen different shades of eye colors but hers were the unique kind that neither of them had seen before.
Seraphina didn't try to cover her face , knowing that it was of no use. They had already seen her. Facing the lycans, she said, "The poison in those bullets needs just fourty-eight hours to end your lives. Find yourselves a good doctor within that period if not... " she smirked. "... It's a goodbye from this world for you guys.”
After saying that, she jumped into the river hoping that the current was not too fast for her to drown in.
They sit around the table while Mr Cartwright stands in front of the screen, which shows the information of their next target. Kieran comes to sit beside Seraphina. "Long time no see, Sera." Seraphina rolls her eyes and chuckles. "We talked over the phone two days ago." "Yes, but it wasn't even up to two minutes before you said you needed to get busy and shoved me off like a piece of trash." "I… Alright, alright. I'm sorry." She cooed. "Apologizing can't bribe me into forgiving you. I need you to—" "Need me to do what, Kieran." She laughed in that beautiful way that lightens Kieran's day. "Dinner? Nine o'clock?" Seraphina squints her eyes. "Hmmm..”She needed a little time off and some moments with Kieran won't hurt. “No problem, but it all depends on the mission given, okay?" Kieran smiles. They shook hands as if a deal had been made. Seraphina giggles again, shaking her head as she turns to pay attention to what Mr. Cartwright has to say. Kieran stares at her for a long t
"Mama!! Mama!!”Seraphina jerk open her eyes and quickly sat up.. panting heavily. Her head ached and her hands moved to her forehead wiping off beads of sweat. She reached out for the glass of water and pills on the nightstand. She stared at it and sighed deeply before gulping it down. She inhaled deeply, her hand massaging her forehead. It's been 12 years since that night. 12 years since she's been having these nightmares. It traumatized her. "I love you, my firefly." A drop of tears escaped her eyes. She wiped it off harshly. Her hands curled into a fist. She got up from the bed and sided the curtains. As soon as she did, the strong sun rays fell on her face giving her warmth after that terrorizing dream. For some reason, since a week now, she hasn't felt complete. She couldn't describe why she felt this way. It felt as if she lost a part of her or a memory and it's not because of the nightmares, something else. What happened last week especially that night? The only thing she
The night was cool and serene. The kind of night made for warm milk, whispered lullabies and bedtime stories."Mama, one more story!" Seraphina pleaded, her brown eyes were wide with stubbornness. Her ink black curly hair scattered all over the white pillow. Her mother, Alina, smiled as she brushed a curl from Seraphina's forehead. "Only one more, my little firefly. Then you go to bed. Okay?"Seraphina nodded solemnly clutching her stuffed lion to her chest. "Okay mama. Tell me the one about the lycans and werewolves."And so, Alina wove the tale of a mighty lycan who protected a weak magical creature, his heart glowing with love for the creature. As the story ended, Alina's voice softened."You know, Seraphina – sometimes the most powerful things in the world are hidden inside the smallest hearts"Alina smiled.Seraphina Gomez was an adorable nine years old girl. She was the first and only child of her parents who loved her to the brim.Alina kissed her daughter's cheek, lingered at

Roran almost hit the brakes right there on the road. "Your what?!!!"Lucien's jaw dropped, "You mean like... mate mate? As in fated by the Moon Goddess, mate?"Kael didn't answer with words. He didn't need to.The growl vibrating in his chest said everything.Lucien leaned his head back, muttering under his breath. "I'm gonna need a bottle of whiskey and a prayer."Roran blinked, still stunned "But -- but you were cursed by the Moon goddess, Supreme Alpha, Selene herself declared you would never have a mate. Neither would Throne, nor Morgana. That was part of the prophecy.""The gods appeared to us again." Kael said, his voice flat, but sounding dangerous, "But that's a story for another day."The confused expressions on the faces of both his Beta and Gamma didn't change.Lucien, still gaping and trying to wrap his head around what he just heard. "Wait, wait, wait. So the mateless Alpha, the most cursed amongst us, suddenly wakes up one day and boom— there's a mate?""She's close. I ca
The city glowed under the cover of the night, its artificial lights casting illusions of safety across its streets. The moon shone brightly from the sky as if something exciting is going to happen. Seraphina knew better; the only exciting thing that was about to happen was more demon blood that was going to splutter tonight. Blood had always been Seraphina's companion since the age of nine when her life ended and began in one breathe. It's been twelve years since that night, but the memory was etched into her soul with a cruelty that time couldn't dull. She could still remember the frightening expression on her mother's face as she said her last words. She could still remember the thick scent of burning flesh, the searing heat and the malicious laughter of the demon who looked at her in the eyes, his eyes saying, "You are next!"Seraphina had been nine - Now, she was twenty-two, and the world knew her by a different name:The Shadow Siren. No one saw her face. No one knew where she ca
