Jason P.O.V
I can't believe what I'm hearing — it shattered my heart into a million pieces. My inner demons were fighting to stand strong as I looked at her with so much disgust.
I fought back the tears forcing their way out, but I knew she wasn't worth them.
I tried to make sense of her betrayal, but Mrs Cash’s voice cut through as she kept hammering on about the money she was owned, which angered every fiber in my being.
Before I could speak, Mrs. Cash intervened, “Oh, it's such a pity that your fairytale comes to an end… but reality doesn't care,” she said, her grin dripping with mischief.
I kept wondering how I would react to this situation when I suddenly felt a hand trying to hold mine, and I snapped immediately. “Don't you dare touch me,” I snapped, my glare dripping with loathing, still clenching my fists to steady my anger.
My eyes kept staring at the smug, aging woman standing shamelessly at my doorstep while my fist clenched and unclenched with restrained fury.
I looked straight at Brinda, my anger blinding me, and I slammed my fist on the wall next to her in rage.
“I can't believe I just did that — this isn't me”, my mind kept repeating while staring at my unlawful action.
A piece of me wanted to apologize to her for my sudden action, but I was so consumed by her betrayal that I only wished she felt what I did.
She looked at me with so much shock, but I left her and turned my eyes to the major problem.
“Miss Cash, you need to get the hell out of my property — before I call the police. And I hate to repeat myself.”
Before I could further vent my anger, she hushed me and said, “Darling, you know you shouldn't hit a pregnant woman. My timing was wrong, but don't worry—I’ll be back.
She entered her SUV and zoomed off while I kept staring at the broken presence standing beside me.
“J-Jason… p-please… forgive me,” she sobbed. But all I felt was cold resentment.
“Jason, if you don't want me around, just say so. I can't keep enduring your cruelty — it's tearing me apart.” She kept pouring out of her tender lips.
“Maybe it's best if I end this pregnancy — so we can both finally have peace. I won't let my past ruin our future.” She stuttered, with tears flowing down her flushed cheeks.
She turned to leave. A part of me wanted her close, but the questions kept screaming — why would she hide something this big, especially with my child inside her?
As she was about to exit the door, I knew if she left I would somehow feel guilty, which I quickly grabbed her wrist, slowing my breathing to calm my anger.
“You're staying — at least until the baby's born”, I said firmly, fighting back the aching pain I felt even though I didn't know Brinda, our bodies kept, electrifying which was still a mystery to me.
I drew her close. Our faces inches apart. Her lips trembled slightly parted. But I couldn't read her anymore when I suddenly heard a tiny voice ringing in my head: “Miss Cash… She didn't tell you, huh? Your precious girl's not so innocent — and she still owes me.”
I suddenly created a gap between us and redirected my face, knowing it would leave her in pain, but I felt she truly deserved it and nothing less.
“If you need anything, make yourself at home — but cross me again, and you'll regret it.” I said, staring at her as I climbed the stairs, desperate to escape the wreckage of this night.
Once I noticed I was out of Brinda's sight, I hurried to my room wondering how her past tied to Miss Cash.
I ran a hand down my face, pacing in circles, desperate to try to know what she's hiding, and what she'll do if she ever finds out about mine.
I threw myself into bed instantly, wondering my next course of action.
“I need to uncover her past — before it pulls me under too,” I thought, drowning in a sea of endless questions.
Hey guys ❤️I hope you are loving the book 🤗
Brinda's P.O.V I tiptoed into the living room, wondering who was making the noise, then halted. “That voice sounded familiar— but it couldn't be. It just can't be.” while wondering what could happen next. My breath caught. My knees almost gave way. The past wasn't supposed to have a face— but there he was.Our gaze collided, and I knew from that moment that my life was placed on a test parole. I got so lost in how good he looked after all these years that I lost track of Jason being in our midst. “You look so good and I would have sworn that the heavens are missing an angel right now,” He said cheesily and heat crawled up my neck; my fingers trembled with the urge to touch him again.“Why are you always this way Nathan— when I thought you changed only to get worse,” I replied back. And when I mean worse I mean “Gosh he's so fine as hell fine.”“Uhmm… you two know each other?” Jason asked. But before I could reply, Nathan already gave an answer. “She's one of my coolest old time
Brinda's P.O.V I paced the room, chest heavy, palms slick with sweat, desperate for a way to escape this madness. My legs still trembled from that night— cruel reminder of how he left me burning alone.I looked through the window wondering if I should make my escape but one wrong step from this window and I’d end up a broken memory on the pavement below. I kept looking around and wondering if I should trick Mrs Abigail but she has been so nice to me from day one” She’s too pure to deserve anything ugly in life.”There was only one person I could run to— but would she even want to talk to me after everything? I rushed to my phone while my fingers kept trembling if this was the only way out, “Yes It is.” my heartbeat drummed in my ears.Glancing at the door, my voice trembling, wiping tears. I held my phone tighter. Brinda: “Sofie?” (voice cracking) Sofie: Yea, what's up? And why did you call? Brinda: Sofie I know that you are really annoyed with me and I'm sincerely sorry for not
Jason P.O.V I can't get her scent out of my memories but I knew it was for the best. I wanted her, but that side of me? It's locked— buried where no one touches.I fastened my jet black tie while glaring at how perfect my biceps look on this suit which is topnotch. “Mmm… what's that amazing aroma?" I know Mrs Abigail is the best but I must definitely have a bite of what she's making right now. I glared at the time on my wristwatch while I was running late but I can't just get the thought of missing this breakfast off my mind. I hurried to the kitchen to await my answered prayers only to be lost “What are you doing in the kitchen? — Where is Miss Abigail?”Her blouse hugged every curve like it was stitched by sin itself and every time she moved, my pulse skipped— control slipping, inch by inch. “Get yourself together Jason.” She quickly went to get some groceries, She replied, swinging her hips to my direction which sent a pulse straight to me. Her glance lingered too long, her
Jason P.O.V “How can my life be shattered in front of me? — Howwww!!!.” while trying to steady my breath. “What would Mr. Felix think of me?”“What would the board think of me?”My knuckles whitened around the neck of the bottle. Red wine sloshed out, bleeding onto the marble. I caught my reflection in the window— eyes wild. A stranger stared back. “They laughed at me,” he muttered. “Me. Jason Adams. Their goddamn savior.”I took another gulp, the burn scorching my throat like punishment I deserved. The room went silent except for my heavy breath— then the door burst open. Brinda rushed into my room like it was her kingdom. “What gut I must say,” he murmured, watching as Brinda stormed in. Her slippers struck the floor, soft but loud in the silence, like tiny gunshots. “How dare you enter my room in such a manner Brinda? “Don't you have any manners at all?” with so much fury in my eyes but she only looked at me like a woman who is ready for war. “I don't care if it's your house
Brinda's P.O.V “I can't believe that I've been living with a monster,” while my teeth are gritting together. Thoughts collided in my head like crashing waves, each one louder than the last while I paced the room desperate for answers. The room smelled of expensive whiskey and danger. Everything was polished, perfect, sterile — like him. “Brinda, Brinda How did you end up in this situation which only gets worse— Urghhh.”I kept staring at my restless figure reflecting on the golden framed mirror while the rain kept tapping at the window pane which only kept me feeling unsettled. “I have to confront him whether he likes it or not because he would not put the life of me and my baby in any danger,” I kept resounding while heading to his room. My heartbeat stuttered. Every step toward his room felt like walking into a storm but I was not ready to back down from any drama. I rushed into his room with no sense of courtesy demanding an answer knowing it won't be an easy one only to beho
Brinda's P.O.V I kept rolling on the bed while my legs tangled in the sheets as I twisted again, heart pounding. Every minute that passed felt like a countdown to regret.I stretched my hand to the side table to grab my phone while looking for the music that suits my mood “The haunting melody filled the room, and I felt my chest slowly rise and fall, syncing with each gentle beat. My eyes fluttered closed — finally, peace. As I kept on singing to the lyrics, I noticed a loud bang on my door and was wondering who would want to disrupt my quiet time. Removing my EarPods, I heard Jason constantly banging on my door demanding I should open it immediately. Jason pounded the door like a toddler denied candy. His voice rose, petulant and sharp, making me yank out my EarPods with a groan. I increased to the highest volume allowing him to rest upon my silence while enjoying my moment before the fake moments came. I sang so much that I didn't even know that time had passed. I quickly went t
