I can't believe what I'm hearing — it shattered my heart into a million pieces. My inner demons were fighting to stand strong as I looked at her with so much disgust.
I fought back the tears forcing their way out, but I knew she wasn't worth them.
I tried to make sense of her betrayal, but Mrs Cash’s voice cut through as she kept hammering on about the money she was owned, which angered every fiber in my being.
Before I could speak, Mrs. Cash intervened, “Oh, it's such a pity that your fairytale comes to an end… but reality doesn't care,” she said, her grin dripping with mischief.
I kept wondering how I would react to this situation when I suddenly felt a hand trying to hold mine, and I snapped immediately. “Don't you dare touch me,” I snapped, my glare dripping with loathing, still clenching my fists to steady my anger.
My eyes kept staring at the smug, aging woman standing shamelessly at my doorstep while my fist clenched and unclenched with restrained fury.
I looked straight at Brinda, my anger blinding me, and I slammed my fist on the wall next to her in rage.
“I can't believe I just did that — this isn't me”, my mind kept repeating while staring at my unlawful action.
A piece of me wanted to apologize to her for my sudden action, but I was so consumed by her betrayal that I only wished she felt what I did.
She looked at me with so much shock, but I left her and turned my eyes to the major problem.
“Miss Cash, you need to get the hell out of my property — before I call the police. And I hate to repeat myself.”
Before I could further vent my anger, she hushed me and said, “Darling, you know you shouldn't hit a pregnant woman. My timing was wrong, but don't worry—I’ll be back.
She entered her SUV and zoomed off while I kept staring at the broken presence standing beside me.
“J-Jason… p-please… forgive me,” she sobbed. But all I felt was cold resentment.
“Jason, if you don't want me around, just say so. I can't keep enduring your cruelty — it's tearing me apart.” She kept pouring out of her tender lips.
“Maybe it's best if I end this pregnancy — so we can both finally have peace. I won't let my past ruin our future.” She stuttered, with tears flowing down her flushed cheeks.
She turned to leave. A part of me wanted her close, but the questions kept screaming — why would she hide something this big, especially with my child inside her?
As she was about to exit the door, I knew if she left I would somehow feel guilty, which I quickly grabbed her wrist, slowing my breathing to calm my anger.
“You're staying — at least until the baby's born”, I said firmly, fighting back the aching pain I felt even though I didn't know Brinda, our bodies kept, electrifying which was still a mystery to me.
I drew her close. Our faces inches apart. Her lips trembled slightly parted. But I couldn't read her anymore when I suddenly heard a tiny voice ringing in my head: “Miss Cash… She didn't tell you, huh? Your precious girl's not so innocent — and she still owes me.”
I suddenly created a gap between us and redirected my face, knowing it would leave her in pain, but I felt she truly deserved it and nothing less.
“If you need anything, make yourself at home — but cross me again, and you'll regret it.” I said, staring at her as I climbed the stairs, desperate to escape the wreckage of this night.
Once I noticed I was out of Brinda's sight, I hurried to my room wondering how her past tied to Miss Cash.
I ran a hand down my face, pacing in circles, desperate to try to know what she's hiding, and what she'll do if she ever finds out about mine.
I threw myself into bed instantly, wondering my next course of action.
“I need to uncover her past — before it pulls me under too,” I thought, drowning in a sea of endless questions.
Hey guys ❤️I hope you are loving the book 🤗
Brinda's P.O.V My mind was louder than the silence in me which kept on filling thoughts about Jason. What Sofie said and the safety of my baby. “I'm so glad I decided to stroll this moment.” while stretching my arms. That was when I saw it. A small sign nailed to a pole just few steps from where I was. Prenatal Yoga— Gentle movement. Calm mind. Healthy baby. I stared at it longer than neccesary. “Maybe it would not be such a bad idea to try it out besides it would be nice seeing new faces.”I said to myself. I quickly loosened the bun tied on my hair to feel more relaxed while heading to the address. The yoga studio was warm and quiet when I arrived. Soft music floated through the air, calming without being intrusive. The scent of lavender wrapped around me the moment I stepped inside, and for the first time in days, my shoulders relaxed slightly.I glared around to notice that I wasn't the only pregnant woman here which brought so much warmth to my soul. Women of different
Brinda's P.O.V My phone buzzed on the table. I picked it up with shaking hands. Sofie was calling. “Bri?” her soft voice filled my ear. “Hey…” I mumbled, sliding onto my bed. The house felt too quiet. “You sound tired," she said. “Rough night?”I shrugged.” Kind of. Just… thinking.”“ About leaving?” she asked quietly. “ I don't know, Sof”, I admitted.” I keep going back and forth. One minute I think I can't stay here, the next I feel I should give him another chance.”Sofie’s voice was calm. “Bri… listen. I won't tell you what to do. But… about Jason…” She hesitated. “Are you sure he's being honest?”“What do you mean?” I frowned. “I mean… Mrs. Abigail said he's worried. But Bri… sometimes people show worry, and it's not for you. It's for themselves.”I frowned deeper. “Are you saying…”“I'm saying, I don't know,” Sofie said softly. “But you know him. Think about the way he talks, how he acts when he thinks no one's watching. Something feels off.”I let out a bitter laugh. “
Brinda's P.O.V I didn't sleep that night. No matter how many times I turned on Sofie’s couch, the thoughts kept following me like shadows that refuse to stay behind. The room was so quiet that the fan hummed softly above me, counting down the hours until morning. “Travel.” I muttered. The word kept circling my mind like a promise and a threat at the same time. If l left, I wouldn't see Jason's face again. I wouldn't have to hear his voice, or pretend his words didn't cut me deeper than I ever admitted. Leaving meant distance. Safety. Silence. But leaving everything also meant leaving what built me and made me stronger. “Why did loving someone have to feel like this.” I thought. At some point, I must have drifted off because the next thing I knew, soft movement stirred me awake. Sofie glanced at me with a smile from the kitchen counter already dressed and her hair neatly bun. “You're awake.” she said. “I don't think I had any form of sleep, Sofie,” I mummered, sitting up.
Jason P.O.V I woke up that morning with a strange tightness in my chest, the kind that actually made it difficult to breathe. Even before my eyes could fully open,my phone kept aggressively vibrating on the beside table. Once. Twice. Then nonstop. I quickly reached for my phone wondering what the commotion was all about when the message popped on my screen. Emergency board meeting. Your presence is required, sir. I quickly checked the time— barely past dawn. “Something was definitely wrong.” I whispered. I sat up rubbing my eyes slowly as heavy sigh escaped my lips. “I'm sure that I'm the reason for this urgent meeting which means whatever this meeting is about means more drama to handle.” I thought. I dressed up while my thoughts drifted to Brinda before I could stop them.I glanced towards her door, half-expecting to hear her footsteps, half-hoping she would walk towards me so we could finally talk— really talk to her. No accusation. No anger. Just honesty. But the room re
Jason P.O.VThe house smelled… warm. That was the first thing that hit me the moment I stepped in— garlic, onions, something simmering slowly, the kind of smell that wrapped itself around you without giving you permission. My chest tightened before my brains could catch up. “Brinda.” I whispered. My heart lifted like it has been waiting for this moment all my life. I shut the door behind me while moving slowly like she was going to disappear if I made so much noise. “Brinda's back to me,” I thought. She has to be. I loosened my tie, my mind already racing ahead on how I would apologize. “What I would say to her firstly or should I hold her or give her space.” I mummred. I had rehearsed every word layers with regrets and fear that I wasn't proud of what I would say. I had always looked at Brinda like she was disposable but everything would suddenly chnage. I followed the scent into the kitchen while my steps slower as I got closer.“Brinda—”The name suddenly left my lips.
Brinda's P.O.V “I don't want to go home, Sof,” I said softly as we stood outside the coffee shop. I hadn't planned to say them out loud, but once they left my mouth, I knew that they were true. Home didn't feel like home anymore. It felt like a place filled with memories I couldn't breathe around. Sofie stopped walking. She turned slowly while her eyes kept of searching me like there was something there. “Then don't,” she said gently. “Come with me.”I quickly hugged her “Thank you Sof, for being my safe place.”Her apartment welcomed us with warmth. The lights were soft, the space soft but comforting, like it has been designed to help broken people like me. I slipped off my shoes and stood awkwardly beside the door while Sofie moved around like the world was at her feet. “Bri, come and sit down before you pass out.” she said lightly while pointing towards the kitchen counter. I quickly sat while watching her put the ingredients from the fridge. The sound of chopping, sizzlin
