Maya

For a second... maybe two... I just stood there, lost in the dark storm of his eyes.

All I saw was him. The man I hated. Or maybe I thought I did. The man I wanted. The man who shattered my world... and somehow still made my heart stutter just by looking at me.

I yanked my arm free and shoved at his chest. Hard.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I hissed. "Are you following me now? Trying to ruin the rest of my life too?"

His expression didn't do as much as changed. If anything, he looked... calmer than I expected. Like he'd prepared himself for this exact version of me.

"I needed to see you," he said.

I scoffed, stepping back from him. "You don't get to need anything from me Roman."

He didn't move. His eyes stayed locked on mine like he was trying to figure out where I'd gone—all the softness, the trust, the girl who once let him in.

"She's gone," I said before he could speak again. "Whatever part of me you think still cares... you killed her."

"I didn't come here to fight wi

  • His For A Night   Chapter 55

RomanShe smelled like peaches. That damn elevator scene hadn't left my head. The way her breath hitched when I stepped in. The way her spine stiffened, like she was ready for war but her eyes, those eyes, they betrayed her.Maya Hartwell still burned for me.She tried to act like she didn't. But I saw through it. Hell, I felt it.The way her lips parted, the way she barely held herself together that wasn't someone indifferent. That was someone lying to herself. And maybe I was lying too. Because the truth was, I didn't just want her close so she could watch her father's empire unravel from the inside.I wanted her close for me. For the way she still challenged me with every word. For the fire she gave even when she was losing ground. And maybe... because the chaos in her eyes made me forget the ones in mine. But she was also a distraction. One I couldn't afford.I could play it cool. I could stay sharp with her sitting right across from me. But her?She couldn't fake it well enough.

  • His For A Night   Chapter 54

MayaI adjusted the collar of my blouse, finger-combing my hair. "Tell me again why you didn't quit the second he told you you'd be working closely with Roman?" Cassie's voice rang through the speaker. "And don't you think your Prince Charming wants you back?""I don't know," I muttered, checking my mascara for smudges. "Because I'm cursed? Or because my father is holding the engagement over my head like a goddamn guillotine?""You didn't answer my question.""I'm still figuring that out."I could practically hear her eye roll. "Well, for what it's worth, if I ever get to meet this Roman guy, I'm swinging first.""Swinging what, exactly?""A punch, Maya. A punch."I laughed under my breath. "You've never punched anyone in your life.""There's a first time for everything.""Okay, before you punch him make sure you have prepare your fist well. And I will talk to you later. I'm getting back to the office." I ended the call before she could say more. Roman's glass office came into view

  • His For A Night   Chapter 53

MayaI came to work early slid into my seat quietly, trying to breathe past the tight feeling in my chest. I turned on the monitor and pretended to scroll through emails, but my gaze kept betraying me.It went to him. Roman.Through the glass wall of his office, I could see him. Leaning against his desk, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a phone to his ear, his brows drawn. His voice was low, muffled by the glass, but the intensity in his posture said more than words ever could. I hated that I noticed that. I hated that I cared enough to notice at all.I hadn't spoken to him since our last interaction. The folder he tossed me was still sitting unopened in the drawer beneath my desk. Childish? Maybe. But I hadn't decided how to feel about any of this yet—him being here, working under my father's name, walking around like this wasn't insane.Because it was. It was insane. Why was he even here? Who sent him? What was he planning? And more importantly—why did a tiny part of me fee

  • His For A Night   Chapter 52

RomanI leaned back against the edge of the desk now, hands in my pockets, my gaze drawn to the glass wall that gave a perfect view of the office floor. And her.Maya was seated at her desk, pretending to scroll through something on her screen, but I could see the flicker in her eyes every few seconds stealing glances toward my office like she thought I wouldn't notice. Her expression was exactly what I expected. Confused. Distrustful. A little stunned.Good. Let her wonder.Let her keep asking herself how I ended up here, at her father's company. She know her father had dealings with men who burned the world for sport. Didn't know I had my own reasons for being here. But soon, the cracks would start to show. And she would have to choose: Her father's legacy or the truth. She looked up again, catching me watching her this time. For a second, she didn't look away. Her lips parted slightly just enough for a breath to escape. Then she snapped her eyes back to her screen, and adjusted h

  • His For A Night   Chapter 51

MayaI kept my eyes fixed on the presentation folder in front of me. Deliberately.Avoiding looking up. Avoiding him.Damian sat to my left, flipping through slides on the screen, talking with far more energy than usual. He was confident on most days... but not today. Not with Roman in the room. Roman hadn't said much. But his silence was loud.He sat across from us with a stony face one hand resting over the other as he listened with chilling stillness. He wasn't the man I remembered. He wasn't the man who kissed me like he needed to breathe me in. He wasn't the man who declared that he wouldn't let me marry Damian.Damian cleared his throat and tried to smile. "We're projecting a steady incline in revenue over the next quarter. The diversification plan will ensure we sustain market share while the investment continues to scale."Roman's dark eyes never left the screen, but his fingers tapped once slowly against the table. And then, without warning, he spoke. "Your numbers are inflat

  • His For A Night   Chapter 50

MayaI should've known the elevator ride up would feel more like being dragged into a lion's den.The halls of Hartwell Enterprises were all glass, marble, and people who walked like they were allergic to smiling. Cold professionalism in expensive suits. And then there was me—Alexander Hartwell's rebellious daughter, freshly returned from her grand disappearing act.The receptionist greeted me with a too-sweet smile that didn't touch her eyes.Irritation spiked the second I walked into the department I'd been assigned to. My legs came into a halt when I came face to face with Damian.Leaning casually on the edge of a desk, smirking like the smug bastard he was. His sleeves were rolled, his tie loosened like he was ready for business or more likely, to play pretend.I didn't say a word. I just walked right past him."Aren't you going to greet your boss?" he said behind me, voice low and dripping with smug satisfaction.I stopped and turned around slowly."Last time I checked," I said c
